SAQC STARTS ITS NEW YEAR WITH THE TECHNICAL MEETING TITLED ERP : THE WAY FORWARD
The presentation also highlighted the implementation methodology along with different functionalities of ERP systems. The consultants Mr. Peter and Philip provided a brief history of the evolution of ERP Systems. The meeting started at 8:30 pm and ended at 11:30 pm followed by a light dinner. The closing of the meeting took place with the presentation ceremony whereby SAQC (WR) Director, Dr. Ayed T. Al-Amri presented a plaque of appreciation to both the speakers and an appreciation plaque was also given to Institute of Public Administration for hosting the event. Special thanks goes to our Officer Mohammed Masri for coordinating the event and HIDADA Ltd. for providing the consultants to share their thoughts with SAQC. HIDADA is a leading Steel Fabricating company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia belonging to XENEL Group of Industries.

SAQC (WR) started its activities for the year 20022003 by organizing the 1st Technical Meeting on 30 September, 2002 titled ERP : The Way Forward being presented by consultants Mr. Peter Polet and Philip Tapper of HaBit Consulting. The subject was vibrant and so were the speakers. The meeting was attended by 65 members and non-members. The meeting focused on the global changes and the tools needed to cope up with them. The presentation gave an in-depth overview of what it takes to implement an ERP system such as SAP.

PLANT TOUR CARRIED OUT AT NASHAR TRADING COMPANY


The first Plant Tour of this Year from SAQC (WR) was carried out at Nashar Trading Company. The Plant tour was organized on 23rd October, 2002 from 09:30 am through 01:00 pm. Six SAQC Members joined the Plant Tour. The Factory Manager, Mr. Omar Kably started the plant tour by providing a brief about Nashar well equipped with latest machinery and tools. The Factory implements strict Quality Control practices and is certified to ISO 9002 Standards. An open Question and Answer session followed the factory visit. Mr. Omar Kably received the appreciation Plaque on behalf of Mr. Mahmoud Nashar from Dr. Ayed T. Al-Amri. Omar Kably is also an Executive Officer in Saudi Arabian Quality Council Board.

2ND SAQC TECHNICAL MEETING WITH PROFESSOR MOHAMMED ZAIRI IN SGH
Encouraged by the popular demand from the SAQC Members, we brought once again Prof. Mohammed Zairi for the SAQC Technical Meeting. The participation was over-whelming and the subject mind-blowing. Prof. M. Zairi in his usual spirit delivered his excellent presentation. The presentation focused on the shape of things to come and how to lead in a Knowledge-Based Economy. The meeting was conducted in Saudi German Hospital on 28 October, 2002. The attendees got an overview of the approach and concept that enables the creation of Knowledge-Based work environments and a leadership approach that excels at managing intellectual capital which could become a blue print for the developing leaders in the Arab World.

SAQC Celebrates QUALITY MONTH QUALITY MONTH


As a part of our objectives to share knowledge and our plan to celebrate October as a Quality Month, the SAQC Team consisting of Dr. Ayed Al-Amri and Bander AlQahtani presented an overview of Business Process Reengineering An approach for Quality Improvement in the Health Care Week 2002, of Saudi German Hospitals Group (SGHG). The presentation was well received by a jam- packed auditorium of SGHG counting almost 200 attendees. The program was organized by BPR Team at the SGHG on 17 October, 2002 from 09:00 thru 13:00 hrs. It started with recitation of Holy Quran by Mohamed Abdullah followed by a welcome speech by COO Dr. Mohammed Fahim Mousa. SAQC invites other organizations to utilize the resources in SAQC to their benefit and to the benefit of our community. Well Done SGHG !!!!

QUALIT Y IN EDUCATIONSECTOR
AWARENESS SEMINARS IN JEDDAH, RIYADH, & TAIF ORGANIZED DURING OCTOBER, 2002
Ministry of Education & Intl Islamic Relief Organization in Coordination with Saudi Arabian Quality Council (WR) organized three different Awareness Seminars in Jeddah on the 1st October, Taif on the 9th October, & in Riyadh on the 16th October, 2002. These seminars were organized under the Teachers Recognition Program. Dr. Ayed Al-Amri gave the opening speech by briefing the progress made in the field of quality in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Ayed also gave a brief on the initiatives taken by the Saudi Arabian Quality Council to promote Quality in the different aspects of our lives. He also provided details of the establishment of the King Abdulaziz Quality Award. Accompanying him was Dr. Hani Al-Amri who gave in-depth awareness seminars in Jeddah, Riyadh and Taif about the progress made in Quality in Education sector. There was an overwhelming attendance from school and colleges from different parts of Saudi Arabia. An estimated 1500 teachers attended these events and Dr. Hani Al-Amri learned about the latest quality tools & techniques which can be utilized in the education sector to enhance the quality of education provided in our schools and colleges. Dr. Maisarah Taher and Mr. Yahya Bin Abdullah Al-Jefri were among other prominent speakers who contributed to the success of these events, which were indeed milestones in the achievements of SAQC (WR)
