A Study of Mental Health in Relation to Public Sector Working Women

The aim of present study was to study the mental health in relation to private & public sector working women. A 2x2x2 Factorial design is utilized with private and public sector from mehsana district. Mental health analysis questionnaire developed by Dr. Harkant Badami & Charulata Badami questionnaire of mental health and personal data sheet were used for the collection of the data. Analysis of data was done using Anova. The result shows that women working in public sectors have far better mental health. The marital status of women does not show significant difference in all areas of mental health. The marital status women working in sectors do not play significant role in inter of all areas of mental health. * Keywords Mental Health Public sector Working women

Introduction: Mental Health of Public & Private Sector Working Women is an interesting research problem. The Working women of Private &public Sector differ due to their environment of Management, Pay, other facilities & rules and regulations. Previous studies Dhar(1977,1997) Girish Patel (1981) Hourani & Yean (1990) & Kobasa(1979)also stresses the importance of research problem of private & public sector working women's mental health. The Women have dual role as a house wife and working women (Pillai & Sen, 1999) So they have role conflict also (Ravi, 1976) So it will be researchable problem that are there any differences among private sector & public sector working women as related to mental health. Objectives: 1. To measure mental health of Private & Public sector working women. 2. To measure mental health of Unmarried & Married working women of private & public sector. 3. To measure mental health of women working in physical & mental work. Hypotheses: 1. There is no difference between mental health of Private & Public sector working women. 2. There is no difference in mental health of married and unmarried private & public sector working women. 3. There is no difference in mental health of Private & Public women working in physical & mental work. Sample: Sample was selected of 400 working women of private & public sector from Mehsana District. Results and Discussion: The F values showing main effects and interaction effects of all the independent variables have been presented in table No. A.See Table 1 It can seen from the table that the types of sectors where the women work (A) played a significant role in mental health, the F ratio being significant for areas viz close relationship inter personal relationship, participation in community, satisfying work and creation, adequate outlook and goals, immature behaviour, instable behaviour, feeling of inadequacy, physical defects and nervous symptoms. It is usually striking that marital states (B) of working women are not shown significant role in areas viz close relationship inter personal relationship, participation in community, satisfying work and creation, adequate outlook and goals, immature behaviour, instable behaviour, feeling of inadequacy, physical defects and nervous symptoms.Comparatively according to mean difference the women working in public sectors have far better mental health than the working women working in public sectors in all areas. The inter action of type of sectors and marital states has significantly influenced the areas of close relationship inter personal relationship, physical defects and nervous symptoms. The type of sectors and marital states of the working women not interacted significantly to affect the mental health areas of participation in community, satisfying work and creation, adequate outlook and goals, immature behaviour, instable behaviour and feeling of inadequacy. On the basis of these result it may be concluded that the type of sectors where the women work, there place of living and marital status do affect their

Here also it was found only little difference but it was not up to the significant level, except close relationship inter personal relationship, physical defects and nervous symptoms. Conclusion: 1. The women working in public sectors have far better mental health than the working women working in public sectors in all areas. 2. The marital states of working women do not show significant difference in all areas of mental health. 3. The marital states women working in sectors do not play significant role in inter action of all areas of mental health.
