Napaul Publishers, Inc. HELP NEEDED- Three hundred athletes will make their way to Hudson Crossing Park, located at Lock 5 off Route 4 in Schuylerville for the third annual Hudson Crossing Triathlon on Sunday, June 10th, between 8am and 10:30am. The sprint-distance triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim in the canal at Lock C-5, a 12-mile bike ride along scenic country roads in Northumberland, and a 5k run in Schuylerville. Organizers are seeking enthusiastic volunteers who would like to cheer athletes, hand out water, direct traffic, kayak, offer motorcycle support, lifeguard or other roles. The race starts at 8 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 10:30 a.m. All volunteers receive an event shirt and can sign up at www.hudsoncrossingtri.com/volunteer. Certain roads will be closed and detours in place to enable motorists to travel around the race course while the race is in progress. Information about traffic patterns is available on www.hudsoncrossingtri.com. Hudson Crossing Triathlon serves to highlight Hudson Crossing Park and brings additional visibility to the Champlain Canal, Village of Schuylerville and the Towns of Northumberland and Saratoga. For more information or questions about volunteering, please contact Chris Bowcutt at 518 290-0457 or cbow142@yahoo.com.
The Town of Saratoga is applying for grant funds to continue its Mobile Home Replacement
and Housing Rehabilitation Programs. All homeowners in the Town of Saratoga, Village of Schuylerville and Village of Victory are strongly encouraged to submit an application to secure a position on the 2013 waiting list for these programs. For more information on the Mobile Home Replacement and Housing Rehabilitation Programs please call 695-3344, or visit the www.marvinandcompany.com to download an application. Applications for the 2013 Programs are also available at the Marvin & Company office, 12 Spring Street, Suite 103 in Schuylerville. The Whipple City Festival will be awarding the original art of a published Close To Home cartoon to the top three contingents or floats in the Whipple City Parade on June 15. The artwork is provided by Close To Home syndicated artist John McPherson, who will also lead the parade as the Grand Marshal. This years parade theme is The Sunday Comics. The judges for the parade will be three Greenwich students, all outstanding in their art classes, who share a lifelong love of comics and cartooning. Grady Dixson, a senior, works part-time at the Comic Depot in Wilton Mall, which helps fund his collection of original comic art. Dixson said when he was younger, he had dreamed of being a cartoonist. Now he has his sights set on attending film school and becoming a screenwriter. A character himself, Dixson said the bulk of his drawing is done during classes as doodles on notebook paper. Pete Hayes, a junior, reads the comics in the newspaper every day, and has done so for as long as he can remember. His favorite comic reads are the mainstream superheroes. A serious young man, Hayes works part-time at Cutie Pharmacare in Greenwich and hopes to focus on math and science in his higher education. Keith Pratt, in 8th grade, has a hefty book on his desk at home (a gift from his older brother) that shows step-by-step how to draw a slew of well-known comic characters. His favorites are Marvel characters, such as the Avengers. He is currently on a mission himself to collect all the Dr. Pepper soda cans that host Avenger images. For years, his parents bought the Sunday newspaper for Keith, as he is the biggest consumer of not only comics, but of news in his family. The judges will view the parade from their table set up in front of the YMCA on Main Street. The table will be decorated with original artwork by the three boys. Their top pick in three categories (most comical, most super heroic, and most animated) will get a signed Close To Home cartoon original. Marchers in the parade will line up in the Kmart parking lot at 5:30 pm on Friday, June 15. Step-off will begin at 6 pm. The winners will be announced at the gazebo in Mowry Park immediately following the parade. John McPherson will also be signing Close To Home books in the park. For more information about the Whipple City Festival and Parade, contact the Greater Greenwich Chamber of Commerce at 692-7979, or visit www.greenwichchamber.org.

EXHIBIT- Two hundred years ago this summer President James Madison signed a Declaration of War against Great Britain on June 18, 1812. The three year War of 1812 became known by some as Americas Second War of Independence. At the Washington County Historical Society the current exhibition, Hostilities in the Champlain Valley, 1812 to 1814, focuses on what happened in Washington County and along the shores of Lake Champlain in New York State and in Vermont. Through narratives and commentary by regional historians and eye-witness accounts, through photos of re-enactors, and artifacts found from the period, the issues, preparations for war, and military encounters are sorted out and described. On special loan from the Skenesborough Museum in Whitehall a large model of the 17- gun schooner Ticonderoga represents the remnant hulk still exhibited canal-side in Whitehall. Three cannonballs recovered from muddy waters nearby Whitehall are also on display from the museum. Hand-forged iron work, a saber, powder horn and more have been loaned by others. The exhibit will remain in place through mid-November in the Societys reading room at 169 Broadway, Fort Edward. For further information call 518-747-7901.

www.addigest.com POSTER & T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST- The Rensselaer County Agricultural and Horticultural Society, otherwise known as the Schaghticoke Fair, is extremely excited to announce an opportunity to high school students, currently enrolled in grades 9-12, throughout Rensselaer County, to compete in a Poster Design Contest and/or a T-Shirt Design Contest announcing our 2012 fair-wide theme Happy Feet. Happy Feet is a concept that was introduced by two of our very own building superintendents here at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds. They have used the concept of a theme the past few years in the Family Living Center to increase fair entries, add an element of creativity to a standard entry or exhibit and to drive fairgoers into their building. We are excited to bring this idea fair-wide and create an environment that is not only fun for kids but adults as well. We will be introducing Happy Feet into our buildings, exhibits, the grandstand, our entertainment in the park and in our marketing, advertising and promotions of the 2012 Schaghticoke Fair. Students who are interested in coming up with a Happy Feet design for the fair can contact their schools art teacher or principal or can call the Schaghticoke Fair for a complete listing of all the elements that are to be included in the design(s). All entries must be submitted by June 15 to your art teacher at school. Winners of each design contest will be notified as their work will be used in the marketing, advertising and promotions of the 2012 Schaghticoke Fair, including but not limited to the cover of the fair brochure, t-shirts, posters, the fairs new website (www.schaghtiockefair.org) and Facebook page. A certificate of achievement will be presented to the winners on stage in the park at the fair on a selected day. In addition, all students who enter the design contests will receive a free one day pass to the fair and will be able to view their artwork on display in the Family Living Center. For more information on how to enter a design, please call Mary at the Schaghticoke Fair office, 753-4411, x13. CHAPMAN HISTORICAL MUSEUM TO EXHIBIT S.R. STODDARDS NATURAL VIEWS IN SUMMER 2012 Long considered beautiful photographs of the Adirondack landscape, Seneca Ray Stoddards views also serve well as documents of the plants that inhabited the region in the 19th century. The Chapman Historical Museums summer exhibit, S.R. Stoddards Natural Views, which will run f through September 2, will feature fifty enlarged photographs of different Adirondack settings lake shores, marshes, meadows, riverbanks and mountainsides. Highlighted in modern color images will be examples of the plants discovered in Stoddards photographs from small flowers to shrubs and trees. NYC BUS TRIP- The Pennies for Peyton Relay for Life team is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City, June 2. The day will be on your own in the big city. Cost is $43. Pickup will be at Wilton Mall. All profits will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. For more information, contact Rose Bain at krbain@roadrunner.com, or 669-3402.

No Buying Pressure... Ask your neighbors! Alexander Dennis Centofranchi, son of Christine and Dennis Centofranchi of Salem graduated from Saint Michaels College with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude degree in Engineering at the colleges 105th commencement exercises held on the college campus May 14th. Commencement speaker, MTV media pioneer and humanitarian, Tom Freston, a member of the Saint Michaels graduate class of 1967, told the graduates hard work is key to your future. My advice, he said, is really to look for a career in fields that are on the ascent-social innoviation-and bring an old-fashioned work ethic to them. Some 478 students received bachelors degrees and another 65 received masters degrees at the commencement exercises held in the SMC Ross Sports Center. Some 4000 people including graduates and their families and friends, and faculty and staff of the college, located in Burlington, Vermont, heard excellent speeches from two students, from the college president, the chairman of the board, and from main speaker Tom Freston.

To qualify for USDA Rural Developments Direct Loan Program, applicants must have a household income of less than 80 percent of the county median, have an acceptable credit history and have sufficient income to make the mortgage payment. The home purchased must be modest, in good repair, (or able to be repaired with loan funds) and located in an eligible rural area. Interested persons can distinguish if their area is considered rural by visiting http://eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov/eligibility/. Section 502 Guaranteed Loans are available to moderate income families and individuals. Applicants apply to approved lenders and USDA Rural Development issues loan note guarantees to participating lenders. These loans are made for 30 years at a fixed interest rate. The lender may loan up to 100% of the appraised value, and closing costs and repairs can often be included in the loan. A down payment and private mortgage insurance is not required, but a 2% one time guarantee fee is required at closing. USDA Rural Developments mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. Rural Development provides equity and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development and critical community and technology infrastructure. For additional information regarding USDA Rural Development programs contact the Greenwich USDA Service Center at (518) 6929940, Ext. 4 or visit http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/ny.

BEGINNING FARMER GROUP- The second Beginning Farmer Learning Group meeting will be held in Washington County on Thursday, June 14 starting at 7:30 P.M. This meeting is being hosted by Chris Lincoln and Tammara Van Ryn. The farm is located at 99 County Route 52 Greenwich, NY 12834. Chris and Tammara use a variety of direct market channels to sell the products they grow. Currently they are using a combination of farmers markets and selling to local restaurants as their main marketing channels. They have also used some market channels and have chosen to stop using them for a variety of reasons. This is your opportunity to come and listen and participate in a discussion on how to develop direct market channels for your farm. The purpose of the Beginning Farmer Learning Group is to provide an opportunity for those that have been farming less than 10 years to come together and network and learn from each other. The group will also travel and visit more experienced farmers in the area to learn from them as well. There is no cost to attend this meeting, but registration is suggested. Please contact Gale Kohler at 765-3500 or at gek4@cornell.edu. For more information about the learning group, contact Steve Hadcock at 518-380-1497 or by Email at seh11@cornell.edu.
