COVERED BOOK OF MORMON INSTRUCTIONS

MATERIALS NEEDED
Pocket-sized book of mormon (sold at LDS Distribution Ctr.) 3 Neo-magnets (I get mine online from K& J Magnetics) (Also sold at Walmart or craft stores in smaller quantities) 5 of Galvanized plumbers tape (3/4 wide)- hardware store Fabric (7 tall x 18 wide) 800 Clear-Fuse Pellon (5 x 18) - or Wonder Under 18 of accent ribbon (I used 3/4 wide grosgrain) 10 of book mark ribbon (I use 1/4 wide grosgrain) 1 Accent Brad (got mine from Hobby Lobby) Fabric Glue ( I use Tacky Glue)

OTHER ITEMS NEEDED


Iron 1 Foam Brush Rotary Cutter or good sewing scissors Glue Gun

OPTIONAL PREP
If you are using partially see-thru fabrics or fabrics with white in them, you may want to do this step... Spray paint outside of Book of Mormon with White Spray Paint or Primer (Be sure to protect sides of pages from overspray.)

MAGNETS
Mark 3 dots for magnets using pink template and marker. Hot glue magnets on. Press down quickly and firmly to squeeze out excess glue.

BOOK MARK
Hot glue 1 of black book mark ribbon to spine of book. Press down firmly.

FOLD & TRIM


Fold fabric tightly around white template. (both sides) Iron from the outside in Trim off any long frayed edges Remove template and iron flat

GLUE
Open flaps (use 3 popsicle sticks to hold open) 2 Squeeze thin strip of glue onto fabric. (about 1/ from fold lines) Keeping glue away from fold lines, smooth off excess with foam brush. Fold and smooth out any wrinkles. Lay white template over to test for parallel lines.

PELLON
Place pellon (rough side down) onto wrong side of fabric. Iron slowly from 1 end to the other within about 10 seconds. (If pellon shrivels up, your going too slow) Peel off plastic backing (Be sure dot pattern stays on fabric)

TRIM
Lay fabric on rotary cutting mat with right sides facing up. Line up with grid. Trim minimal amount of fabric off right side, making a clean edge to work with.

COVER
With wrong side up, insert fabric in front-inside-cover of book. Close book. Fold fabric snugly around front-cover of book Iron onto book pressing firmly for 8-10 seconds. (Dont iron directly over magnets)

Iron around Magnets

SPINE
Fold snugly over spine. Iron for 8-10 seconds. (Set against a board if you desire)

TRIM
With front of book facing up, line up yellow template against right side of book. Using a pencil, mark a cut line on right end of fabric. Trim with rotary cutter.

METAL STRIP

Line up blue template against right side of book. Squeeze thin line of glue. With a scrap paper underneath, smooth with brush all the way to top and bottom edges of fabric. Insert metal strip. Add more glue (thin!) Smooth with brush. Remove blue template.

BACK COVER

Open back cover of book. Fold fabric over metal piece & into the inside back cover. Flip book front-facing down. Iron back cover for 8-10 sec. Open and iron again for 8-10 seconds.

FOLDS

Iron a crease on both sides of magnetic strip.

RIBBON

Line up green template against inside front cover of book. With a foam brush, paint glue on ribbon. (use magazine scrap paper) Place right above template. Repeat until you get to magnetic strip.

ACCENT BRAD

Mark a spot on ribbon for accent brad. Punch brad through ribbon. Open prongs parallel to ribbon. Use hot glue gun to secure between fabric and ribbon. Using a foam brush, continue gluing ribbon to book. Trim off excess ribbon before gluing back inside cover.

OPTIONAL BOOKMARK FLOWER

Choose an accent paper. Fold over an edge large enough for a craft punch to cover. Turn craft punch upside-down so you can see your paper. Line up puncher so that it doesnt cut off the fold line. Wrap paper around book mark ribbon and glue with glue stick Add a sticker to one side for easily identifying which side of the page you are on.
