INTORDUCTION Cybercrime is criminal activity done using computers and the Internet. This includes anything from downloading illegal music files to stealing millions of dollars from online bank accounts. Cybercrime also includes non-monetary offenses, such as creating and distributing viruses on other computers or posting confidential business information on the Internet.(1) The most prominent form of cybercrime is identity theft, in which criminals use the Internet to steal personal information from other users. Two of the most common ways this is done is through phishing and pharming. Both of these methods lure users to fake websites (that appear to be legitimate), where they are asked to enter personal information. This includes login information, such as usernames and passwords, phone numbers, addresses, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and other information criminals can use to "steal" another person's identity. For this reason, it is smart to always check the URL or Web address of a site to make sure it is legitimate before entering your personal information.

In 2004 there has been an increase in

Almost everyday, one hundred thousand barriers were broken by known viruses and the number of new viruses increased by more than 50 percent since 2003 . (4)

A survey has been conducted by Abdullah Alshalan (Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Mississippi State University)(4), and found that 61.2 % of the respondents have received a computer virus over the Internet 7.6 of the sample has been a victim of computer-related fraud 10.4% of the respondents know someone who has been a victim of cyber-crime61.2 % of the respondents have received a computer virus over the Internet.(4)

Males are more likely than females to become victims of cyber-crime. Whites are more likely to be victims of cybercrime than blacks. The more frequently people use the Internet, the more likely they will become victims of cybercrime. People who stay longer on the Internet tend to have a greater risk of becoming victims of cybercrime. The more people divulge their credit or debit card number, the more they are at risk of becoming victims of cyber-crime. The more people divulge their id or personal information, the more they are at risk of becoming victims of cybercrime. The effects of age, education, and children with access to the Internet on cyber-crime victimization are wiped out because of the inclusion of money-target and id-target (routine activity variables). Neither income nor type of residence have they any effects on cyber-crime victimization.(4)

Cybercrime has caused many negative effects to its victims. Thus, strict punishment must be taken against cybercriminal. The governments as well as NGOs and other organizations should cooperate in order to prevent the cybercrimes from spreading in the country. This include giving awareness campaign to the citizen about the dangers of cybercrimes. Thus, this can create a cybercrime free country.
