1.0 GENERAL
1.1 Description of the Structure
The proposed RCC TANK structure is at Butibori, Nagpur. This Structure consists of 2 water tanks one over
another for purpose pressure break. The height of structure is 10 m below ground and 16.7 m above ground with
its inside diameter of tanks are 6.5 m.
1.2 Scope of the Calculation Report
The structures are analyzed using STAAD Pro and designed by hand calculations based on the provisions of IS
codes. The tank is analyzed for seismic / dynamic forces for response Spectrum method (calculated manually).The
concrete framed structure as shown in the following STAAD model has been subject to dead load, live loads,
water loads, wind load & seismic forces. Several load combinations as detailed below have been made in STAAD
for member design. The design calculations are taken for M30 grade of concrete and Fe 500 steel grade by
working stress design method.

Dead Load
Dead loads shall consist of self weight and other permanent loads which are supported by the structure.
3.1.2
Live load
As per specification it is recommended to take 2 kN/m as live load on slab for design.
3.1.3
Seismic load
Load due to seismic: The earthquake forces are applied by using staad definition.
The parameters defined are,
Zone=III,
Z=0.16,
R=5,
I=1.75.
3.1.4
Wind load
Location = Nagpur
Basic Wind Speed (Vb) = 44 (As per code)
Design Wind Speed (Vz) = K1 x K2 x K3 x Vb
Where,
K1 = 1.07 (Risk coefficient, see cl. No. 5.3.1, Table-1)
K2 = 1.12 (Terrain, height & structure size factor)
K3 = 1 (Topography factor)
Vz = 52.73 KN/m2
Design Wind Pressure (Pz) = 0.6 x Vz x Vz
Pz = 1668.24643 N/m2
Pz = 1.67 KN/m2

Load calculations:
Maximum pressure is taken for design calculations. For pressure calculations self weight of footing,
load coming from soil above and axial load of structure are taken
Pmax
Safe bearing capacity of soil = 400 kN/m2 > Pmax.
Load per running meter on footing,
= 385 x 2.7 = 1039.5 1050 kN/m
Max. Bending moment & twisting moments are as follows
For calculating the moments, coefficients are taken from book RCC designs- B.C. Punmia, table no.
