KING SAUD UNIVERSITY RIYADH COMMUNITY COLLEGE AMS DEPARTMENT NURSING SECTION COURSE SYLLABUS FOR ANATOMY &

PHYSIOLOGY FOR NURSING & BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS SAHAR 101 FIRST SEMESTER 1428 1429 INSTRUCTOR: MURAD SAWALHA, MSN, RN

Course Title: Anatomy & Physiology Course Identity Code: SAHAR 101 Credit Hours: 4 credit Time & Date of Course: Class No. (381) 8-10 Day 1, 2 Class No. (348) 10-12 Day 2, 4 Teaching level: third level Instructor Name: Murad Adnan Sawalha, M.Sc. in clinical nursing Course Description: The Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology course will study the shape, structure, and function of the human body and its parts. Content includes: basic anatomy and directional terminology, structure and function of body systems and special senses, fundamental concepts and principles of body organization, histology, and hematology. Purpose: The Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology course provides a knowledge base that is essential to students interested in various health-related fields. Because this knowledge base is constantly increasing in volume and complexity, a high school course can offer students the opportunity to be better prepared for educational routes beyond high school. This course will provide students with an appreciation of the design, balance and capability of the human body. Course Length & Credits: 1 semester, 4 credit Course Enduring Learnings: The student will understand that: Anatomy describes the form and organization of anatomical parts, while physiology considers the function of anatomical parts. The structure or anatomy of body parts and organs determines what they are able to do and how they can function. Characteristics of life are traits all organisms share. The body is composed of parts with different levels of organization. The body systems are dependent on each other to survive and operate the human body. Lifestyle choices effect the functioning of the systems of our body. Terms with precise meaning helps investigators communicate effectively. Textbook: Anatomy & Physiology, Fifth Edition (Thibodeah & patton 1999) Strategies: Lecture Power Point Overheads Models Individual Work Discussion

Evaluation and Assessment: Written Exams, group & Self Evaluations, class Participation - In course assessment: 40 % a. First midterm 15% at the 7th week b. Second midterm 15 % at the 12th week C. Attendance & semester works 10% - Final Examination: 60 % Total: 100 % Classroom policy: The classroom will function best when its members treat each other with fairness, honesty, respect and trust. Remember the three Rs: Respect yourself Respect others Responsibility for your actions
