Information for awards commencing in 2013 Development Awards in Indonesia


Australias international development assistance in Indonesia aims to work in partnership with the Government of Indonesia (GOI) to achieve a prosperous, democratic and safe Indonesia through the provision of post-graduate scholarships. Development Awards are administered by AusAID and aligned with Australias development assistance in Indonesia, targeting human resource gaps in identified priority sectors. They aim to provide successful applicants with the skills and knowledge to drive change and influence economic and social development. AusAID offers Development Awards on the basis of merit, transparency and equal access. We strongly encourage applications from women, people with disability, and people from AusAIDs geographic focus areasPapua, West Papua, NTB, NTT and ACEH.

Type and Level of Awards


Australian Development Scholarships These are long term development scholarships providing people with the opportunity to obtain tertiary qualifications at an Australian tertiary institution. In the 201213 Australian Development Scholarship application round, a range of awards will be offered for commencement in 2013/2014 with the following allocation:

Priority Sectors
The priority areas of study for Australian Development Awards in Indonesia are: Sustainable Growth and Economic Management Democracy Justice and Good Governance Investing in People Safety and Peace. Together the governments of Australia and Indonesia regularly review these sectors and adjust the emphasis of the program. applicants from the public sector category Thirsty three per cent of awards will be offered to applicants from the open category Up to 50 per cent of awards overall will be offered to applicants from the Targeted Category Up to 30 per cent of awards will be offered to applicants from Geographic Focus Areas Eighty five per cent of awards will be offered at Masters level and up to 15 per cent of all awards will be offered at PhD level An equal number of awards will be offered to males and females.

Australian Leadership Award Scholarships Up to 200 of the most outstanding Australian Development Scholarship applicants across the globe will be offered an Australian Leadership Award in addition to ADS. These extra entitlements will include a Leadership for Development Program designed to enhance leadership knowledge and skills. Recipients will be brought together with other Australian Leadership Awardees

for leadership training, development discussions and the chance to build valuable networks. Selections will be based on the applicants professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential impact on development challenges in their country or region.

Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all of the eligibility requirements detailed in the Scholarships Handbook, available at: http://www.ausaid.gov.au/scholar/publications.cfm You must also meet the following specific requirements for Indonesia: be applying for courses that fall within the areas of development priority (see Priority Sectors above) have a Grade Point Average of at least 2.9 or 2.75 for applicants from AusAID Geographic Focus Areas and for applicants from the Targeted Category have a Grade Point Average of at least 2.75 for awardees with a disability as declared on the Australian Development Scholarship application form (for candidates with a Grade Point Average lower than 2.75, appropriate documented work/life experiences from exceptional candidates may be considered as equivalency, on a case by case basis) have an English language proficiency of at least 5.0 in IELTS (or 500 in paper-based TOEFL or 61 internet based TOEFL). The IELTS or TOEFL result must be current (a test result obtained in 2010 or 2011 will be considered current). No other English language test (including TOEFL prediction test) results will be accepted.

Applications or supporting documents received after this date will not be considered.

The Application Process


Applications must be submitted by hardcopy. Three copies of this form and of all attached documents must be received by 17 August 2012 at the Australian Awards Office. documents with their application to meet the specific requirements for Indonesia: copies of birth certificate or equivalent proof of citizenship i.e. KTP or your passport personal information pages current Curriculum Vitae official (certified* ) post-secondary and tertiary certificates/degrees official (certified* ) post-secondary and tertiary transcripts of results current (original) IELTS or TOEFL English language test results (a test result obtained in 2011 or 2012 will be considered current).The TOEFL prediction test is NOT accepted. Preparatory Training
Prior to departure to Australia, awardees are required to undertake a pre-departure training course. The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course consists of up to nine months full-time English language and academic preparation in Indonesia. Awardees must achieve satisfactory results in the EAP course in order to be placed in an Australian university.

The Selection Process


The selection process will include an interview and take into account the principles of merit and equity and will be carried out jointly on behalf of the Australian and Indonesian Governments by an independent team of Indonesian officials and academics working in
