1. (a) Explain in detail about the factors to be considered in the design of pavements. (b) Dierentiate between exible and rigid pavements. [10+10]

2. (a) Explain about the stresses in exible pavement and also discuss whether they are dierent from those in rigid pavements. (b) What are the advantages of having dierent layers in a pavement? Explain. [10+10] 3. Explain the Burmisters layered system theory for a exible pavement design. Also comparre this method with that of Boussisnesqs theory. [20] 4. (a) Explain about the radius of relative stiness and equivalent radius of resisting section used in a rigid pavement design. (b) Compute the radius of relative stiness and the equivalent radius of resisting section for a 20 cm thick CC pavement for the following data: Modulus of Elasticity = 210000 kg/cm2 Poissons ratio = 0.13 Modulus of subgrade reaction = 4.0kg/cm2 Radius of contact area = 15 cm. [20] 5. (a) Explain about warping stresses and frictional stresses in rigid pavements. (b) What are the three critical stresses in rigid pavement as per westergaards analysis? Explain.
