Computer - a system of many parts working together. It is a machine that can be programmed to accept data (input) process it into useful information (output) and store it (in a secondary storage device) for safekeeping or reuse. Monitor - A monitor displays information in visual form, using text and graphics. The portion of the monitor that displays the information is called the screen. Types of computer monitors CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Monitor - This is the most inexpensive monitor in the market today. It sports quite a large case, which includes the flat/funnel tubes that displays the images on the screen. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors - were first developed for use with laptop computers. Also known as flat screen monitors. TFT-LCD Monitor - A Thin Film Transistor (TFT) is the same as LCD the only difference is a thin film transistor that is applied to the screen, which results in better control of pixels. System Unit - The system unit is the core of a computer system. Inside this box are many electronic components that process information. This is where the CPU, RAM, power supply, hard disk drive and etc. lie. 3 types of Computer case Desktop Case - The desktop is flat and rectangular. It usually sits on top of the desk and is ideal for people with small workspaces. Tower Case - The tower is available in three sizes; micro, mid or mini and full tower. Shuttle Case - The shuttle is a compressed version of the micro tower and is more boxed shaped than the micro tower. Keyboard - is a device used to enter data and commands to a computer Parts of keyboard

Typing (alphanumeric) keys. These keys include the same letter, number, punctuation, and symbol keys found on a traditional typewriter. Control keys. These keys are used alone or in combination with other keys to perform certain actions. The most frequently used control keys are CTRL, ALT, theWindows logo key , and ESC.

Function keys. The function keys are used to perform specific tasks. They are labeled as F1, F2, F3, and so on, up to F12. The functionality of these keys differs from program to program. Navigation keys. These keys are used for moving around in documents or webpages and editing text. They include the arrow keys, HOME, END, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, DELETE, and INSERT. Numeric keypad. The numeric keypad is handy for entering numbers quickly. The keys are grouped together in a block like a conventional calculator or adding machine.

Mouse - A hand-held input device you roll on your desk to point to and select items on your screen. Mouse has 2 main buttons Left button we usually use this button Right button we occasionally use this button for "special" actions Scroll Wheel - In most word processing programs, you can rotate the wheel to move up or down the page. Different ways to use Mouse Pointing and Clicking Double-Clicking Right-Clicking Dragging Scrolling Printer-A printer is an output device that produces text and graphics on paper. Speaker-Speakers are used to play sound. They may be built into the system unit or connected with cables. Speakers allow you to listen to music and hear sound effects from your computer. Modem-To connect your computer to the Internet, you need a modem. A modem is a device that sends and receives computer information over a telephone line or high-speed cable. Modems are sometimes built into the system unit, but higher-speed modems are usually separate components. Automatic voltage regulator- A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level.
