It provides essential skills: The Hospitality and Tourism Management Minor in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business is designed to provide the skills necessary for entry-level management positions as well as the foundational competencies, analytical skills, and leadership capabilities that are essential for career advancement. The training combines well-established principles of sound management practice with emerging trends: This dual purpose helps ensure that the acquired skills are both relevant and timely (i.e., state-of-the-art). In this way, the Hospitality and Tourism Management Minor provides students with a competitive advantage as they graduate and begin their careers. It has a meaningful value proposition: The Hospitality and Tourism Management Minor is unique in that it provides students with generalized knowledge about the industry as well as specialized knowledge about hospitality and tourism in the State of Utah and the Intermountain Region. In doing so, participants in the program have a meaningful value proposition that allows them to be well-positioned for employment in the region and beyond.

The range of opportunities is extensive and includes such areas as: Hotel and resort management Restaurant and commercial food service Meeting, convention, and event planning Tourism destinations and attractions Leisure, recreation and sports management Airlines, cruises and other travel-related industries
DETAILS
All students enrolled at Utah State University are eligible to enter the program, regardless of major. The minor consists of 5 courses totaling 15 credit hours. The courses are taught through the Moab campus and are delivered throughout the state via USUs interactive broadcast system, or online, and include:
ENVS 3400: Fundamentals of Tourism MGT 3900: Strategic Marketing in Hospitality and Tourism MGT 3910: Revenue and Cost Management in Hospitality and Tourism MGT 3920: Hospitality Management and Operations MGT 3930: Tourism and Event Management
LEARNING OPTIONS
Interactive Broadcast
Courses allow students to interact with the instructor and other students in real time using video conferencing. Courses are traditional classes. Check with your local campus or center for availability of these classes in your area. Courses follow the regular semester calendar and utilize easy-to-use tools for coursework and study.
