Riordan Manufacturing Riordan Manufacturing Background Riordan Manufacturing is a company that is well established and has asked for a review of their telephone and data network. Riordan is a global company with different locations in the following places; San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan, and Hangzhou, China. Riordan Manufacturing has a multitude of products that they make from plastic, such as medical stents and heart valves. Team B has been contracted to perform a Service Request (SRrm-019) for Riordan Manufacturing with headquarters in San Jose, California. This request is to review the current telephone and data networks for all of Riordans locations. Then make our recommendations for improving their system that will increase the capabilities, efficiency, and features. Riordan Manufacturing also requested a high-level estimate of the cost range for our recommendations. The recommendations for improvement are needed to assist corporate headquarters in preparing their upcoming budget. In addition Riordan Manufacturing requests that a 10-12 page executive summary of the system and the recommended changes be prepared. A Microsoft PowerPoint presentation of the report should accompany the executive summary.

This complete analysis and review will cover Riordan Manufacturing offices in San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan, and Hangzhou, China. Each of the locations will have a thorough analysis of both the voice and data networks. Team B will identify limitations and make recommendations at each of their locations. This includes the network infrastructure, voice and data equipment, current and future technologies and network security procedures.

Riordan Manufacturing Current Network System

San Jose, California has 125 employees and the following telephone and data systems are being used at that location. Research and Development network have the following: 1 GB backbone 15 MAC G5s 3 Phaser color printers HP Plotter

Connected to this network is a switch to a satellite base station and then linked to a VOIP/Data Router. The VOIP/Data Router is connected to a 24-port hub Linksys that is then coupled with the 100 base T network. A separate switch is used to connect the R & D network to a 100 base T network. WIN Network server, WIN Exchange server, UNIX ERP/MRP Server, and a NAS Iomega P800M are all connected to the 100 base T. The network consists of 35 Dell Optiflex computers, 12 are located in the Corp., and 8 in Marketing. These 20 computers are linked to a 24-port Cisco switch. The finance department has 8 computers, and HR has 7, which are linked to the other 24-port Cisco switch. Both 24-port Cisco switches are connected to the 100 base T network. There are 35 IP phones, and a VOIP/Data router that are also connected to the 100 base T network. The VOIP/Data Router is connected to a T1 line to the outside network. In Albany, GA, there are 20 Compaq Presario computers and 2 HP LaserJet Vs connected together with cat5 cables to a 48-port patch panel. These are then connected to two Nortel Baystack switches. There are 2 Compaq Proliant with a Windows NT Fileprint Server and an Exchange Server running on them. A HP UX Server with UNIX on it. These servers are connected to the two Nortel Baystack switches, and a 24-port Nortel Baystack switch this leads to the manufacturing floor.

Riordan Manufacturing The two 24-port Nortel Baystack switches are 100 Mbps switches that are linked to a Cisco

Router. These are then connected to a Kentrox Datasmart 658 CSU/DSU that has a fractional T1 line connected to headquarters in San Jose, California. The Pontiac, Mi site has 45 Compaq computers that vary in hardware specs. There are 3 HP Laserjet Printers. They are both connected to 3, 24-port Patch Parcels that in turn are linked to the Nortel Baystack 107 10BT hub. The hubs are connected to two different items. The first is two Compaq Proliants servers and one HP UX Server this goes to the backup server. The Compaq Proliant is also attached to a IBM AIX that is connected to a 24-port hub that leads down to the Manufacturing Floor. The second connection is to the Cisco Router then to the Blackbox CSU/DSU. The final connection links this office to Headquarters in California. In Hangzhou, China there are 40 Dell Optiflex computers connected to 2, 24-port switches. The company has 40 IP phones and 8 Laserjet printers that are linked directly to the Ethernet. On the other side of the Ethernet is a Gateway Switch that leads to the Satellite Base station and to the VOIP/DATA Router. In addition the Ethernet has 3 servers, a NAS Iomega, 3, 24-port Linksys hub that leads to the Factory floor, and a router that goes to a T1 to an outside network. Each location is in need of new equipment to better service this company. Most of the equipment is antiquated and obsolete. Team B will make their recommendations based on the equipment that is present and what the company needs to advance into the future.
