Native Ceremony to ave Mega-Quarry Waters S From Foreign Theft

Natives and farmers took part in a water ceremony on a farmers land to prevent the creation of the 3 kilometer by 10 kilometer hole in the ground (2300 acres) that will destroy forever the potato lands that supply Toronto with 50% of their potatoes. The proposed quarry is 5 miles north of Shelburne and will block skiers travelling to Collingwood, etc., etc. Tax payments will also disappear as the 7 day a week daily explosion of 23 tons of explosives will endanger health from ten years of thousands of trucks spewing diesel particulates into

the lungs of thousands of people. The underground limestone going to the U.S. and China will not be available to Canadians. Ultimately, the quarry that will be formed will result in fresh water that will be shipped to the United States and Israel. Natives and farmers shown here also protested Dump Site 41 wherein the McGuinty government tried to organize the theft of the purest water there. (See more on page 8)

As winters dark days loom, Vitamin D supplement experts explain why we still need a daily dose of sun...
As winter's dark days loom, why vitamin D supplement experts explain why we still need a daily dose of sun... from a bottle By ALICE SMELLIE Vitamin D is actually a hormone that is made naturally by the body from fat under the skin in response to sunlight. And, astonishingly, more than half the British population dont get enough, with one in six severely deficient in Vitamin D by early spring. Evidence suggests this may raise the risk of a host of problems from bone-thinning, heart disease and cancer to diabetes and even depression. The answer, experts agree, is taking a supplement throughout autumn and winter. So just why are these pills made from sheeps wool and mushrooms so vital to our health? A little sunshine goes a long way: But one in six Brits are severely deficient in Vitamin D by early spring (posed by model) WHY WE DON'T GET ENOUGH VITAMIN D We need ten to 15 minutes of direct sunlight on unprotected skin several times a week from May to September to make enough Vitamin D to see us through the winter. Darker skins may need longer as the pigmentation doesnt allow such efficient production, and fairer skin less time. Outside these months, the sun is at the wrong angle to produce the right wavelength of ultraviolet light, and no Vitamin D is produced. People are so aware of the dangers of UV damage that they often avoid it and were especially careful of children, because of the link between early sunburn and skin cancer. In October, our levels of Vitamin D should still be acceptable, assuming we have gone out in the sun during the summer, says Dr Elina Hypponen of the Medical Research Councils Centre of Epidemiology for Child Health. But Vitamin D is stored for only between one and two months in the body. From now on, levels start to drop and by January almost everyone will have below optimum levels. Were starting at a disadvantage this year after an appalling summer. I recom- born babies can be deficient because they mend taking supplements now. arent absorbing enough from their mothers. The elderly, housebound, dark-skinned WE ALL NEED MORE OF THE SUN- and those who cover up for social or reliSHINE VITAMIN gious reasons are also at risk. The body needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium, which is essential for bone health. Deficiency increases the risk of the bonethinning disease osteoporosis and fractures by up to 60 per cent and can also cause os teomalacia, a bone-softening condition. ther deficiency or insufficiency. Deficiency is suggested to be less than 25nmol [nanomoles per litre] in the blood, which is the point at which bone health starts to be affected, he says. Finding out if you are deficient involves a straightforward blood test. He recommends that everyone takes a supplement. HOW TO CHOOSE A SUPPLEMENT There are two forms of Vitamin D. D2 comes from plant sources such as mushrooms or is synthetic, and D3 from sheeps wool. There is a slight difference in their chemical structure but this shouldnt affect the way they are processed by the body, says Dr Hypponen. Prof Grossman recommends taking 1000IU or 25mcg daily. 400IU will maintain levels but wont push them higher if they are already low, says Dr Hypponen, who thinks it should take as little as a month to push levels back up to a respectable level Dr Storr suggests that newborns can have 400IU a day and older children up to 1000IU. A dangerous dose would depend on the individual but it would be in the tens or even hundreds of thousands taken over a long period. Dr Carrie Ruxton, of the Health Supplements Information Service, suggests that Vitamin D is safe to take with any medications if you are taking an over-the-counter one. Our modern lifestyles are partly responsible for the problem of D-deficiency reemerging, says Dr Hypponen. And we are only just beginning to understand the full impact Vitamin D has on health. Listen to your waterworks! (they're telling you something) There is evidence it may slow the progression of cancer, says John Monson, professor of Endocrinology at The London Clinic. And Dr Hypponen says: There are links between Vitamin D deficiency and raised risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes Studies show keeping levels up may help prevent seasonal infections such as colds. In the past few years children have started to develop rickets, a bone-softening disease associated with the Victorians and with lack of sunshine. Last year, Leicester Royal Infirmary reported 200 cases of rickets being admitted and last November, Southampton General Hospital said that one in five children tested for bone problems had signs of rickets. These increasing numbers are frustrating because its so easily preventable as Vitamin D supplements are inexpensive, says Dr Helen Storr, consultant in paediatric endocrinology at St Barts and the London NHS Trust. Those most at risk of deficiency are pregnant and breast-feeding women, and children, who need it for bone growth. It has been observed that pregnant women are more likely to need a caesarean if they have low levels of Vitamin D. Even new-

HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH? Most EU countries recommend 10 micrograms (mcg) or 400IU (international units) of Vitamin D a day but that only ten per cent of this should come from the diet. There is no definitive UK guideline. A salmon fillet contains about 7mcg, and egg yolks less than 0.5mcg. Some breakfast cereals and margarines have Vitamin D added Special K has about 8mcg per 100g and margarines contain between 7mcg and 9mcg. It isnt practical to get all your needs from food, says Dr Hypponen. No one is going to eat a generous portion of oily fish every day. Thats why almost all of us could benefit from a supplement. Professor Ashley Grossman, endocrinologist at Oxford University, is seeing increasing numbers of patients suffering from ei-

Editors Comments
As time goes on the mainstream media owned by corporations has degenerated into even more anti-human reporting. Suppressed are many stories about the removal of supplements and vitamins from public access. In Germany, it is required to have a government pharmacy prescribe vitamins -- Vitamin E costs $80+ a bottle for instance. Here in Canada, and the U.S. too -- we are seeing legislation adopted to stop access to such basic health necesssities. Is it another population control system you may ask. From fluoridated water causing reduced IQ levels for children, chemtrails containing aluminum and barium advancing Alzheimers, a lack of supplements and vitamins being available -- we could very well say there is a population control being instituted. Radiation from Fukushima is overwhelming -- another story that is suppressed -- anyone for moving to Argentina? Ten times the radiation of Chernobyl has been released from the Fukushima nuclear plants. Chernobyl radiation has been credited with the early deaths of 900,000 people! Corporate media is just that -corporate conspiracy for profits that ignore the health of the vast majority. Will corporate people themselves be radiated? Yes. Thats whats so ugly about this scenario. By ELLIOT SPAGAT An undated photo released by the San Diego County Water Authority shows water gushing from an electricity plant in Playas de Rosarito, Mexico, next to a site where government agencies in the western United States are considering putting large desalination plants. Details are being worked out, but these vast amounts of water used at the electricity plant could be used for desalination at the proposed site. (AP Photo/San Diego County Water Authority) SAN DIEGO (AP) Mexico ships televisions, cars, sugar and medical equipment to the United States. Soon, it may be sending water north. Western states are looking south of the border for water to fill drinking glasses, flush toilets and sprinkle lawns, as four major U.S. water districts help plan one of two huge desalination plant proposals in Playas de Rosarito, about 15 miles south of San Diego. Combined, they would produce 150 million gallons a day, enough to supply more than 300,000 homes on both sides of the border. The plants are one strategy by both countries to wean themselves from the droughtprone Colorado River, which flows 1,450 miles from the Rocky Mountains to the Sea of Cortez. Decades of friction over the Colorado, in fact, are said to be a hurdle to current desalination negotiations. The proposed plants have also sparked concerns that American water interests looking to Mexico are simply trying to dodge U.S. environmental reviews and legal challenges. Desalination plants can blight coastal landscapes, sucking in and killing fish eggs and Gutierrez, assistant director for binational affairs at Mexicos National Water Commission. Mexicos rights are enshrined in a 1944 treaty. The treaty carries great significance in our country. We have to protect it fiercely, Gutierrez said. Rick Van Schoik, director of Arizona State Universitys North American Center for Transborder Studies, said laying a pipeline across the border would be too costly. Its expensive enough to desalinate. I just dont see how it calculates out, he said. The other big plant proposal joins Consolidated Water Co., a Cayman Islands company, with Mexican investors. Their proposal would send much of its 100 million gallons a day from Rosarito to the United States via a new pipeline, with operations beginning in 2014. Mexico isnt likely to approve both plants, said Gutierrez, whose government is sponsoring the 50-million-gallon-a-day plant with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the San Diego County Water Authority, the Central Arizona Water Conservation District and the Southern Nevada Water Authority. A key question is whether Mexico will allow water first used at the neighboring electric plant to be desalinated a giant potential savings. California recently adopted rules that prohibit the states electric plants from sucking in vast amounts of seawater to cool their machinery. The Carlsbad plant illustrates how difficult

Dozens of proposals are on the drawing board in the United States to address water scarcity but the only big project to recently win regulators blessings would produce 50 million gallons a day in Carlsbad, near San Diego. A smaller plant was approved last year in Monterey, some 110 miles south of San Francisco. Mexico is a relative newcomer to desalination. Its largest plant supplies 5 million gallons a day in the Baja California resort town of Cabo San Lucas, with a smattering of tiny ones on the Baja peninsula. Skeptics already question the two proposed plants in Playas de Rosarito known as Rosarito Beach to American expatriates and visiting college spring-breakers. It raises all kinds of red flags, said Joe Geever, California policy coordinator for the Surfrider Foundation, an environmentalist group that has fought the Carlsbad plant for years in court, saying it will kill marine life and require too much electricity. Water agencies that supply much of Southern California, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Tijuana, Mexico, are pursuing the plant that would produce 50 million gallons a day in Rosarito near an existing electricity plant. They commissioned a study last year that found no fatal flaws and ordered another one that will include a cost estimate, with an eye toward

The planets will never be in alignment like they were in Carlsbad, said Tom Pankrantz, editor of Water Desalination Report. They had the right project, at the right place, at the right time. The San Diego agency wants to get 10 percent of the regions water from desalination by 2020 as a way to lessen its dependence on the Colorado River, which is connected by aqueduct about 200 miles away. Tijuana also wants to rely less on the river, a priority that gained urgency after a 2010 earthquake knocked out its aqueduct for about three weeks. The U.S. and Mexico can save money by joining forces, achieving economies of scale, said Halla Razak, the San Diego agencys Colorado River program manager. At least half of the plants water would stay in Mexico, she said. Mexico is the entity that is driving the project, even more than the United States, she said. U.S. and Mexican officials say they expect the new plants will adhere to the same standards as California, including water quality, but that Mexicos regulators may act faster and shield sponsors from legal challenges. The Mexicans will ask all the same questions that we ask here, but its not endless lawsuits, said Mark Watton, general manager of Otay Water District, which would buy about 20 million gallons a day from Consolidateds Mexico plant for its San Diego-area customers. These ideas are just a way of redirecting provincially collected taxpayer fees to local coffers it is fair game. That money is taxpayer money being paid to wind companies that are financed by large international banks, merchant banks, investment houses and insurance companies. Feel no guilt about attaching profits from these institutions they are in business for one reason only to make a profit. You should have no compunctions about reducing that profit and taxing windfall profits. As a closing issue let me remind you that this should do more than make money. It should get all the development issues on the table. It will put the program under a scrutiny that I do not believe it can bear. It should kill the diseased goose laying the leaden eggs. Last, but not least, it should be the beginning of the end for a political party that did not investigate before it leaped into action. Its time to quit rolling over. It is now time to use your imagination. Pass this information to your local councils. Even if they are pro-wind and pro-solar surely they can see the opportunity for revenue enhancement! If we cannot stop these developments the profits should go the local population. That was the original intent of the Green Movement and the Green Energy Act. Its time to return to the roots of the movement. Power (and money) to the people. Do you have any suggestions for additional items? Please post them on Wind Concerns. I will be happy to update this document with fresh ideas! By, David Robinson, B.Sc. ruralgrubby -- Thanks David for providing such creative ideas regarding wind development for municipalities. You are right that municipalities have missed the boat (especially mine) in getting the most out of these developers if we must put up with this behemoths. I personally would like to see the darn things gone from the face of the earth, since I cannot see any value in them other than large developers and a handful of farmers making money in the short term. Not many however are looking beyond the end of their nose. For example, What will happen when the turbines are abandonned if the government payouts stop? Just with a decrease in rate for solar supposedly stopped hundreds of contracts for solar panels installed on farms. Luckily farmers managed to get this rate pushed back up to make their projects viable yet they cant even understand that rates of return are based on 6 hours a day sunlight. In a northern country like Canada, we should only rely on 2 hours a day. Rural municipalities are generally not ingratiated with council members having good business acumen, as well many just dont want to do the foot work to investigate fully what this all means in the long term, so instead move forward simply based on what appears to be the favoured vote. Wind Energy development unfortunately still is viewed by many as a Cinderella story for their community.

ince refurbishes its nuclear fleet. The study said it found a number of omitted costs that werent included in Ontarios long-term energy plan, which was released last year by the governing Liberals. The plan underestimates the capital costs of wind turbines, for example, and fails to attach any individual dollar values to specific transmission projects to put renewable energy projects on the provincial grid, the study said. The plan also lowballs the costs of backing up renewable energy with natural gas-fired plants when the wind isnt blowing and the sun isnt shining, saying it will cost $1.8 billion when it will likely be closer to $9.6 billion. Energy Minister Brad Duguid called the study bogus, saying its full of technical errors and incorrect assumptions. He also took aim at its authors, saying Gallant is known for opposing renewable power. Its not an honest study, Duguid said in an interview. There are a number of areas in there that theyve miscalculated _ probably deliberately _ but certainly the conclusions theyve reached are simply incorrect and bogus. Gallant said he started examining the energy sector after receiving an ugly electricity bill, but stands by the studys findings. And rates are going up. The Ontario Energy Board announced Monday that residents using smart meters will see their bills increase 1.8 per cent starting in November, representing an extra $2.11 on the electricity line. Gallant and Foxs study also concluded that the governments push for green energy is affecting the provinces finances as well. Due to the costs of connecting renewables to the provincial grid, Hydro One has reduced its dividend payments to the province, affecting the governments ability to reduce a provincial debt that currently stands at $230 billion. Between 2004 and 2008, Hydro Ones average dividend payment to the province was 64 per cent of earnings. In the first nine months of 2010, it was down to less than five per cent, the study said. Ontario Power Generation, which was excluded from wind and solar projects, will lose revenue because those projects are put at the front of the line when accessing the provincial grid, the study said. That means it will take longer for OPG to repay the stranded debt that was due when former Ontario Hydro was split into three different entities, it said. One of the largest hidden costs involves local distribution companies, who can apply for a rate increase if their revenues deteriorate due to energy conservation efforts and the shortfall will be charged to ratepayers, the study said. It also casts doubt on Liberal claims that the Green Energy Act wins 50,000 new jobs.

Jobs!

Cost of green energy 40% higher than government estimates: new study by Maria Babbage, IPolitics TORONTO _ Ontario residents could end up paying some of the highest costs for electricity in the developing world because providing wind and solar energy will cost about 40 per cent more than government estimates, according to a new study. Ratepayers should expect their electricity bills to rise by 65 per cent by 2015 and 141 per cent by 2030 _ substantially more than current government predictions of 46 per cent and 100 per cent, the study found. The average residential users annual bill, which currently stands at $1,700, will exceed $2,800 by 2015 and be over $4,100 by 2030, it predicts. Certain costs werent included in the governments estimates, such as inflation, transmitting electricity to the provincial grid from wind and solar facilities and backup generation for potential disruptions, the study found. Those higher costs would erode the competitiveness of businesses in Ontario and pose challenges for low-income households, said University of Guelph professor and agricultural economist Glenn Fox, who co-authored the study with retired banker Parker Gallant. Bills could climb even higher because the study didnt include other potential costs, such as possible cost overruns as the prov-

Radiation there is higher than around Fukushima The damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant may not be the source, officials say Tokyo (CNN) -- An extraordinarily high level of radiation was detected in one spot in a central Tokyo residential district, prompting the local government to cordon off the small area, local officials said. Radiation levels were higher in Tokyos Setagaya ward than in the evacuation area around the badly damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, according to ward Mayor Nobuto Hosaka. We are shocked to see such high radiation level was detected in our neighborhood. We cannot leave it as is, Hosaka told reporters. But the tsunami-struck Fukushima plant may not be the source of the radiation, Hosaka said later on state television.

Officials searching for the cause found glass bottles in a cardboard box in the basement of a house in the neighborhood which sent radiation detectors off the charts, he said on NHK. We suspect these bottles in basement could be the cause of the high radiation reading and we are hastily working to confirm it, he said. Radiation experts are now checking what contaminated the bottles, a Setagaya ward official told CNN, declining to be named in line with policy. They told the local government there are no immediate health hazards. Radiation levels just a few f e e t from t h e con-

Premier Dalton McGuinty often touted those job-creation claims during the Oct. 6 election campaign, making frequent stops at plants that manufacture wind and solar power components as he travelled the province. How the government arrived at that number has never been explained, the study said. And creating those 50,000 new green energy jobs will require ratepayer subsidies of about $200,000 a year for each position. Thats a lot of money, and how many other jobs could have been made if we hadn't increased taxes to pay for it, said Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak. Hudak promised during the campaign to tear up key sections of the Liberals green energy policy, but failed to topple McGuinty, who returned to office with a reduced mandate of 53 seats _ one short of a majority government. At the very least with this new government situation, lets shine the light, lets have transparency on how much this costs and how many contracts are actually out there, and what its going to mean for the average family, Hudak said Monday. The Liberals have been downplaying the costs of their energy plan, but the study takes aim at the wrong target, said New Democrat Peter Tabuns. This report goes after green energy, when we think the biggest cost risks are nuclear power and the profiteering thats going on, he said.

taminated spot are normal, Hosaka said. The Tokyo scare comes a day after officials in Yokohama, Japans second largest city, investigated soil samples after a radioactive substance was found in sediment atop an apartment building, according to news reports. Yokohama is about 155 miles (250 kilometers) from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant. The discovery raised concerns that leaked radiation from three Fukushima reactors that suffered meltdowns after the March earthquake and tsunami may be more widespread than thought, The Japan Times reported Wednesday. The U.S. government issued a travel alert last week, warning Americans in Japan to a v o i d areas near the stricken reactors. T h e alert recommends that U.S. citizens stay away from areas within 20 kilometers (12 miles) of the nuclear facility. The State Department also admonished Americans to stay away from territory northwest of the plant in a zone that Japan calls the Deliberate Evacuation Area. The zone includes Iitate-mura, the Yamagiya district of Kawamata-machi, Katsurao-mura, Namie-machi and parts of Minamisoma.

Those Wonderful Efficient Light Bulbs?

Energy Efficient Light Bulbs Unscrewed: A Triple Threat to Your Health and Environment (Part 1) If theres one thing that gets under my skin, its the one sided truth about compact fluorescent light bulbs. And if youre fed up with skyrocketing energy bills or the damage inflicted on our environment, Im sure youve seen plenty of hype for these light bulbs. These energy efficient light bulbs are supposed to drastically reduce your power bills and green house gas emissions that are linked with global warming. But the simple fact is Theres a dark shadow cast by compact fluorescent light bulbs on your health and the environment that you should know about! Before I tell you all about it lets quickly go over the benefits of CFLs that weve been force fed by the media, industry, and governments. By now you and I have been led to believe compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs are great! After all, they use 75% less electricity. Theyre four times more efficient than incandescent light bulbs, meaning a 13 Watt CFL would give off as much light as a 60 Watt incandescent. Prices have dropped so much over the last few years that CFL bulbs are a bargain compared to the cost of incandescent bulbs. Heck they even last up to ten times longer than incandescent bulbs. This is great for the environment because it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants created by fossil-fuel power plants. As an added bonus you save money by having to purchase less CFL bulbs compared to incandescent bulbs. Plus, your electric bill is reduced too!

Governments are mandating CFL use and I found about each threat in more detail. But banning incandescent light bulbs. What the Toronto Star/NOW mag wont tell you:: Citizens Testing Finds 20 Hot Spots Around Tokyo
HIROKO TABUCHI Takeo Hayashida signed on with a citizens group to test for radiation near his sons baseball field in Tokyo after government officials told him they had no plans to check for fallout from the devastated Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Like Japans central government, local officials said there was nothing to fear in the capital, 160 miles from the disaster zone. Toshiyuki Hattori, who runs a sewage plant in Tokyo issurrounded by sacks of radioactive sludge. Kazuhiro Yokozeki for The New York Times Then came the test result: the level of radioactive cesium in a patch of dirt just yards from where his 11-year-old son, Koshiro, played baseball was equal to those in some contaminated areas around Chernobyl. The patch of ground was one of more than 20 spots in and around the nations capital that the citizens group, and the respected nuclear research center they worked with, found were contaminated with potentially harmful levels of radioactive cesium. It has been clear since the early days of the nuclear accident, the worlds second worst after Chernobyl, that that the vagaries of wind and rain had scattered worrisome amounts of radioactive materials in unexpected patterns far outside the evacuation zone 12 miles around the stricken plant. But reports that substantial amounts of cesium had accumulated as far away as Tokyo have raised new concerns about how far the contamination had spread, possibly settling in areas where the government has not even considered looking. The governments failure to act quickly, a growing chorus of scientists say, may be exposing many more people than originally believed to potentially harmful radiation. It is also part of a pattern: Japans leaders have continually insisted that the fallout from Fukushima will not spread far, or pose a health threat to residents, or contaminate the food chain. And officials have repeatedly been proved wrong by independent experts and citizens groups that conduct testing on their own. Radioactive substances are entering peoples bodies from the air, from the food. Its everywhere, said Kiyoshi Toda, a radiation expert at Nagasaki Universitys faculty of environmental studies and a medical doctor. But the government doesnt even try to inform the public how much radiation theyre exposed to. The reports of hot spots do not indicate how widespread contamination is in the capital; more sampling would be needed to determine that. But they raise the prospect that people living near concentrated amounts of cesium are being exposed to levels of radiation above accepted international standards meant to protect people from cancer and other illnesses. Japanese nuclear experts and activists have begun agitating for more comprehensive testing in Tokyo and elsewhere, and a cleanup if necessary. Robert Alvarez, a nuclear expert and a former special assistant to the United States secretary of energy, echoed those calls, saying the citizens groups measurements raise major and unprecedented concerns about the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. The government has not ignored citizens pleas entirely; it recently completed aerial testing in eastern Japan, including Tokyo. But several experts and activists say the tests are unlikely to be sensitive enough to be useful in finding micro hot spots such as those found by the citizens group. Kaoru Noguchi, head of Tokyos health and safety section, however, argues that the testing already done is sufficient. Because Tokyo is so developed, she says, radioactive material was much more likely to have fallen on concrete, then washed away. She also said exposure was likely to be limited. Nobody stands in one spot all day, she said. And nobody eats dirt. Tokyo residents knew soon after the March 11 accident, when a tsunami knocked out the crucial cooling systems at the Fukushima plant, that they were being exposed to radioactive materials. Researchers detected a spike in radiation levels on March 15. Then as rain drizzled down on the evening of March 21, radioactive material again fell on the city. In the following week, however, radioactivity in the air and water dropped rapidly. Most in the city put aside their jitters, some openly scornful of those mostly foreigners who had fled Tokyo in the early days of the disaster. But not everyone was convinced. Some Tokyo residents bought dosimeters. The Tokyo citizens group, the Radiation Defense Project, which grew out of a Facebook discussion page, decided to be more proactive. In consultation with the Yokohama-based Isotope Research Institute, members collected soil samples from near their own homes and submitted them for testing. Some of the results were shocking: the sample that Mr. Hayashida collected under shrubs near his neighborhood baseball field in the Edogawa ward measured nearly 138,000 becquerels per square meter of radioactive cesium 137, which can damage cells and lead to an increased risk of cancer. Of the 132 areas tested, 22 were above 37,000 becquerels per square meter, the level at which zones were considered contaminated at Chernobyl. Edwin Lyman, a physicist at the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington, said most residents near Chernobyl were undoubtedly much worse off, surrounded by widespread contamination rather than isolated hot spots. But he said the 37,000 figure remained a good reference point for mandatory cleanup because regular exposure to such contamination could result in a dosage of more than one millisievert per year, the maximum recommended for the public by the International Commission on Radiological Protection. The most contaminated spot in the Radiation Defense survey, near a church, was well above the level of the 1.5 million becquerels per square meter that required mandatory resettlement at Chernobyl. The level is so much higher than other results in the study that it raises the possibility of testing error, but micro hot spots are not unheard of after nuclear disasters. Japans relatively tame mainstream media, which is more likely to report on government pronouncements than grass-roots movements, mainly ignored the citizens groups findings. Everybody just wants to believe that this is Fukushimas problem, said Kota Kinoshita, one of the groups leaders and a former television journalist. But if the government is not serious about finding out, how can we trust

them? Hideo Yamazaki, an expert in environmental analysis at Kinki University in western Japan, did his own survey of the city and said he, too, discovered high levels in the area where the baseball field is located. These results are highly localized, so there is no cause for panic, he said. Still, there are steps the government could be taking, like decontaminating the highest spots. Since then, there have been other suggestions that hot spots were more widespread than originally imagined. Last month, a local government in a Tokyo ward found a pile of composted leaves at a school that measured 849 becquerels per kilogram of cesium 137, over two times Japans legally permissible level for compost. And on Wednesday, civilians who tested the roof of an apartment building in the nearby city of Yokohama farther from Fukushima than Tokyo found high quantities of radioactive strontium. (There was also one false alarm this week when sky-high readings were reported in the Setagaya ward in Tokyo; the government later said they were probably caused by bottles of radium, once widely used to make paint.) The governments own aerial testing showed that although almost all of Tokyo had relatively little contamination, two areas showed elevated readings. One was in a mountainous area at the western edge of the Tokyo metropolitan region, and the other was over three wards of the city including the one where the baseball field is situated. The metropolitan government said it had started preparations to begin monitoring food products from the nearby mountains, but acknowledged that food had been shipped from that area for months. Mr. Hayashida, who discovered the high level at the baseball field, said that he was not waiting any longer for government assurances. He moved his family to Okayama, about 370 miles to the southwest.

Perhaps we could have stayed in Tokyo with no problems, he said. But I choose a future with no radiation fears.

her other 24 male subjects; both the amount approved by the FDA (a 50mg per kilogram ratio) as a reasonable dose, and the amount consumed by some likely uninformed individuals. Though it may seem as news to some readers, aspartame has been a known carcinogen for quite some time. Artificial sweetener aspartame (NutraSweet) still included in countless products despite tumor link Aspartame researcher Dr. Soffritti did a similar pair of studies to InnesBrowns. The first study found that consumption of the equivalent of 4 to 5 bottles of diet soda per day yielded high rates of cancerous growths among many of his subjects; the highest dose producing 25 percent of females with cancerous cell growth, compared to 8.7 percent of the control group females. With this study, Soffritti concluded that aspartame at a ratio as low as 400 parts per million (ppm) was considered carcinogenic. Initially these findings caused quite the controversy and sparked mass denial and nay saying worldwide. Now, after over 900 published studies on the health hazards of the sweetener the nay saying has been curbed substantially. Such studies have indicated that aspartame is nothing more than a bond of two amino acids found in our own amino acid profile, with a disproportionately large quantity of each bonded together with a known poison. Metabolized in the body, aspartame can yield other more dangerous chemicals such as Methanol and Formaldehyde.

Aspartame, the artificial sweetener found in many diet sodas and used as an alternative sweetener, has been found recently to have detrimental specifically, cancerous effects. A study performed by researcher Victoria Innes-Brown, after mounting concerns with how much diet coke her family members seemed to consume daily, showed that of 48 rats experimented on up to 67 percent of all females developed tumors roughly the size of golf balls or larger. The male population didnt do too well either: 21 percent of the males developed similar cancerous growths. For the course of her two-and-a-halfyear study, Innes-Brown used a dose of NutraSweet (found on shelves in food stores across the nation) comparable to that of 14 cans of diet soda for her 24 female test subjects and 13 cans for

In fact, going back 54 years there have only been 11 claims of vitamin-related death, all of which provided no substantial evidence to link vitamins to the cause of death. The news comes after a recent statistically analysis found that pharmaceutical drug deaths now outnumber traffic fatalities in the US. In 2009, drugs exceeded the amount of traffic-related deaths, killing at least 37,485 people nationwide. The findings go against the claims of mainstream medical experts and mainstream media outlets who often push the idea that multivitamins are detrimental to your health, and that prescription drugs are the only science-backed option to improving your health. While essential nutrients like vitamin D are continually being shown to slash your risk of disease such as diabetes and cancer, prescription pharmaceuticals are continually being linked to such conditions. In fact, the top-selling therapeutic class pharmaceutical drug has been tied to the development of diabetes and even suicide, and whistleblowers are just now starting to speak out despite studies as

far back as the 80s highlighting the risks. Mainstream medical health officials were recently forced to speak out over the danger of antipsychotic drugs, which millions of children have been prescribed since 2009. U.S. pediatric health advisers blew the whistle over the fact that these pharmaceuticals can lead to diabetes and even suicide, the very thing they aim to prevent. What is even more troubling is that half of all Americans will be diagnosed with a mental condition during their lifetime thanks to lack of diagnosis guidelines currently set by the medical establishment, of which many cases will lead to the prescription of antipsychotics and other similar medications. Covering up the side effects In order to protect sales, the link between suicide and antipsychotic drugs was completely covered up by Eli Lilly & Co, the makers of Prozac. Despite research stretching as far back as the 1980s finding that Prozac actually leads to suicide, the company managed to hide the evidence until a Harvard psychiatrist leaked the information into the press. The psychiatrist, Martin Teicher, stated that the American people were being treated like guinea pigs in a massive pharmaceutical experiment. Greedy and oftentimes prescription-happy doctors are handing out antipsychotic medication like candy to adults and young children alike. In 2008, antipsychotics became the top-selling therapeutic class prescription drug in the United States and grossing over $14 billion in sales.

Canadas native community is credited with being better saviours of our lands than whites. 2nd war veteran Wallace (Braveheart name) told us at his farm rally to save the water from the proposed Mega-Quarry that natives appear to be doing a better job as he poked the ground with his cane. These flags were raised at the time of the water ceremony created by natives and supported by local farmers. Toronto Star printed Toronto Street News for years until it was sabotaged with wrong pages being printed repeatedly at great cost to Toronto Street News.

We cant find Social & Environmental Responsibility At the Toronto Star!!

Antipsychotic drugs are not the only dangerous pharmaceuticals. The average drug

label contains 70 side effects, though many popular pharmaceuticals have been found to contain 100 to 125. Some drugs, prescribed by doctors to supposedly improve your health, come with over 525 negative reactions. Ritalin, for example, has been linked to conditions including: Increased blood pressure Increased heart rate Increased body temperature Increased alertness Suppressed appetite Perhaps the hundreds of negative side effects is part of the reason why the FDA announced last year that it is pulling more than 500 cold and allergy off the market due to health concerns. Prescription drugs kill more people than traffic accidents, and come with up to 525 negative side effects. Avoiding these drugs and utilizing high quality organic alternatives like whole food-based multivitamins and green superfoods will lead to a total health transformation without harsh side effects and an exponentially increased death risk.
