PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Responsible for the oversight of the Recreation departments of five LTC facilities located
throughout New Jersey. My main goal is to ensure program effectiveness and enhance
quality of life of the residents. Areas of expertise:
• Recreation Program Development – developed therapeutic programs in five
buildings based on evaluation of residents needs, education sessions with staff and
therapeutic/ holistic approaches.
• Marketing, event planning, fundraising – assist/ organize and develop community
programs, special events, open houses, etc.
• Survey Readiness and Mock Inspections
• Staff Development & Training – all aspects of dementia care, wellness programs,
cognitive therapy, validation therapy, and person centered care.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to recreation directors, staff and other
employees. Encourage and promote education and certification. Established a
budget for such.
• Team Building – work with administrators, activity directors on morale building
activities

• Monitor worker/hour requirements to ensure staffing is within budgeted hours
while meeting the needs of the resident population.

Director of Recreation
• Responsible for assisting each resident to achieve his/her highest practicable level
through individualized and therapeutic activity programming based on a
comprehensive assessment.
• Developed a Good Works Committee, through which residents decreased their
sense of isolation by making contributions to the community. The Good Works
Committee plans and executes fundraisers for local and national charities.
Facilitated involvement in the following community fundraisers: Operation
Shoebox, American Heart Walk, Memory Walk, Raritan Valley Habitat for
Humanity, coat drive for the homeless.
• Began a Sunshine Committee which increased residents' sense of autonomy and
involvement in facility life. The Sunshine Committee welcomes new residents;
sends birthday, sympathy and get well cards; and assists in planning special
events.
• Increased staffing to better meet the needs of cognitively impaired residents.
• Performed a population needs assessment and implemented quantifiable activity
programming based on the needs, interests and abilities of the residents.
• Trained staff in activity adaptation, thematic programming, and the therapeutic
process.
• Implemented depression group work with Social Services utilizing a systematic
approach including assignments to decrease maladaptive thoughts/ behaviors and
and to divert sad mood to constructive accomplishment.
• Designed a therapeutic exercise program with physical therapy to enhance
functioning.
