Introduction

Geometry is a part of mathematics concerned with questions of size, shape, relative position of figures, and the properties of space. Geometry is one of the oldest sciences. Initially a body of practical knowledge concerning lengths, areas, and volumes. in the 3rd century BC geometry was put into an axiomatic form by Euclid, whose treatment, Euclidean geometry, set a standard for many centuries to follow.

The introduction of coordinates by Ren Descartes and the concurrent development of algebra marked a new stage for geometry, since geometric figures, such as plane curves, could now be represented with functions and equations. This played a key role in the emergence of calculus in the 17th century. Furthermore, the theory of perspective showed that there is more to geometry than just the metric properties of figures. The subject of geometry was further enriched by the study of intrinsic structure of geometric objects that originated with Euler and Gauss and led to the creation of topology and differential geometry.

While the visual nature of geometry makes it initially more accessible than other parts of mathematics, such as algebra or number theory, geometric language is also used in contexts far removed from its traditional, Euclidean provenance.

Reflection

From this project, I know that the parabolic shape of the concrete structure can be represent by various function with different point of reference. When conducting this project. I also have learnt how to find the needed area by using application of calculus. Whereas in the further exploration, I found that the cost for building the gate of the art gallery can be minimize by using a smaller area parabolic shape concrete structure and use arithmetic method to find out the relation between the length and the area to be paint.

During the process, I have learnt the moral value of never give up and be patient. I feel want to give up and stop doing the project when I cant solve the problem. Luckily, I manage to find back my spirit again and be more patient and finally I finish this project. After finish this project, I feel so happy that I have claimed a precious knowledge about additional mathematics calculating that might be helping me in my future.

For my opinion, mathematics indeed was an interesting subject that we can exercise our brain by calculating and solving the problem. Other than that, we need the knowledge about mathematics as we will be using different formula and equation of mathematic to achieve a better performance in our daily life.
