Measure of Dispersion
Dispersion : The term dispersion means the scatterness of observation from some central value. Suppose that the player scored the following runs in a 5 matchs. Sachin Tandulkar 1st 55 2nd 49 3rd 65 4th 58 5th 51 Average 55.6
Cris Gayl 10 105 50 0 113 55.6 Here the mean of the score are equal. We cant say who is the best. Here dispersion use.
Measure of dispersion can be divided into two groups: (1) Absolute measure of dispersion . (2) Relative measure of dispersion.
Range. Mean deviation (M.D). Quartile deviation (Q.D). The variance. The standard deviation. Relative
measure of dispersion:
Such measure are: Coefficient of range Coefficient of quartile deviation Coefficient of mean deviation Coefficient of variation
In other words if the X value are arranged in ascending order such that, x1<x2<x3<<xn then, R=xn-x1
On more , R=L-S
Mean deviation
The mean deviation is an average of absolute deviation of individual observations from the central value of a series of the deviation can be measured from mean , median and mode. Let us consider a set of sample observation as follow:
x1,x2,x3,,xn
The mean, median, and mode of this set of observation be X, me, and mo. Then the mean deviation from mean, median and mode are, M.D(X)= M.D(me)= M.D(mode)= If a grouped frequency dist is construction then the average deviation is, M.D(X)= and so on.
For example:- The monthly average temperature in different months of 2011 recorded in Bogra are; 12.7, 16.1, 18.3, 22.9, 25.3, 28.1, 26.4, 26.8, 26.3, 25.4, 20.6, 14.8 We can calculate, M.D(X)= M.D(me)= = = =4.500c =4.40

Quartile deviation
Quartile deviation is the difference between the 3rd quartile (Q3) and the 1st quartile (Q1) and dividing by 2. QD= For a symmetrical disn Q3 and Q1 are equidistance from the median , then meQD covers exactly 50 percent of the observation.
The Variance
The variance of the population observation x1,x2,x3,,xN commonly designed 2=

Coefficient of Variation
The coefficient of variations is computed as a ratio of the standard deviation of the disn to the mean. Hight Weight mean 40inch 10kg SD 5inch 2kg C.V 0.125 0.20
