Cardiac muscle is only found in the wall of the heart Cardiac muscle is highly resistant to fatigue because the

muscle carries a large number of mitochondria, myoglobin and a good supply of blood which gives continuous aerobic metabolism. Cardiac muscle movement is involuntary so that your heart is contracting and expanding all the time so that the heart can keep pace and the body can be given time to rest during sleep. The cardiac muscle is myogenic which means that in the heart the muscles contract by a pulse produced by a myocyte. Myosin heads are commonly known as cross-bridges. The characteristics of the cross-bridges are: it has ATP which binds the site to fit the molecules and it has a hinge at the point where it can swivel to cause the muscle to contract

Skeletal muscle is attached to bring out the movement of the various bones of the skeleton. The skeleton muscle gives the whole skeleton shape and covers the whole skeleton. They are attached to the body to stretchy tendons.

Structure: attached to bone by tendons composed of connectives tissue, skeletal muscle consists of bundles called fascicles. Function: Skeletal muscles function in pairs i.e. biceps and triceps. They work in pairs to co-ordinate movement The skeletal muscles function is to continuously maintain your posture. To hold your bones in the correct place. To prevent your joints from dislocating Skeletal muscle generates heat as a by-product from all the muscle activity and is vital to keep the bodies temperature normal.

Structure: Cardiac muscle striation has branch-like structure. Cardiac muscle is built in a way that it can easily contract and expand.

Function: The cardiac muscle functions are to help the cardiac cells. The cardiac cells contract the muscle and send the blood to the atria and ventricles. The reason the cardiac muscle has branch-like striation is because it forms a mesh which squeezes the heart chambers forcing the blood into the lungs into the entire body.

Similarities Both have striation Similar in appearance

Differences Cardiac muscle striation is branch-like Skeletal muscle is linear Cardiac muscle is involuntary control whereas the skeletal muscle is voluntary. Cardiac muscle never stops working whereas the skeletal muscle has rest periods

Similar contraction properties

Similar in appearance They both have mitochondria and use it for energy
