These draw the attention of personnel to hazards which may cause death or injury to the operator or others. Examples of use are cases of high voltage, laser emission, toxic substances, point of high temperature, etc.
Alert: These draw the attention of personnel to hazards which may cause damage to the equipment. An example of use is the case of static electricity hazard. Caution notices may also be used in the handbook to draw attention to matters that do not constitute a risk of causing damage to the equipment but where there is a possibility of seriously impairing its performance, e.g. by mishandling or gross maladjustment. Warnings and Cautions within themain text do not incorporate labels and may be in shortened form.

1 EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION
1.1 GENERAL
The TLA-9001Z GSM900 tower mounted duplex amplifier provides uplink amplification of 12dB gain. The unit is installed near the antenna at the tower top to improve the receiver sensitivity of the base station. The usage of TLA-9001Z will result in increase of successful call attempts, reduction of call drops, maximized data transmission rate, improved call quality and extended handset battery life. Quality improvements will lead to increased traffic volume and user satisfaction, hence increasing network revenue. It is recommended for use in new roll-outs to minimize base station count and upgrading existing base stations to improve signal quality and drop call performance. The system comprises of high quality band-pass filters, low noise amplifier (LNA), Bias Tee for DC supply via feeder cable, lightning protection circuitry and by-pass circuitry. TLA-9001Z is designed to be installed outdoor on towers or walls close to the antenna. The LNA bypass circuitry is activated when the DC supply is switched off or when there is a fault in the system. DC power supply to TLA-9001Z is supplied via a Bias Tee it connects between the TLA-9001Z and the BTS. Main features of TLA-9001Z are shown as below: Extends uplink cell coverage. Minimizes effects of feeder loss on uplink performance. Light weight and compact design. Low noise figure increases BTS receiver sensitivity for improved voice quality and reduced dropped call. Balanced LNA design and power failure bypass for high reliability. EMP protected with excellent MTBF. 7/16 DIN connectors for superior intermodulation performance.

BTS
As the figure shown above, the UL signals received by the service antenna of BTS are transmitted into the TLA-9001Z, filtered by RX-1 filter, then amplified by the LNA, and filtered again by RX-2 filter and finally transmitted to the BTS. The DL signals are transimitted to the TLA-9001Z first, filtered by Tx filter and finally transimitted to the service antenna. From the figure above we can see the TLA-9001Z system consists of the following components: TLA-9001Z is a low noise tower mounted amplifier (TMA) with bypass switch. TLA-8001P1, the Bias Tee /current Injector, injects DC power onto the RF cable. 12VDC power supply to the Bias Tee is typically derived from the BTS installation. The Bias Tee connects between the TLA-9001Z and the BTS. Refer to the section of Bias Tee for detailed information.

2.1 WARNINGS AND ALERTS
Radio Frequency energies There may be situations, particularly the workplace environments adjacent to high-powered RF sources, where recommended limits for safe exposure of human beings to RF energy could be exceeded. In such cases, restrictive measures or actions may be necessary to ensure the safe use of RF energy. High voltage The equipment has been designed and constructed as to prevent as far as reasonably practicable danger. Any activity, such as installation, operation and maintenance, on or near the equipment must be as far as reasonably free from danger. Where there is a risk of damage to electrical systems due to adverse weather, extreme temperatures, wet, corrosive or dirty conditions, flammable or explosive atmosphere, then the system must be suitably installed to avoid such a danger. Protective Earthing Equipment provided for the purpose of protecting individuals from electrical risk must be properly used and maintained. Handling Precautions Precausions should be taken in equipment handling activities including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, moving or holding.

2.3.6 DRIP-LOOP
Comba recommends that every horizontal cable entry to the equipment forms a 'U' before its entry to the equipment. Any accumulated water on the cable will drip down at the bottom of the loop and will not climb up to the equipment.

Ground connection The TLA-9001Z must be grounded securely. Connect a copper wire with cross section area of more than 16mm2(resistance <10 ) to the grounding terminal on the equipment chassis, and connect the other end to a protective ground (i.e. building earth point). An internationally acceptable coloring code of the ground connection wire is green/yellow. Service voltage connection The power supply from BTS is connected to the +12V Power Input Port (SMB-J Male connector) on the Bias Tee. RF signal connection ANT Port The ANT port is 7/16 DIN-Female. In TLA-9001Z, it is connected to the cable from Rx antenna of BTS. BTS Port This port is also 7/16 DIN-Female. It is connected to the Tx/Rx port of BTS.

3 COMMISSIONING
Before applying power, check that the expected voltage, current, and power levels do not violate any ratings. Double check all connections before applying power. Do not manipulate circuits or make changes with power applied. The recommended tasks before commissioning as follow: Check whether the VSWR of the ANT port is normal (the VSWR value is determined by the BTS requirements); Apply power to see whether the Power Ok LED on the Bias Tee is on (green) or off.

4 MAINTENANCE
The TLA-9001Z offers trouble free operation and generally does not need maintenance. The equipment operation status can be observed through the +12V Power Ok LED on the Bias Tee. However, annual inspection of the TLA-9001Z equipment(s) is recommended, the recommended tasks includes: Inspect whether nuts and bolts are sufficiently tightened. Check whether water proofing measures, such as silicone sealant and waterproof tape, is in good condition. Failure of the TLA-9001Z is indicated when the Power Ok LED on the Bias Tee is off. Turn off the power, check whether the connections of Bias Tee are reliable, such as BTS port, ANT port or power connector (SMB-J). After checking these connections, turn on the power to see whether the LED is on or off. If it is still off, it means that either the TMA or the Bias Tee needs to be replaced or repaired. Under this circumstance, turn off the power and replace the Bias Tee with another trouble-free Bias Tee. After the Bias Tee successfully replaced, turn on the power to see whether the LED is on or off. If it is still off, then it means the TMA needs to be replaced or repaired.

Descriptions 7/16 DIN-Male port and should be connected to the cable from TMA. 7/16 DIN-Female port and should be connected to Rx port or diversity port of BTS installation. Connected to the output port of power supply from BTS installation. The Grounding point is used to be connected to one end of a copper wire with cross section area of more than 16mm2(resistance <10 ), and the other end of the wire is connected to a protective ground (i.e. building earth point). Table 5: Connections of TLA-8001P1
The grounding point is a screw post, which is a M6 hex bolt fitted to the Bias Tee. Attach an earth wire to a solder/crimp tag before tightening this bolt. As the figure above shows, there is a Power Ok LED indicator to show whether the supply voltage is normal. LED Indicator Power-in LED Colour Green Indication On = Supply voltage is normal Off = Supply voltage is abnormal
