The Land Of Peace And Self Realisation Yog, an ancient Indian science and art, given by sage Patanjali, has 8 parts, mastering which, one meets God. It is not just physical fitness, but synchronization and harmonization of body, mind and soul with each other. For a devout Hindu, however, the seat of meditation is Rishikesh, also called "Yoga Capital Of The World". It's perhaps natural beauty and peace, that draws people to Himalayas.

YOGA IN GARHWAL HIMALAYAS Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited (GMVN) is engaged in the promotion of tourism in Garhwal Himalayas. Garhwal Himalayas is described as the Abode of Gods as the sacred shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Hemkund Sahib lie here apart from the sources of sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna. Skanda Purana, our ancient text, records- In a hundred ages of the Gods I could not tell the glories of the Himalayas. As the dew is dried up by the morning sun, so are the sins of mankind by the sight of the Himalayas. It is natural that pilgrims from India and abroad throng to pay obeisance to the deities. Here Vedas are chanted and the glacial valleys reverberate with prayers as the pilgrims share their faith with each other. There are three different kinds of pilgrimages, each consisting of five sacred spots. a. Panch Badri consists of five shrines raised to Lord Vishnu. b. Panch Kedar pays homage to Lord Shiva. c. Panch Prayag consists of the five confluences of the holy rivers. Garhwal Himalayas beckons adventure enthusiasts too with its rivers, snow-clad peaks, lakes, flora and fauna. The snow-covered slopes of Auli are ideal for snow skiing in the winters. The thrill of snow skiing can only be matched by white water rafting at Kaudiyala. An upcoming water sports resort at Asan Barrage offers water skiing, boating, rowing, canoeing and kayaking. Trekking has been a favorite activity which can be taken up practically by all age groups. There are different treks catering to different age groups round the year. The wildlife at C hila and Dhikala is a virtual feast for nature lovers. Asan Barrage is fast developing into a bird watchers paradise.

What is Yoga?

The word yoga, in Hindi pronounced as Yog, is derived from Sanskrit word yuj which means to join or unite. Yoga is an ancient Indian science and art. The practice of yoga integrates the body, mind and soul. Yoga can be practiced by all irrespective of colour, caste, creed, sex and race. The ancient seers laid down four ways by which the practitioner can attain samadhi or spiritual salvation, the goal of yoga. These are: Jnana Marg: The path of knowledge. Karma Marg: The path of action.

Karma Marg: The path of action. Bhakti Marg: The path of selfless devotion. Dhyan Marg: The path of introspection whereby pupil learns to cleanse the body, control the senses and restrains fluctuations of the mind. Dhyan Marg is clearly explained by Sage Patanjali.

Sage Patanjali
Sage Patanjali was the first person to present the ancient tradition of yoga in a systematic way. Thus he is considered the father of yoga. In his most important work- The Yog Sutras of Patanjali, he presented an eight fold path for attaining salvation. The path is called Ashtang Yog i.e. it is eight part yoga.

The Garhwal Himalayas

Even though relaxation and relief from stress are the natural outcomes of meditation, the actual goal is to remove the layers of accumulated conditioning and reveal our true self says Roy Eugene Davis, an American Kriya Yogi, who was inspired after reading "The autobiography of a yogi -by Paramahansa Yoganand. Hatha Yoga, Raj Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Mantra Yoga and Laya Yoga provide a complete system of self-transformation and self-realization. Yoga has been proven as a scientific method for curing acute and chronic diseases. When the breath wanders, the mind also is unsteady, But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath. -Hatha Yoga Pradipika YOGA, MEDITATION AND HOLISTIC LIVING The courses are designed and based on Patanjalis Ashtang Yog propounded in the Yog Sutras. The concept of Yoga is based on Shrimad Bhagawad Gita which is considered the greatest literature on yoga. Besides this the spiritual practitioners will be introduced to Yog Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Gherand Samhita. This leads to self realization and understanding the true meaning of Nirvana or Moksha, which is freedom from the cycle of births and deaths. However, there exist many misconceptions regarding the word Yoga and its practice. Proper practice of Yogasans control and regulate the endocrinal system and hence plays an important role in gaining good command of ones own feelings, especially negative feelings like anger and jealousy.
