1. Introduction This guide discusses the strategy of economic and military improvement to develop the city and its military potential for the intermediate phase and the end of the game. These guidelines are dedicated to new players or players that need to be refined slightly. Here, well not explain complicated strategies or combos, or anything about specific topics, this guide talks about a general basic strategy then as your experience grows it'll be adapted along the time. 1.1. Starting guidelines - At the first days is better to not attack to other players, the troops will be only create to get free or to defend themselves if there are attacks. - The levels of the buildings are approximated, and the various strategies proposed to follow too. - Focusing and agree with the clan your strategy its a must. -Its not recommended use the politic Pact with darkness or purchase dark units until the phase "Military Development" its complete. (described below). - The most appropriate faction to learn the basics of the game its Ronin besides Crane, but this guide can be developed with any faction. - In the first games and while in learning the game is better to not play as a ninja. The ninjutsu way to play is very complicated and should be treated in a separate guide. Its recomended that ninjutsu tasks be made by the veteran players. - The first Imperial Favors are used to call Imperial Experts and to maintain ALWAYS active the politic Imperial State. 2. Pre-release In this part of the guide well talk about the easiest way to get free from our Lord Takeshi: 2.1. Release without talents Reach 40 houses Dojo build level 1 Recruit 50 ashigarus level1 Library build level 1 Magistrate council build level 1 Request a samurai with maximum knowledge (decreasing other attributes) If you have spare time you can train your samurai to increase its knowledge Get 2000 gold, create an army, add your samurai and launch your liberation. When youre free from your lord Takeshi you can put your samurai to train his attributes again. Then follow the next phase Economic Development. 2.2. Frist Talent points In case of having talents recommend use in: 1 point to Dojo Expansion (military) 2 points to Council Expansion (politics/ninja) 3 points to Library Expansion (politics/ninja) 5 points to Scriptures (politics/ninja)

2.3. Pre-release with talents You need the talent points Council Expansion (1) and Dojo Expansion (1) Reach 20 houses Put 130-150 villagers to work in the collection of rice, at this time is more appropriate to ignore the wooden pickup or construction before the release. You need 3.000 rice units to hire 50 ashigarus. Request a samurai with maximum knowledge (decreasing other attributes) If you have spare time you can train your samurai to increase its knowledge Recruit 50 ashigarus level 1 Get 2000 gold, create an army, add your samurai and launch your liberation. When youre free from your lord Takeshi you can put your samurai to train his attributes again. Then follow the next phase Economic Development. 2.4. Especial winter games Some games have rule called winter that forbidden to attack during an extensive period of time. In case you cant get free before the winter its better to create the maximum number of houses and upgrade the warehouse to level 2 during the winter period, and create your army when it finishes. 3. Economic Development 3.1. Building strategy At this stage the buildings are constructed according to the resources gained, sometimes you have to keep many constructions at a same time, but not always. - Market level 1 (to build the mine and to get some gold) - Mine level 2 (to produce iron) - Circle of the wise level (to activate the politic Seasonal Workers) - Reach 50 houses - Magistrate council level 5/6 (to call an Imperial expert Economics* and to use the politics Gempukku and Emerald champion) - Circle of the wise level 5 (to activate the politic Extra Seasonal Workers) - Reach 100 houses - Magistrate council level 10 (to call an Imperial expert Politics* and to use the politic Chamber assistance and the skill Population Leader) - Circle of the wise level 10 (to activate the politic Regional Seasonal Workers) - Reach 150 houses - Library level 5 (to upgrade your samurai attributes) - Market level 12 (to get the samurai skill Civil Leader) - Harbor level 5/10 (to get some resources) - Watchtower level 30 (to activate Double Guards politic) - Library level 13 (to get the samurai skill Faction Leader and the politic Power of the populace) - Dojo level 5 (to use the politic Search Volunteers, activated with a charisma-100 samurai) - Reach 300 houses - Market level 25 - Harbor level 30

3.2. Economic Guidelines - The warehouse, farms, fields and castle will be build based on the needs (Normal is to get to warehouse 10, fields 40, farms 50 and castle 10). - You have to rotate the politics Investment and Great investment always with 50.000 (or minimum 40.000) units of gold, to extract maximum benefit. - It's important to build the gambling house at 2 in order to bet up to 10.000 in tournaments. - Its a must to store some gold to buy areas, its usual to reach the 35.000-40.000 gold payments to build areas. - To free the manageable amount of your market its better to send iron purchased by crafts or produced. 3.3. Crafts We use crafts to profit the materials we have for create materials we lack. The crafts listed below are the most efficient: - If we need Gold: Kimonos - If we need meat and Gold: Stone Lamps - If you need Wood and Iron: Warrior Statues - If we need Honor: Origami Ornaments - If we are dark: Dark Idols. 3.4. Samurai strategy Samurai are one of the most important parts of the game. Their skills and their attributes are very large bonuses that will increase the potential of your city. - The first samurai we create its the independence one, itll have the maximum knowledge and the rest of attributes must be 0. On the next days this samurai must upgrade his attributes to 24 o 32. If you are an honored player one of the best ways is to reach full-24 or ful-32 attributes, then use emerald champion politic and personnel sacrifice to reach 100 in charisma (for Search Volunteers) or 100 in knowledge (for Taking care of the production or Improve the production). - When we reach the 4th level of Magistrate council well use every day the politic Gempukku to create powerful samurai using it. These samurai must be trained in all attributes and they will reach full-37 or full-40 to be the future magistrates and their development can be seen on the samurai strategy of the military part. - At this part you have to save 20 imperial favors to call an imperial expert of Economy when you reach Magistrate council level 6 , you have to teach him other economic skills and apply to him the Emerald champion politic. - On the second week youll receive 20 imperial favors more. These ones must be spent to call a second imperial expert, on Politics when your magistrate council reaches level 9 or 10. This samurai will appear full-40/42 then you have to apply the Personnel sacrifice in charisma (to get 100), its ideal that the rest of attributes reach 24 (not more) and last use Emerald champion with him. It is important to teach to this samurai the skill "Population Leader."

4. Military Development Once you have and stable economic base comes the time to develop your strategy to attack. At this point the obvious is that youre an honorable player, without any troops, or with some troops done along the game. This part of the strategy its easy consists to reach at least 15 or 20 levels in the buildings below, the easiest way to reach it is being a Ronin (but anyway this guide is written to be played with any faction). Before explaining this, it is better that you read the quick city-guide, which shows up everything we've exposed on the guide. In other hand during the military development its a must to continue upgrading the harbor, market and other economic buildings. 4.1. Building strategy The idea is based on building one of the following options, and specialize in a kind of troops: - 3 buildings at least level 15 (ex. Dojo, Blacksmith and Academy) - 2 buildings at least level 20 (for example Stable and Archery) - 1 building at more than 30 (ex. Temple) Here you have a list of optimal strategies of all factions and the buildings that need: Crane: Elite Archers (Archery and Academy) Kenshishen (Acad. and Blacksmith) Ninja (Ninja Dojo and rooms) Heavy riders (Stable and Blacksmith) Tiger: Veterans (Academy and Dojo) Dark units (Temple and Dark Shrine) Archer riders (Stable and Archery) Basic infantry (Dojo and Blacksmith) Leopard: Berserkers (Blacksmith and Acad.) Vanguard (Stable and Academy) Basic infantry (Dojo and Blacksmith) Dark units (Temple and Dark Shrine) Ronin: Raiders (Academy and Dojo) Ashigarus (Acad., Blacksmith and Dojo) Slingers (Archery, Academy) Ashigaru with rifle (Blacksmith) Dragon: Dragons (Academy and Stable) Magic units (Temple) Monks (Academy and Dojo), Nature shus (Academy and Temple) Snake: Dark units (Temple and Dark Shrine) Tengus (Blacksmith and Temple) Ninja (Ninja Dojo and rooms) Assasins (Acad. and Murders room)

Jigoku: Jigoku shugenjas (Temple and Dark Shrine) Tengus (Blacksmith and Temple) Arcane Tengus (Academy and Temple) Infected goblins (Academy and Dark Shrine)

4.2. Samurai strategy At this time the samurai you have must be created using the politic Gempukku, and trained to full-37/40. Its a must to have all the training spots filled of samurai training their attributes. To get a faster training its a must use the politic Name Sensei with a Samurai with a high attribute to teach the others. Youve to know how to use the politic Mentor (only available for the honored players and reaching level 10 of magistrate council) to teach to the new samurai a lot of skills every time. The skills have an specific color for each magistrate and generals, you must have to teach the correct skills to the samurai who needs it. As you'll see there are different ways to use the politics Personnel sacrifice and Emerald champion everything based if you want a more balanced magistrate (all the attributes to 68) or at least one attribute to 100. Now well explain how to use these two politics: Personnel Sacrifice: - The best profit to use it is to have a 100 charisma magister of politic . - If you dont have any magister of politic your samurai should be full-46 to get an attribute to 100. - If you have a 100-charisma magister of politic your samurai needs to be full-40 to get 100. - If you wanna reach 100, but youll use on this samurai later the politic Emerald champion while you have a 100-charisma magister your samurai only needs to be full-37, then your samurai will get 95 to one attribute. It will be 100 when you convert him to Emerald champion. Emerald champion: - Its better to use this politic when you have a 100 charisma magister of politic . - The break numbers of this skill effective are: 24, 49, 74; your samurai will up to 41, 68 and 87. If your samurai goes up of break numbers it has to reach 30, 55 and 81 to get the same effective as the break numbers. - If you have planned to play with dark units, you should have done first all the samurai who need them to be Emerald champion, because you have to remember that you can use this politic only if you have positive honor. Magisters and generals Economy: (balanced) Up to full-49 and emerald champion. Economy: (100 charisma) Up to full-37, sacrifice on charisma, get full-49 and upgrade to emerald champion. Politics: (100 charisma) Up to full-37, sacrifice on charisma, get full-49 and upgrade to emerald champion. Military: (100 reasoning) Up to full-37, sacrifice on reasoning, get full-49 and upgrade to emerald champion. Ninjutsu: (100 cunning) Up to full-37, sacrifice on cunning, get full-49 and upgrade to emerald champion. Powerful General: (100 knowledge) Get full-37, sacrifice in knowledge, get full-49 and upgrade to emerald champion. Tough General: (100 cunning) Up to full -37, sacrifice on cunning, get full-49 and upgrade to emerald champion.

- Samurai full-92 in advanced stages of the game: reach lvl.23 of Magistrate council to call for an Imperial expert, then convert him to Emerald champion and Jade champion for a full-92 and use Mentor to teach him the skills. - Seeker: Samurai with 100 charisma to use the politics Search Volunteers, Search Infantry and Search Cavalry. - Producer: Samurai with 100 knowledge to use the politics Take care and Improve Production. - Tactical ninja: Samurai with 100 cunning to use the politic Tactical Ninja. 4.3. Military Guidelines - Focusing: Make a single troop type but doing it in large quantities. (Except when the dynamics involves mixing units: Ashigarus+Ashigaru Leaders, Magic units, Cavalry mix...) - Complement: Join several different types of army in your clan to create big associations of different kinds of players and armies. - Coordinate: Abusing clan messages especially for defense and attack orders. Exploit the benefits of Imperial manager over other expenses of favors like Kamis or Onis. - Support: Although it is often difficult, it is important to defend each other, giving always priority to keep clan members free. - Timing: Check the time is important because the game is on real time and its difficult to coordinate actions between players, resources, armies, politics... - Exploit: It is important to exploit your resources when you create as maintains troops. Its a must to optimize the expenses of imperial favors. - Kamis / Onis: These powerful forces are only useful when accompanied by a good army and used only for experienced players. So I do not recommend the purchase unless you are an experienced player. 4.4. Basic military strategies - Defensive Politics: Wartime, Good relationship, Double guards are a must to get your city well defended. A military magister with good charisma can help you to defend your city. - Escorts: Your Samurai are very important for you and your enemies ninjas will try to assassinate them. The best way to protect your samurai is hiring escorts, one easy rule to know how many escorts you need is to use 60 escorts for each week played on the game after the first one (1st:0, 2nd:60, 3rd:120, 4th:180, 5th:240, 6th:300...). The most important samurai to protect are your magisters and your active generals, the samurai used in politics may need escorts too. - Search and promote: Using this politics with some 100-charmisma samurai to get units and then promoting will provide you a large army. You can combine this with Mercenaries to get better ones. If you are Ronin one of the easiest tactics on this game is Searching Ashigarus and Bushis, promote them and accompanied by Ashigaru Leaders and Generals. - Combinate Bonus: Get a good samurai with the correct skills and the correct attributes can get to your army great increase o damage. For example if you are Ronin using ashigarus, leaders, generals and a good samurai youll receive: Ronin Bonus, Leader Bonus, General Bonus, Exemplary Warrior, Popular Support and Divine Fury (also Wartime if you are a defender).

- Fight the darkness: If you play against Dark units the politic Sacred battlefield its very important. Therere some units which have bonuses to deal damage to dark units, and the samurai skill Divine Fury will give to your basic units an extra damage against dark units. - Moral and fatigue: This two status are very important in a battle. If your army has a high moral will do more damage (you can upgrade your moral wining battles or using the politics Promise of Power, Alliance is Strength). If your army has a lot of fatigue will deal less damage. 5. Credits This guide has been written by Ynthem (player of the game Shogun's Fate) during the month of February 2011.
