Description Yaw Drives

Swing gears for mobile equipment such as excavators and cranes have been part of our supply range for decades now. Technological experience gained with these gears in the 80s formed the development basis for yaw drives needed for optimum horizontal nacelle control. The drive consists of a compact planetary gear unit equipped with output pinion and electric motor. The planetary gearbox has four planet gear stages offering high transmission ratios for highly sensitive rotational movements. The steadily increasing size of the nacelles makes of course high torque rates necessary. These can be achieved by arranging a certain number of drives spaced around the yaw bearing. Presently, up to 10 gearboxes may be employed for the yaw control system.

Pitch Drives
Pitch drives are used for the adjustment of the rotor blades. The efficiency of a wind turbine is not least dependent on an optimal blade position to suit the respective wind force. The space-saving drive comprises a two- or three-stage planetary gearbox - which, upon request, can be combined with a bevel gear stage - as well as an output pinion and an electric motor. Since electromechanical pitch drives are continuously rotating together with the rotor hub they are provided with special seal systems. A team of development, design and sales engineers makes sure customer wishes are quickly translated into technically and economically sound solutions. Most advanced computer software is used to assist in gearing design and component optimization activities. Testing of this gearbox series is effected, inter alia, in our inhouse cold chamber. The information provided in this bulletin is intended to aid the preselection of a suitable planetary gearbox. More in-depth assistance even in the project stage is available from our technical sales division.

Electric Motors
The gearbox design enables the direct attachment of a suitable powerful electric motor which may be included in the scope of supply on request.

Weights, Dimensions
The weights indicated are to be understood as average values. The figures and dimensions are not strictly obligatory. We reserve the right to implement technical modifications aimed at improving our products.

Scope of Supply
Rexroth planetary gear units of type MOBILEX are ready-toinstall and comprise the oil filling. Surfaces of external flanges, shaft ends and attachment faces are preserved with Tectyl 502 C.

Other Notes
Statutory requirements stipulate that all rotating components must be provided with touch guards. All safety regulations prescribed for the relevant mounting locations must be observed. Commissioning and maintenance of the gear units to be in line with the instructions provided in our operating manual.
