INTRODUCTION: Employee engagement, also called worker engagement, is a business management concept.

An "engaged employee" is one who is fully involved in, and enthusiastic about their work, and thus will act in a way that furthers their organization's interests. According to Scarlett Surveys, "Employee Engagement is a measurable degree of an employee's positive or negative emotional attachment to their job, colleagues and organization which profoundly influences their willingness to learn and perform at work". Thus engagement is distinctively different from employee satisfaction, motivation and organizational culture.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IN VODAFONE: Like all other companies VODAFONE also has a numerous number of employee engagement plans. Employee engagement starts from the very 1st day after the recruitment of the employee. The main aim of employee engagement is to retain the employees in that particular organization by providing them with different schemes. Vodafone also has a number of plans of employee engagement. Some of them are as follows:

Welcoming the newly recruited workforce: Vodafone welcomes the newly recruited employees by giving them a bouquet, rule book on their very 1st day of work which helps in creating a good impression of the organization. Collaboration with reputed banks : Vodafone has collaborations with HDFC,CITY bank for maintaining the salary account of the employees. The employees are provided with a zero balance savings account in one of these banks. All the arrangements are done by the company itself if they are provided with proper documents.

Own cafeteria: Vodafone has its own cafeteria in the office premises which provides good quality healthy food in a cheap rate. The employees by consuming the same stays fit and fine which also helps the organization by low absenteeism rate. Gift Hampers: The organization motivates the employees by giving them gift hampers based on their performance. Follows HSW: Vodafone follows HSW rule (HEALTH, SAFETY and WELL BEING) which indirectly helps in retaining the employees effectively. Celebrations: Vodafone not only look after entertainment of the employees only but also look after their familys by making them participating in different celebrations. E.G- Mothers day. Apart from this the employees also gets a chance to participate in different festivals like : HOLI: VODAFONE has special floors for this kind of festivals. DURGA PUJA: The employees have to wear traditional clothes on this occasion to get the feel of it in the office only. KALI PUJA: The employees have to wear gorgeous clothes during this special festival. POILA BOISAKH: There is POT PAINTING competition on this very particular day.

Indoor games: Vodafone organizes indoor games like ATAKSHARI to give the employees a break from their tight schedule of work.

Friday Quiz: Each employee receives an email on every Friday in their mail box at 9 a.m having a question on GK. The winner is decided on the basis of first come first serve along with the right answer and rewarded accordingly.

Seasonal games: Vodafone organizes seasonal games like cricket (in December), tennis and many more to keep the employees active in outdoor games. L & D (Learning and Development): The employees have to undergo a training to fit the organization through learning and development. After this training they become much more confident regarding their part of work which in result gives a better output. Casual dress: The employees have to wear formal dress from Monday-Thursday. On Friday they are permitted to come in casuals to have different feelings than a regular office day. Sometime there is a dress code announced for a particular day which gives a feeling of a professional with a difference and also helps in attracting the attention of the employees of other companies.

R & R - (SUPERSTAR): Vodafone has the concept of SUPERSTAR which chooses a particular employee to be rewarded according to his/her performance which indirectly motivates the employees to give their best shot for recognition. The winner gets a certificate and some points which are redeemed to get a gift hamper.

CONCLUSION: This are some of the techniques that this telecom giant uses to retain the employees as well as attracting the new ones who are seeking a position to utilize their skills and abilities in the corporate field that offers professional growth while being resourceful, innovative and flexible.
