A Halal hospital in Chennai Submitted by admin7 on 1 June 2012 - 4:49pm Indian MuslimScience/Health By Mumtaz Alam Falahi, TwoCircles.

net, Halal hospital. Sound strange? Could be because the word Halal generally precede s food items or can go with hotels and restaurants, at least in our part of the world. But there has come up now a Halal hospital here. Global Health City, Chen nai is said to be the first hospital in India to achieve Halal certification. A world class tertiary multi super specialty hospital, Global Health City has re ceived the Halal certification for its hospital services by Halal India an indep endent Halal certification body registered with government of India and recogniz ed by IHIA (International Halal Integrity Alliance, Malaysia), a partner of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). The certificate of being Halal (permitted in Islam), hope owners of the hospital , will further help in boosting medical value travel from Muslim countries parti cularly from SAARC, Middle East, North Africa and South East Asian Region which constitutes around 75 percent share of patient traffic to the hospital. Dr. K. Ravindranath, Chairman & MD, Global Hospitals Group, said With about two b illion Muslims worldwide and a major number of international health travellers c oming to Global Health City from the Islamic nations, we see Halal Certification as a form of approval that boosts our patients trust and confidence in our range of hospital services. To earn the certification, Global Health City had to meet strict Islamic guidelines dealing with hygiene & dietary regulations of global standards. TCN contacted Halal India to know how they check that food items (for example me at) provided there are Halal, and what kind of items/services covered by the Hal al certificate. On whether the Halal certification to Global Health City hospital cover only foo d or other services as well, like medicines and other treatments, Mohammad Noman , General Manager (operations), Halal India said: Halal Friendly Medical Tourism services include Food, Prayer Hall, Qibla Direction mark, Payer mate, copies of Quran, for woman patients woman doctors appointments (based on request). These services are provided at the Chennai hospital also. The hospital provides a prayer room and holds Friday prayers also. Besides, there are customized cuisi ne and Arabic TV channels in the patient rooms. On medicines, he said: Still this market is not matured in India unlike other cou ntries like Malaysia, Singapore. We need to educate Muslims to seek Halal Certif ied medicines in future (Lot of capsules in India made with gluten (Pig or Beef) . How do you check that meat, for example, served at the hospital is Halal? We do t he site audit and ensure that meat supplier MUST follow the Shariah Compliance b ased on Malaysian Standards. (Halal India got approval from Malaysian Govt to ad opt Malaysian Standards). Also Butcher must be practicing Muslim and undergo Hal al Indias one day training and obtain the name batch and certifications. Animals for food are kept in very inhuman condition at slaughterhouse or butcher s home in most parts of India. Does the Halal hospital provide some good facility to the animals? Mr. Noman said we follow the Malaysian Standards and Practice i n this regard. Mohamed Jinna, CEO, Halal India stated We have great heritage for service and hos pitality in India which also signifies that we can take good care of patients. T

he state of art technologies available in medical care is just perfect for overs eas patients. All we need to do is understand their culture and custom so that w e accommodate them well and make them feel truly at home This way we can respect their values and belief and at the same time cater to thi s niche market in India, he further added. Global Health City, Chennai is a 500-bed super specialty tertiary care facility, with a capacity to expand to 1000 beds. A Halal hospital in Chennai Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on 2 June 2012 - 9:56am. It is interesting to read an article about a hospital in Chennai as "Halal Hospi tal", and the way the hospital is spoken is nothing but a commercial gimmick and TCN has fallen prey. Chennai has become a mecca for multi-superficiality hospit als with most modern gadgets, more than dozen hospitals. Those latest medical equ ipments installed in most developed countries just as UK, and USA,are found to a n easy accessibility in Chennai, and in most affordable cost, even for most compl icated conditions. One can find patients from USA,Middle Eastern Countries becau se of efficacy of treatment and low cost too. Strangely,to read about a hospital as "Halal Hospital",what TCN has presented is something ridiculous. Every super specialty hospital has modern kitchen neat an d hygiene atmosphere,be it children hospital or ophthalmic hospital, the norms o f the kitchen are strictly adhered. As far the religion is concerned, a pioneeri ng multi-super-speciality hospital is very liberal in providing worshiping place for all say Muslims,Hindus and Christians.Interestingly most such hospitals are located very close to mosques for congregational prayers. All sheep, goats etc. are slaughtered under "Halal" condition, and each animal is certified Health and Sanitary Department,by the Corporation of Chennai as soon as slaughtered. 99 pe r cent of butchers are Muslims. Why TCN has not probed, before venturing such a medical article; the type of trea tments and kinds medicines involved. For example in severe diabetes, the pig ins ulin known as pork or porcelain insulin till recently had been in use, to save t he life insulin dependent patient. For more reliable study, and authentic inform ation on such type of insulin the following links will serve better. Perhaps thi s article on "Halal Hospital" is an inadvertent attempt, since TCN has its own v alue and reputation.
