Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; Last week my father would have been 90 years old. I still miss him and every time I go into his old machine shop or I bust a knuckle turning a wrench, I think of him. The older I get, the more I realize I inherited, or embraced, many of his characteristics. (Does this mean I can blame him for all my bad traits?) But when I called my mom last week on his birthday, I realized that she misses him even more than I do. After 63 years of marriage together, ones life is somehow welded to the other in a very unique way. Each of our fathers, either living or deceased, in some way helped to fashion us. Sometimes those have been loving ways; sometimes they have been incredibly painful for us. But on this Fathers Day, may we be at peace with our fathers, as well as the One who made us all. Together in Christ;

Fr. Steve Pastor

Outreach & Support

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is asked about the greatest commandment and we are all familiar with his response: "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first commandment and the second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments." (Mathew 22:36-40) The entire Society of St. Vincent de Paul is built upon these two commandments. HELP US HELP OTHERS We ask all Catholics pastors, catechists, educators, and parishioners to join us in rethinking this difficult issue (capital punishment) and committing ourselves to pursuing justice without vengeance. With our Holy Father, we seek to build a society so committed to human life that it will not sanction the killing of any human person. (US Catholic Bishops, Responsibility, Rehabilitation and Restoration, 2009 ). Join the Catholic Social Justice Ministry to advocate for the replacement of the death penalty with life without the possibility of parole. Our next meeting is September 11, 2012, 7:00 PM, in the Church Meeting Room.

SPECIAL EVENING WITH FR. CHRIS HEATH Parishioners and friends please join us for our monthly dinner and meeting on June 18, 2012 following the 5:30 P.m. Mass at St. Edward the Confessor. Our guest speaker will be Reverend Chris Heath, parochial vicar at St. Edward. Please email jderitis@cox.net or call Joe at 7166525 to RSVP for the meeting and dinner. A $10 per person donation is requested.

Donated Items Needed for Silent Auction The Knights of Columbus need items donated for their Silent Auction that will take place at their Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012. Items needed are sport, entertainment, religious, or gift items, collectables, or tickets that are in mint condition. Please contact Laszlo Hegedus at 510-8795.

The perfect way to give back without a huge time commitment !There are many folks who need a ride to Mass. Faith in Action offers rides, assistance with shopping for groceries and other chores that we all take for granted. If you have a seat available in your car when you come to Mass or some spare time to assist someone with these tasks, call Christe Roknich at 949-240-5892 or email Christe@roknich.com

Christ Caring for People through People Next Sunday we will be commissioning twelve new Stephen Ministers at the 9:00 am Mass. Come celebrate with us; and offer them your prayer and support as they begin their new role. The Stephen Ministers here at St. Edward are care givers; we are trained to provide one-on-one care to our parish members that are in need of a special person to listen and share their burden. For confidential inquiries, contact us at (949)496-1307 x 2503 or email us at stephenministry@stedward.com.

HANDI-KNIGHTS The Handi-Knights is a program to help those in our parish and the community with Household repairs that they are unable to do because of physical or financial limitations. If anyone has the need for help call Paul Prendiville 584-4149.

"A REAL CHILD" In a society which continues to have a legal and cultural blind spot for the unborn, many suffer from the illusion that miscarriage doesnt grieve a parent as much as the loss of, well, a real child. And that is precisely what hurts so much. We can never console someone in grief if we imply, even remotely, that the person they lost wasnt real. Dr. Byron Calhoun, President of the American Association of Pro-life Ob-Gyns, has observed that prior to 1970, the loss of a child before or during birth was often treated in medical literature as a non-event, but that now there is a growing awareness of the grief associated with such loss. In fact, Dr. Calhoun has developed a hospice program for unborn children. Life News Page 6

The Annual 4th of July picnic on the bluff is coming. Join the fun on the bluff at St. Edward.! Bring your picnic, chairs and blankets, you will need them, once the sun goes down it gets cold. We will provide the best view around, if the weather cooperates, grills (for your cooking convenience), cookies, coffee and great music. Gather about 6 P.M. and stay for the firework display at 9 P.M.

Late Thursday afternoon we received notification from one of our banking partners that there was a script error in financial reporting via the bank. The banking partner used Yapstone in the verbiage instead of ParishPay in error, this was not intentional. Friday morning we began alerting all parishioners who were affected by this script error and this week, parishes will be notified of this error as well. Moving forward ALL financial scripts will read ParishPay not Yapstone it was not our intention to present the parent company on the financial statements. Thus far emailed letters have been sent to parishioners and mailed letters will be going out this week to those who do not have an email address pending.

Family, Faith & Prayer

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ There Is No Magical Prescription For Entering Into Heaven "When Christ our Lord says that whoever receives His Body and His Blood has eternal life, He is not giving a magical prescription for entering into heaven. The meaning of His words is much deeper. Habitually passive reception of Holy Communion is not enough to be saved." S.C. Biela, Open Wide the Door to Christ, page 60 Join the Families of Nazareth formation group every Wednesday for 1 hour at 1:00 P.M. in the church cry room to help live out our call to holiness in the midst of the very real challenges of family life today.

Summer is a great time to get involved with our Insight Youth Ministry program. Please join us Wednesday evenings starting with the 5:30 p.m. Mass followed by a night of fun, food, friends, and faith at Doheny State beach. Bring money for food and download a permission slip at insight.stedward.com if you would like for us to provide transportation for you to Doheny after Mass. Please join us after the 5:30 p.m. Mass every Tuesday to pray for peace. Our Lady of Fatima in 1917 asked for prayers and rosaries to obtain peace for the world. Now, more then ever we must respond to Our Blessed Mothers urgent call. STRIVE TO BE A SAINT! Come meet with Idente Missionaries and learn how you can answer our Heavenly Father's call to "Be holy, as I, your Father, am holy."(Mt 5:48) We meet first Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. For ages 18 - 120. Call John De Gree at 714-623-6104 for more information.

"Sing praise to our God, sing praise." -Psalm 47 We praise god in song, contemplative prayer and intercessory prayer. As a charismatic prayer group we are praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit for St Edwards Church this Pentecost.. We meet Wednesday mornings after 8:15 am mass in the church cry room.

Who can use NFP? Any married couple can use NFP! A woman need not have "regular cycles." NFP education helps couples to fully understand their combined fertility, thereby helping them either to achieve or postpone pregnancy. The key to successful use of NFP is cooperation, shared commitment, and communication between husband and wife. Learn More Here: http://www.usccb.org/issues-andaction/marriage-and-family/natural-family-planning/whatis-nfp/ THE ADORATION SOCIETY INVITES YOU To make a special commitment to come and spend one hour a month (or every other week) as a People of God on the 1st. and/or 3rd.
