DO YOU KNOW ?
What three things show your honesty? How do you feel when somebody isnt being honest? Why is it important to be an honest person? Write three classroom rules that help everyone to be honest.

Lets read
Honesty is truthfulness in words and deeds. An honest person is upright and sincere in everything. He does not cheat or steal. Such persons are liked by all and honesty is always rewarded. A dishonest person is not liked by anybody and has to suffer. Here is a story about two wood - cutters one of whom was honest and the other dishonest.

Once, there was a wood cutter. He was poor but very honest. He went to the forest every morning to cut wood. Then he went to the market to sell that wood. It didnt bring him much money. But, he was satisfied with what he got.

One day, he was cutting a branch on the river bank when his axe slipped from his hand and fell into the river. He tried his best to find it but was not successful. This made him very sad. He sat down on the bank and began to cry.

There was a good fairy that lived in that river. She heard him crying and came out of the water. Why are you crying? Can I do anything for you? she asked.

The wood cutter told her about the loss of his axe.

The fairy dived into the river and soon came up with a golden axe. Is this your axe? She asked. The wood cutter shook his head and said it wasnt.

The fairy dived into the river again and this time came up with a silver axe. But the wood cutter shook his head again and said, This isnt mine. Mine was an iron axe.

The fairy dived into the river a third time and came up with the woodcutters iron axe. He was overjoyed. He shouted, Yes, this axe is mine. It is mine .

The fairy was so pleased with his honesty that she gave him all the three axes.

Soon, the news of the wood cutter and his three axes spread throughout the village. A dishonest neighbor of his village made a plan to get a golden axe for himself. He went to the river-bank. He climbed up a tree and started cutting a branch. Then he let his axe drop into the river and began to cry. Soon, the fairy came up and asked him why he was crying. He told her about the loss of his axe. The fairy dived into the river and brought out a golden axe. Is this your axe? she asked

the man nodded his head and said, Yes it is mine. The fairy was angry at his dishonesty. She dived into the river with the axe and did not come up again. The dishonest wood-cutter went back home disappointed. His dishonesty cost him even his own iron axe.

This story teaches us that honesty is the best policy. The honest wood-cutter got back his own axe as well as a golden and a silver one. His dishonest neighbor lost even his own axe.
