Our treasury is healthy. According to Dixie Lowin, the bank balance is $1506.04. Membership dues will remain at $20 for an individual and $30 for a couple. The new web site, thanks to Sandra Weber, is up and running, and she continues to make improvements to it. And Richard Yehl has agreed to continue on as president in the new program year. Competition Results Our own Ansel Adams, in the person of John Lowin, deservedly earned most honors in our end of year competition, but the general quality level of the images in competition was certainly high. Due to difficulty in securing outside judges, we resorted to self judging, and that worked out well. In the category of digital color, John Lowin won photo of the year for Monument Valley Vista. He also won the Casper award for proficiency. Honorable mention awards went to John for Monument Valley Formation, and Portland Headlight, and to Kathy Braun for Early Harbor Light. In the category of digital nature, John made a clean sweep. He won the Grote Award for Photo of the Year for Sandhill Crane Taking Off, and Honorable mentions for House wren, Frog, and Woodland Mushrooms. All Those wins gave him the Pagel Award for proficiency. In the category of digital photojournalism, Richard Yehl won photo of the year award for Tight Pattern. Honorable mention awards went to Jerry Harders for Tumbling a Steer, Harness Racing, and Making a Big Splash. Jerry won the proficiency award in the pj digital category. In the color print category, John Lowin won photo of the year for Cardinal, and the proficiency award. Honorable mentions went to Sandra Weber for Trouble, and to John for Tower of the Sky and Sentinels. In the monochrome print category John Lowin won photo of the award (the Laatsch award) for Ostrich, and he also won the proficiency award (the Langland award). Honorable mentions went to John for Strassburg Engineer, Sandra Weber for Rough Life, and Bert Hartinger for Plant. In the Photojournalism print category, Jerry Harders from photo of the year award for Gotcha, and the proficiency award. Honorable mentions went to Ruth Baer for Mirror Wagon, Jerry for Coming Around the Bend, and Bert Hartinger for Artist at Work.

Program Schedule for 2012-2013 Starting with the suggestions made at our business meeting, a planning committee consisting of Richard Yehl, Bert Hartinger, Sandra and John Weber, and Pauline Beck, met at the Weber house, to decide on programs for the coming year. Here is what the committee came up with. Sep. 6. Our regular meeting will start at 7 as usual, but at 6:30 Richard will be available to talk to anyone interested in digital photography basics, that is, what beginners might want to know in order to get started. For the regular meeting starting at 7, bring in six images taken during the summer break, either digital, print, or slide. Oct. 4. We will try to get a speaker on the subject of composition. Richard will ask Bill Wood if he would present on that subject. Then we will discuss how to critique images. Nov. 1. Bring in four images just as they were taken plus the same four images after they have been edited or manipulated, and be ready to explain just what you did in the editing process and why. Then we will discuss ways of sharing images among club members to obtain critiques. Sandra suggests using Flickr to do this and will explain how. Dec. 6. Our Christmas party will be in the Conference room as usual and start at 6 for socializing. Bring in a selection of holiday or winter images. Most important, bring in a dish to share and drinks of your choice. Jan. 3. We will have set ups for still life photography, so bring in your cameras and tripods. Also bring in three images to be intensely critiqued. Feb. 7. Bring in 10 images of loved ones, be they persons, or things. We did this last year and enjoyed it so we will do it again. Mar. 7. Bring in a selection of images taken during club outings. Also bring in your suggestions for programs and activities to be discussed at the business meeting in April.

Apr. 4. This is our business meeting night, and a time to discuss the program suggestions submitted at the March meeting. Also, bring in the images you will submit in the year end competition. May 2. This is our annual competition night. Get there at early at 6pm. Outings Two outings are already planned for the summer, and we are open to suggestions of other places to go as a camera club. Mark the dates July 7 and July 21. On July 7 we will go to Oshkosh to see an Ansel Adams exhibition at the Paine Art Museum. The Art Museum gardens there are an added attraction. Meet at the south parking lot on Watertown Plank Road at 8:30 am, and we will figure out car pooling from there. On July 21 we will take the Amtrack railroad to Chicago to visit the Museum of Contemporary Photography. Get down to the Milwaukee Depot by 7:30 in order to purchase your train ticket, as the train leaves at 8:05. Arrival time in Chicago is 9:34, and coming back we have a choice of either 3:15 or 5:08 departure times. For seniors 62 and older the round trip ticket costs $39.10, and for younger persons $46.00. PSA News Kathy Braun, APSA, PPSA, gets to add FPSA after her name. This fellowship honors her for all the work she has done for PSA, most notably in connection with the Youth Showcase. Tony Oberbrunner was a winner in the quarterly photojournalism Dec. 2011 competition with a first place win in the PJ-General (Basic) division. His winner was titled Big Mouth.

Picnic Time July 19 Kathy Braun will host the picnic again at her house at 300 Lake Shore Road, Grafton, Wisconsin. To get there from Milwaukee take I43 north, exit on the Cedarburg exit (no. 89) and turn east. Follow Highway C towards the lake. When the road turns north go another one half mile to her home, just south of the Octagonal Barn. Come as early as 4:30 to socialize. Bring your camera, beverages of your choice, and a dish to pass around. Be prepared to have a good time. Health Update The good news is that Mary Desens knee surgery was successful, and that John Lowin made a good recovery from pneumonia.
