Notes to the Editor: HSPA+ is a natural evolution of HSPA comprising a set of HSPA enhancements defined in 3GPP beyond Release 6 (R6). It enhances the mobile broadband experience by offering significantly increased data rates, increased capacity and more efficiency including voice evolution. The high-speed HSPA+ data call at CeBIT was made using a more efficient 64QAM modulation rate and two 5 MHz carriers simultaneously for one data connection, based on a technically advanced Dual Cell HSDPA solution The demonstration was carried out using Nokia Siemens Networks commercial Flexi Multiradio Base Station and USB modems using Qualcomms MDM8220 chipset. Operators can enjoy improved bandwidth and capacity with HSPA+ using Nokia Siemens Networks solution comprising its software definable Flexi Multiradio Base Station that supports 42 Mbps calls while at the same time enabling further HSPA+ evolution to much higher speeds via a simple software upgrade.
