Bank of Kigali receives the award Best East African Bank 2012 by the African Banker Magazine Bank of Kigali (the Bank), the largest bank in Rwanda by market share of total assets, loans, deposits and shareholders funds, has announced today that it has been recognised as the Best East African Bank 2012 at the 6 th Annual African Banker Awards. The annual awards, which reward outstanding talent and achievement in Africas financial sector, were held under the patronage of The African Development Bank, which held its Annual General Meeting on 30th May 2012 in Arusha, Tanzania. This award goes to a Bank operating either across a specific region or in one country within a region. The winner of the award in a bank that is seen to have excelled in the banking industry in that region by reaching out to new customers, offering new services, adopting inclusiveness by bringing the unbanked into the banking space, made use of new technologies and contributed to a stronger financial sector. Bank of Kigali was selected having demonstrated strong credentials across its range of activities and played an active role in driving economic growth in Rwanda and the region. Launched in 2007, the African Banker is the only pan-African magazine dedicated to banking in the continent. It reflects Africas rapidly growing finance and banking sectors and is published in French and in English to comprehensively cover the entire continent. In line with its commitment to banking in Africa, African Banker organises the African Banker Awards to reward the people and financial institutions that are making a big impact on improving the banking industry in Africa. I am delighted with the award and recognition by the African Banker. Our Bank has shown market leadership in Rwanda by focussing on banking the unbanked and building a ubiquitous retail footprint while at the same time financing large projects that are changing the landscape of Rwanda as a result of our large capital base. Through the Initial Public Offering in 2011, the Bank became a truly international and regional player through the diversity of the shareholders, commented James Gatera, Chief Executive Officer.
