Objective

Overall objective

To improve energy supply management in targete islands To achieve lower costs of delivered electricity with less environmental impact To reduce carbon footprint inhotels&resort.

Specific objective

Increased energy conservation, reduced energy consumption and Green House Gas(GHG) emissions through extensive use of green technologies and sustained tourist demand for eco-friendly hotels and resorts.

Main Activities
Review of literature

1) Reduce: energy analysis, increase energy efficiency.

2) Replace: select/adapt local technologies based on renewable sources. Perform on-site tests of selected solutions, training dissemination workshops.
3) Redesign: implement demonstrative showcase. Establishment of a communication/ information centre. 4) Capacity-building and extension: training and technical assistance for owners, managers and technicians. 5) Strengthen and build up trust on voluntary standards, certification schemes and eco-labeling: information/communication campaigns for tourists, training for tour operators, cooperation with standard setters/certification bodies and boost replication 6) Foster policy innovations: cooperation with related authorities and development of instruments to monitor resorts performance.

Background

Low Carbon Model Town (LCMT) : SAMUI Island Target Setting

Y2005 2006 : Feasibility study for the sustainable development of Samui Island was completely conducted under the ECASEAN Project, co-funded by the European Commissioning through ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). August, 2011 : Samui Island has been nominated by government of Thailand as a candidate for the APEC Low Carbon Model Town Project (LCMT Project) under the supervision of Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), Ministry of Energy October, 2011 : Samui Island has been selected and approved by the APEC Energy Working Group in the 42nd Meeting of the APEC Energy Working Group and Associated Meetings in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei as the selected Low Carbon Town (LCT) development project to conduct the Feasibility Study (F/S) and Policy Review.
