41. A boiler shell of diameter is made of 10 mm thick plates. The joint is a double-riveted butt joint with unequal cover plates 6mm thick as shown in Figure. Determine the strength of the joint per pitch and its efficiency. The permissible stresses are at=150 MPa, pf =250MPa, and vf=80 MPa.

Structural fasteners
42. A bracket shown in Figure ransmits a load of 80 kN at an eccentricity of 30 cm to a column through 10 rivets of 22 mm diameter arranged in two vertical rows 10 cm apart. The pitch of the rivets is 8cm and the load lies in the plane of the rivets. Calculate the maximum stress in the rivets.

Structural fasteners
43. Determine the maximum load in the rivets of the eccentric connection shown in Figure .

Structural fasteners
45. A 16 mm thick plates is joined by double cover butt joint using a 10mm thick cover plate. Permissible tensile strength as per structural steel IS : 226-1975 is 150 MPa. Determine the strength and efficiency of the joint for pitch of 9cm, with 20mm bolts (property of class 8.8 bolt: proof load =147 kN)

WELD: TYPES

Structural fasteners
46. Design a butt weld to connect a 12 mm thick bracket plate to the flange of a column. The bracket is to transmit a load of 100 kN at an eccentricity of 15 cm as shown in Figure

Structural fasteners
47. Determine the size of the fillet weld required to join a bracket plate with flange of a column as shown in Figure.

Structural fasteners
48. An eccentric weld connection is shown in Figure has 6 mm fillet weld. Determine the greatest load P per bracket plate which can be applied on the connection if the shear stress in the weld is not to exceed 108 MPa.

Structural fasteners
49. A circular rod 50 mm in diameter and 200 mm is welded to plate by fillet welding all round the circumference as shown in Figure. The weld size is 15 mm. The section modulus of the weld is 22000mm3. Determine the resultant stress in the weld.

Structural fasteners
50. Design a suitable fillet weld to connect a tie bar 60x8 mm to a 12 mm thick gusset plate as shown in Figure. The permissible stresses in the tie bar and fillet weld are 150 MPa and 108 MPa respectively.
