Telescope Viewing Notes

The best object to view for the first time is the Moon. The best time to observe the Moon is during the partial phases as a full Moon is too bright. Five of the planets are easy targets for your telescope. Jupiter Saturn Mars Venus Mercury Do not setup your telescope inside a room and observe through an open or closed window. Images viewed in such a manner may appear blurred or distorted due to temperature differences between the inside and outside air. Allow your telescope an opportunity to reach the outside temperature before starting an observing session.

Telescope Maintenance
Proper care of your telescope will ensure proper function and prevent the need for service. Here are some tips to help you get the maximum life out of your telescope possible.

Replace all lens covers and caps to help keep contaminants off all optical surfaces and parts when the telescope is not in use. Small amounts of dust on optical surfaces are OK and should not be a reason to clean the surface. Reduce cleaning the optical surfaces of your telescope and telescope parts to infrequently as possible. If dust does build up, clean the optical surfaces gently with a can of compressed air and/or a camels hair brush. Avoid touching any mirror surface completely. If the mirrors require cleaning, bring your telescope into a professional telescope service center. The alignment of the optical systems (also known as collimation) is factory set before being shipped. If your telescope has been dropped or received rough shipment, its collimation may need to be checked. To check, look into the focus tube of your telescope with no eyepiece or accessory installed. You should see a reflection of your eye. If the reflection is off-center, then collimation correction is required. Bring your telescope to a service center for repair.
