Math Major
We offer talented, high-achieving students a unique educational experience in a close-knit community, where they not only enjoy exchanging ideas and insights with fellow achievers, but also interact with professors who continually challenge and inspire them. Most incoming Honors College students rank among the top 10 percent of their high school graduating classes and belong to various honor societies. They also enjoy numerous interests and extracurricular activities and are committed to service in their communities. Honors College students pursue a focused, multidisciplinary first-year program, with courses designed to explore the connections between disciplines and taught by a team of the Universitys most eminent faculty. Students spend the majority of their time in small discussion groups (20 students) with faculty, while twice weekly common meetings with fellow first-year Honors College students allow the issues that join these courses to be explored by an expert in the field. After the initial year, Honors College students can earn honors credit in a broad range of courses in all undergraduate degree programs, as they concentrate on their majors and minors. They also have the option to write an honors thesis as seniors. As they strive toward both a bachelors degree and Honors College Graduate designation, Honors College students work with carefully chosen faculty mentors, who answer their questions and provide academic advisement. Honors College offers an optimal living and learning setting for its students. Approximately half of the entering class of Honors College students live in an honors-designated residence hall.

Hofstra 4+4 Combined Bachelors and M.D. Program: B.S.-B.A./M.D. is a highly selective program open only to students who
demonstrate superior high school achievement and academic aptitude, and who apply to Hofstra as first-year, full-time students. Applicants are expected to:
v Demonstrate a minimum of 1350 (Critical Reading and Math sections) on the SAT or 32 on the ACT. v Have a minimum 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale. v Rank in the top 10 percent of their graduating class (if applicable). Students have multiple undergraduate majors to choose from, all of which will satisfy the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine at Hofstra University prerequisite course requirements. Hofstra 4+4 Program: B.S.-B.A./M.D. students work with highly skilled advisement specialists to help determine the best choice of major for their interests and aspirations. Matriculation occurs upon completion of the undergraduate degree, provided the student maintains a minimum 3.6 overall GPA as well as a minimum 3.6 science GPA, while satisfying the premedical curriculum, with a high level of professional conduct, without repeating a course, and with no grade lower than a C. A minimum MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) score of 30, with 9 or better in each section, is also required for matriculation into the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. Admission to the program is very competitive. Selected candidates will be invited to interview with the medical school admission committee. Strong candidates must have a minimum of four years of math (with calculus), four years of English and three years of science (including chemistry and physics). All supplemental application materials must be received by the Office of Undergraduate Admission by February 15. For more information, visit hofstra.edu/4plus4.
Physician Assistant (PA) Studies Program is a dual degree program designed to provide students with the opportunity to earn both
the B.S. and M.S. in five and a half years.
For first-year students, it is possible to proceed directly into the PA Studies Program without applying in the junior year. Admission to this program is open only to first-year students and is highly selective. Applicants must have a combined SAT score of 1230 (or an ACT score of 27) and an overall high school GPA of 3.5 in order to be considered for admission. Direct admission to the B.S./M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies Program is predicated on students completing all undergraduate work in residence while following the pre-professional PA curriculum, achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.3 in course work toward the B.S., and providing documentation of 50-100 hours of health care experience. Students must also meet with a PA Studies Program faculty member once each semester and complete an interview during the junior year. Should a student meet all conditions, a seat will be reserved in the class beginning in his/her senior year. Students who do not meet every condition for the first-year direct entry option may apply to the program via the CASPA process. Such students compete for admission to the program with all others applying through CASPA. For further information, visit hofstra.edu/pap, e-mail PAProgram@hofstra.edu, or call the PA Studies Programs senior assistant at 516-463-4074.
Hofstras dual degree programs allow you to earn both degrees in less time than if each degree was pursued separately.

center for civic engagement
With a strong belief that informed and involved students are more likely to participate in the democratic process, Hofstra University formed the Center for Civic Engagement. The center was founded, in part, so that students understand the necessity of citizen involvement if democracy is to continue to move forward. Among the principles the center stresses are freedom of speech and expression, respect for others, appreciation for diverse persons and viewpoints, the ethics of public issues, personal and group empowerment, social and economic equality, and preservation of the environment. For more information about the center, please visit hofstra.edu/cce.
discovery program
The Hofstra Discovery Program is optional and open to all incoming first-year students. This interactive program is for individuals who want to be engaged in service-learning, adventure and discovery. Students work on service projects in small groups led by upper-class student leaders who facilitate the experiences and serve as resources. Students live together in order to encourage group interaction, programming and discussion. For more information about the program, please visit hofstra.edu/discovery.
study abroad
An international experience benefits students by offering a global outlook that emphasizes the ties among nations and cultures. In addition, it enhances career preparation by teaching valuable cross-cultural and workplace skills that are critical to employers in building their workforce. Study abroad can be fun and educational. Much of the experience comes from meeting the challenges of, and learning to adapt to, a foreign environment. Living and learning in another country fosters patience, develops maturity and self-confidence, and enhances our understanding of todays complex world. A carefully chosen overseas study program can contribute not only to academic and personal growth, but also to career goals. At Hofstra University, we pride ourselves on the diverse selection of study abroad programs available. Whether students choose to study abroad to complement their foreign language course work, experience a different culture, or expand their knowledge of a specific concentration, they can find a program to suit their needs. Hofstra offers various program lengths, from one semester to a full year, or during the January or summer sessions. For more information about study abroad opportunities, please visit hofstra.edu/studyabroad.
