Dalrymple Earns Educators Endorsement

North Dakota Education Association Backs Jack Dalrymple for Governor
BISMARCK, N.D. The North Dakota Education Association (NDEA), which represents roughly 8,500 education employees in the state, proudly gave its endorsement this week to Jack Dalrymple for Governor. NDEA President Dakota Draper said, "NDEA has worked closely with Governor Dalrymple on the Education Commission, and he recognizes the importance of building consensus in order to make a leap forward in education." I am honored to receive the endorsement from NDEA, said Governor Jack Dalrymple. We have worked hard to properly support our public schools here in North Dakota and that work will continue. Quality education starts with making sure that all of our schools have well-trained teachers. Now more than ever it is critical for students to be educated for the opportunities of the future. Governor Jack Dalrymple has been a champion for education throughout his political career. As Lieutenant Governor he became chairman of the Governors Commission on Education Improvement in 2006, which revamped the states K-12 education funding formula to achieve adequate, equitable funding for all North Dakota public schools. That groundbreaking work led to more reforms in the 2009 and 2011 sessions, and earned the Education Commission of the States' (ECS) prestigious Frank Newman Award for Innovation in state education policymaking.

During the 2011 legislative session, as a result of the proposals developed from the Commission, the legislature approved a $102.5 million increase in funding for K-12 education in accordance with the recommendations of Governor Jack Dalrymple and the Commission on Education Improvement. It included: Final achievement of adequacy funding, ensuring that every student across the state has the resources necessary for a quality education. A substantial increase in per-student funding, with at least 70 percent of all new operating dollars dedicated to teacher compensation. Property tax relief for local taxpayers by providing 70% state funding of the cost of education. A continuing appropriation of $2.3 million for mentorship program to select and train experienced teachers who will serve as mentors to first year teachers.

Commitment to education runs in the Dalrymple family as First Lady Betsy Dalrymple was an elementary school teacher and continues promoting early childhood reading by expanding participation in Dolly Partons Imagination Library.
