During the 2011 legislative session, as a result of the proposals developed from the Commission, the legislature approved a $102.5 million increase in funding for K-12 education in accordance with the recommendations of Governor Jack Dalrymple and the Commission on Education Improvement. It included: Final achievement of adequacy funding, ensuring that every student across the state has the resources necessary for a quality education. A substantial increase in per-student funding, with at least 70 percent of all new operating dollars dedicated to teacher compensation. Property tax relief for local taxpayers by providing 70% state funding of the cost of education. A continuing appropriation of $2.3 million for mentorship program to select and train experienced teachers who will serve as mentors to first year teachers.
Commitment to education runs in the Dalrymple family as First Lady Betsy Dalrymple was an elementary school teacher and continues promoting early childhood reading by expanding participation in Dolly Partons Imagination Library.
