Pinsetter Interface 29
Intentionally Blank
The box also routes 28 VAC to power the scanner or pinsensor and allows
them to communicate properly with the LGP. When connected to a Brunswick
“GS” Series pinsetter, the box adapts the communication from the Gamesetter
or Consolidated Low Voltage Box. so it can be understood by the LGP. With
installations that include BowlerTrack, the Pinsetter Interface Box connects
the BowlerTrack PCB to the LGP.
Two interface boxes are currently available. The first is used for non-GS-
Series pinsetters and in earlier GS-Series pinsetter installations. The second is
used for later GS-Series pinsetter installations.
Pinsetter Interface 1
The function of the components in the Pinsetter Interface Box are:
(1) Diagnostics LED - This light flashes to indicate the operation condition
and setup of the Pinsetter Controller PCB. In older units, this LED is
located on the Pinsetter Controller PCB. On newer interface boxes for
“GS” Series pinsetters, this LED is removed.
(3) Mechanic Override Switch - This switch allows the user to turn the
pinsetter on and off manually in the event of a failure in the system or
the Pinsetter Interface Box. When set to the “scorer control” position,
the LGP will control the on/off operation of each pinsetter. When set to
the “mechanic override” position, both pinsetters will turn on. On newer
interface boxes for “GS” Series pinsetters, this switch has been
removed.
2 Pinsetter Interface
Internal Pinsetter Interface Box (Non-GS and Earlier GS Series Pinsetter Installations)
Internally, the Pinsetter Interface Box consists of one main circuit board called
the Pinsetter Controller PCB and a main power transformer. When the box is
connected to a Brunswick “GS” Series pinsetter or the BowlerTrack option is
installed, an additional board called the Adaptor PCB is added to the box.
Refer to the figure titled Internal Pinsetter Interface Box.
(1) Adaptor PCB - This board adapts the communication from the
Gamesetter of a “GS” Series pinsetter or BowlerTrack PCB so it can be
used by the LGP. It is only installed in the Pinsetter Interface Box if a
Brunswick GS-10, GS-92, or GS-96 Pinsetter is being used or if the
BowlerTrack option is installed. For installations after January 2000,
this PCB is located in the BowlerTrack chassis.
(2) Pinsetter Controller PCB - This board is responsible for all of the
functions provided by the interface box.
Pinsetter Interface 3
Pinsetter Controller PCB
The Pinsetter Controller PCB is responsible for all of the functions provided
by the Pinsetter Interface Box. It allows the control of the pinsetter so the LGP
can turn the machine on/off automatically and obtain pinsetter cycle count
information. The board also routes 28 VAC to power the scanner or pinsensor
and allows them to communicate properly with the LGP. Refer to the figure
titled Pinsetter Controller PCB.
(1) Adaptor Data (J6) - Connection for the communication cable to the
optional Adaptor PCB.
(2) Adaptor Power (J7) - Connection for the power cable to the optional
Adaptor PCB.
4 Pinsetter Interface
(3) Configuration Jumpers (JP1, JP2, JP3) - These jumpers are used to
set up the PCB for use with a scanner/pinsensor or a “GS” Series
Pinsetter. All jumpers must be set the same.

(6) Keyswitch (J5) - Not used. If the keyswitch is present, the cable from
the switch should be disconnected.
(7) Left Pinsetter (J10) - Connection to the left pinsetter. The Controller
PCB controls the left pinsetter on/off and cycle count functions from
this connection.
Pinsetter Interface 5
(8) LLAN (Local Local Area Network) In (J4) - Connection for the cable
that allows the PCB to communicate to the LGP. This connection
allows scores and pinsetter information to be sent to the LGP and allows
the LGP to control pinsetter functions.
(9) LLAN Out (J3) - Connection that allows the LLAN to continue to
additional devices if needed. Usually the TV-Only Monitor LLAN
cables attach here. Refer to (16) Termination Jumper (JP4).
(10) Main Power In (J2) - Connection for 28 VAC coming from the
Secondary Console (Laneworx, Powerworx, and Touchworx) or LGP
(Teamworx and Skyworx) Secondary Transformer.
(13) Right Pinsetter (J9) - Connection to the right pinsetter. The Controller
PCB controls the right pinsetter on/off and cycle count functions from
this connection.

Adaptor PCB
The Adaptor PCB adapts the communication used by the Gamesetter of a
“GS” Series Pinsetter and/or the BowlerTrack PCB so it can be understood by
the LGP. This board is only installed in the Pinsetter Interface Box for earlier
installations with Brunswick “GS” Series Pinsetter or the BowlerTrack system
is being used on non-”GS” Series pinsetters. Refer to the figure titled Adaptor

GS Series Pinsetter Controller
The “GS” Series Pinsetter Controller is used exclusively for centers containing
GS-96 and GS-98 Pinsetters that had the scoring system installed between
March 1997 and June 1998. The purpose of this box is to convert the LLAN
(RS-485) information to a format that can be used by the Gamesetter of the GS
machine. Through this communication, pinsetter on/off frame count
monitoring and scoring is accomplished. The box is powered with 28VAC.

(4) J2 TO GAMESETTER (5) J8 JUMPER (6) J7 LLAN OUT
(7) J6 LLAN IN (8) HEARTBEAT LED
The functions of the connections on the “GS” Series Pinsetter Controller are:
(1) 28 VAC Power In (J3) - Input for the voltage originating at the
secondary transformer located in the secondary console or the LGP
chassis.
(2) 28 VAC Power Out (J4) - Output for the voltage going to the step-
down transformer located inside the Interface Box.
Pinsetter Interface 9
(3) 9.5 VAC Power In (J5) - Input for the voltage returning for the step
down transformer. This voltage is then changed to +5 VDC on the
board.
(8) Heartbeat LED - The Heartbeat LED allows the user to monitor the
communication between the board and the Gamesetter Box. The LED
can have the following flash rates. Refer to (4) J2 to Gamesetter.

GS Series Pinsetter Setup
Since the pinholder switches are used to count the pins, the Gamesetter or
Consolidated Low Voltage Box must be programmed for “double detect”
whenever the Adaptor PCB is used. This is done by moving switch No. 1 of
the configuration switch (SW2), located on the Gamesetter I/O PCB or
Consolidated CPU PCB, to the “off” position. Also, switch No. 2 must be
turned to the “on” position so that the communication can be sent from the
pinsetter through the proper connector. (Refer to the Pinsetter Service Manual
for the setting of switch Nos. 3 and 4.) Refer to the figure titled Gamesetter
I/O PCB Switch Settings.

The controls at the top of the Gamesetter or Consolidated Low Voltage Box
must also be set properly in order for the system to score correctly. The
keyswitch must be set to the “normal” position. The comline push button
must be engaged so that the light turns on. Refer to the figure titled
Gamesetter Setup.
