External Pinsetter Interface Box
The main purpose of the Pinsetter Interface Box is to connect a scanner,
pinsensor, or non-Direct Connect GS-Series pinsetter and selected pinsetter
signals to the Lane Group Processor (LGP) of a lane pair. The box provides
control for the pinsetter to allow the LGP to turn the machine on and off
automatically, reset the machine when needed, and obtain pinsetter cycle count
information.

The box also routes 28 VAC to power the scanner or pinsensor and allows
them to communicate properly with the LGP. When connected to a Brunswick
“GS” Series pinsetter, the box adapts the communication from the Gamesetter
or Consolidated Low Voltage Box. so it can be understood by the LGP. With
installations that include BowlerTrack, the Pinsetter Interface Box connects
the BowlerTrack PCB to the LGP.

Two interface boxes are currently available. The first is used for non-GS-
Series pinsetters and in earlier GS-Series pinsetter installations. The second is
used for later GS-Series pinsetter installations.

The Interface Box is typically located on a mounting board attached to the

curtain wall or between a pair of pinsetters. Refer to the figure titled External
Pinsetter Interface Box.

Pinsetter Interface 1
The function of the components in the Pinsetter Interface Box are:

(1) Diagnostics LED - This light flashes to indicate the operation condition
and setup of the Pinsetter Controller PCB. In older units, this LED is
located on the Pinsetter Controller PCB. On newer interface boxes for
“GS” Series pinsetters, this LED is removed.

(2) Keyswitch - The keyswitch is present on some interface boxes. If

present, the switch should be disconnected from the Pinsetter Controller
PCB.

(3) Mechanic Override Switch - This switch allows the user to turn the
pinsetter on and off manually in the event of a failure in the system or
the Pinsetter Interface Box. When set to the “scorer control” position,
the LGP will control the on/off operation of each pinsetter. When set to
the “mechanic override” position, both pinsetters will turn on. On newer
interface boxes for “GS” Series pinsetters, this switch has been
removed.

2 Pinsetter Interface
Internal Pinsetter Interface Box (Non-”GS” and Earlier “GS” Series Pinsetter Installations)
Internally, the Pinsetter Interface Box consists of one main circuit board called
the Pinsetter Controller PCB and a main power transformer. When the box is
connected to a Brunswick “GS” Series pinsetter or the BowlerTrack option is
installed, an additional board called the Adaptor PCB is added to the box.
Refer to the figure titled Internal Pinsetter Interface Box.

Internal Pinsetter Interface Box

The functions of the components in the Pinsetter Interface Box are:

(1) Adaptor PCB - This board adapts the communication from the
Gamesetter of a “GS” Series pinsetter or BowlerTrack PCB so it can be
used by the LGP. It is only installed in the Pinsetter Interface Box if a
Brunswick GS-10, GS-92, or GS-96 Pinsetter is being used or if the
BowlerTrack option is installed. For installations after January 2000,
this PCB is located in the BowlerTrack chassis.

(2) Pinsetter Controller PCB - This board is responsible for all of the
functions provided by the interface box.

(3) Power Transformer - The transformer changes the incoming 28 VAC

received from the Secondard Console (Laneworx, Powerworx,
Touchworx) or LGP chassis (Skyworx and Teamworx) to 9.5 VAC.
This voltage is sthen used by the Pinsetter Controller PC to generate 5
VDC.

Pinsetter Interface 3
Pinsetter Controller PCB
The Pinsetter Controller PCB is responsible for all of the functions provided
by the Pinsetter Interface Box. It allows the control of the pinsetter so the LGP
can turn the machine on/off automatically and obtain pinsetter cycle count
information. The board also routes 28 VAC to power the scanner or pinsensor
and allows them to communicate properly with the LGP. Refer to the figure
titled Pinsetter Controller PCB.

“GS” Series Pinsetter Setup
Since the pinholder switches are used to count the pins, the Gamesetter or
Consolidated Low Voltage Box must be programmed for “double detect”
whenever the Adaptor PCB is used. This is done by moving switch No. 1 of
the configuration switch (SW2), located on the Gamesetter I/O PCB or
Consolidated CPU PCB, to the “off” position. Also, switch No. 2 must be
turned to the “on” position so that the communication can be sent from the
pinsetter through the proper connector. (Refer to the Pinsetter Service Manual
for the setting of switch Nos. 3 and 4.) Refer to the figure titled Gamesetter
I/O PCB Switch Settings.
