Happy Birthday to a Blessed Nation

At the time of our nations birthday, we must remember Psalm 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. We must also remember that If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3) This is all the more important in the light of a statement by President Obama, who casually declared that the United States is not a Christian nation. We certainly have freedom for all religions to practice their faith. However, our foundation is the biblical, Judeo-Christian tradition. The Founding Fathers met in Independence Hall in Philadelphia in 1776 and created a Constitution in the year of our Lord, 1787. Janet and I have stood in that place and have given thanks to the Lord. We remembered how on September 7, 1774, our Founding Fathers had a lengthy prayer meeting, led by Rev. Jacob Duche, who read from Psalm 35. They were greatly encouraged to humble their souls (35:13), to cry out to God against increasing British pressure (35:1), and to trust the Lord. Our leaders would do well to fervently pray in these desperate days. Unfortunately, verse 24, to be judged according to our righteousness would find us as a nation desperately lacking. We dont always act, vote, or think like a Christian nation. Even as they were reading and praying through Psalm 35, some of the delegates from Massachusetts knew that British troops were attacking their homes and farms. The great John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail: It seemed as if Heaven had ordained that Psalm to be read on that morning. Our nations birth certificate, the Declaration of Independence, mentions God four times as the source of our rights. It argues that the British king was guilty of trying to rob us of something which God had given to us. If the ACLU interpretation of strict so-called separation of church and state (which is really the separation of God and state) were correct, then the Declaration would be unconstitutional. Children would not be allowed to even read it in school. None of the Framers of our Constitution believed that a governmental connection to religion was evil, but they were opposed to an established church as a state religion as a threat to freedom of religion. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity for Taking Up Arms, the year before the Declaration of Independence. He was neither an atheist nor an agnostic. In that earlier document, he spoke of a reverence for our great Creator. He then spoke of the mercies of the Supreme and impartial Judge and Ruler of the universe and how we must implore His divine goodness to protect us. In other words, he wasnt a Buddhist, a Muslim, or a Hindu. He even later said, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, words chiseled in stone at the Jefferson Memorial. Our great Creator is indeed holy and just in His judgment of us as a nation. We are unworthy of His blessings, but we dare not be ungrateful. We give God thanks and praise (Psalm 35:18). As President Ronald Regan said, If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.

Educational Homestay Programs

Mission Opportunity - Imagine going to the mission field without the cost of a plane ticket or a hotel, no visas or passports to worry about, and best of all you dont have to leave any of the comforts of home behind. What a wonderful opportunity for us to make friends across cultural lines, to show Gods love to a lost world, and perhaps even effect personal or international futures. Educational Homestay Programs (EHP) is a non-profit division of Education First, which has arranged escorted group travel for over 140,000 international students since 1979. Groups of 17 to 34 students from one country travel to selected cities in the U.S. to live with volunteer host families and learn about American culture first hand. Several students from CHINA are coming to the Naples area July 17-30 and July 31-August 12, 2012 to improve their English language skills and experience American family life. They are under the supervision of EF staff from 8am-5:30pm Monday through Friday, attending English classes in the mornings and participating in a variety of educational activities and field trips in the afternoons. The students are fully insured and bring their own spending money. Were seeking volunteer Host Families to provide a bed, an extra plate at the table, transportation to a convenient bus stop, and a warm, loving environment - opening a door to a lasting friendship and maybe even an eternal one! To host a student, or for more information, please contact Sandra Aviles, EF EHP Program Leader at 239-450-6452 or email SandraAvilesEFNaples@ live.com. You may also check out our website at www.efhomestay.org. Jesus said, I was a stranger and you invited Me in...Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for Me. Matthew 25:35,40
