thenewno2 (as in "the new No. 2," a line borrowed from TV's The Prisoner) is a London/Los Angeles based group led by singer/guitarist Dhani Harrison, Paul Hicks (keyboards/programming), Jonathan Sadoff (keyboards/guitar), Jeremy Faccone (guitar), Nick Fyffe (bass), and Frank Zummo (drums). Since its inception, Harrison has tirelessly expanded thenewno2 as an art collective. Along with designing all its own packaging and artwork, thenewno2 directs its own videos (including the wonderfully trippy Another John Doe, from their 2009 debut You Are Here). In addition, thenewno2 releases their music through H.O.T. Records Ltd., the selfhelmed record label that allows the band to fulfill its ambition of operating wholly independently of the mainstream music industry. July 31st, the band will release their second full-length album, thefearofmissingout. From the moment they first informally congregated at the third and final Real World Recording Week in 1995, it was clear that the group of European and West African musicians who would later answer to the name Afro Celt Sound System would become one of Real Worlds totemic acts who embodied the labels border-less, restrictionfree ways. When originally released in 1996, Sound Magic was a revelation, one that spliced together music from different continents, different traditions, different times, without losing a thing in translation. The Blind Boys of Alabama started singing together way, way back in 1938. A mere 64 years later, the gospel group recorded this phenomenal set for Real World, their second release for the label. This project brings together an extraordinary but little known African musical heritage, a labour of love recording in a makeshift studio in down-town Addis Ababa and then a journey back to Real World to capture for the first time ever in the UK some of Ethiopia's finest performers. This project is the vision of Dub Colossus - Dubulah - aka Nick Page. Composer, guitarist, bass player and programmer Nick started his music career with Michael Riley (Steel Pulse) and in 1990 formed Transglobal Underground with Tim and Hammi, produced-wroteplayed six albums before leaving in 1997 to form Temple of Sound with Neil Sparkes.

Their first set, A Town Called Addis, was released back in 2008 it was hailed as one of the most inventive fusion albums of the year, with its blend of contemporary and traditional Ethiopian styles, jazz and dub reggae. Now comes a lengthy, even more varied and sophisticated album that moves the experiment on - with the Ethiopian contingent playing a greater role in the proceedings. It's still an experimental fusion set, not a straightforward recording of Ethiopian songs, but the successes of the past two years have led to growing trust and confidence in the band.

In glorious songs like Edem Chant (Listen To Us!), The Creole Choir celebrate the history of their Haitian descendents enslaved to the Caribbean from West Africa. The Creole Choir's ten remarkable singers come from Camagey, Cuba's third city, down towards the eastern end of the island. They grew up and studied music in this old colonial town, designated a UNESCO World heritage Site in 2008 for its colonial architecture. They have nurtured music passed down in their families since the early 19th century, gradually adding modern Haitian sounds following their own first visit to a Haitian festival in 1996. An old school bluesman in the tradition of everyone from, say, Howling Wolf and Leadbelly to Blind Willie Johnson, McDonald channels the past into the future through his internationally regarded project, Little Axe. A project that is more than just a band: "Were a collective of different people who, at certain periods, come together to create great work." Founded in the early 1990s, with five acclaimed albums to their credit, Little Axe are redefining the blues for the current generation.

Lama Gyurme is a Buddhist monk from the Kingdom of Bhutan in south Asia. Jean-Philippe Rykiel is a blind French pianist possibly best-known for his collaborations with high-profile African musicians. For his sixth album Gilbert worked with Elton Johns erstwhile producer, Gus Dudgeon, to great effect. In the background, there loomed a complex, stressful and potentially catastrophic court case with his manager / producer Gordon Mills, but despite the professional mayhem, Gilbert had the one constant upon which to rely his music. I was intact musically, that was my survival, he says. I had the ability and the talent. They couldnt touch those. How right he was. The single Whats In A Kiss returned him to the UK Top 20 singles chart and when the album was released in the Autumn of 1980 it deservedly received a favourable critical response. This remastered version also features the non-album b-side Down, Down, Down as a bonus track.

Produced in 1982 by 10ccs Graham Gouldman, Gilberts seventh album is characterised by witty and inventive production and heartfelt songs. The early 1980s was a hectic time for Gilbert OSullivan. The writer, whose songs in the 70s had sometimes expressed a temperate scepticism about marriage, married his long-term girlfriend Aase in a January 1980 ceremony most of his friends and family knew nothing about. In the background was Gilberts on-going legal fight for a promised interest in his songs from former manager Gordon Mills which was heading to the law courts. Recorded against a backdrop of personal upheaval and legal wrangling, Life & Rhymes is one of OSullivans most revealing and intimate statements. This remastered version boasts two nonalbum bonus tracks: Dont Bother At All and In Other Words.
