CALL FOR PAPERS IEEE Transactions on Computers Special Section on Adaptive Hardware and Systems Publication Date: June

2013
IEEE Transactions on Computers seeks original manuscripts for a Special Section on Adaptive Hardware and Systems scheduled to appear in June 2013. Modern computer systems face increasing demands for high performance, programmability and low power, under tight time to deployment and market constraints, often under stringent budget constraints. Because of the conflicting nature of many of these requirements, adaptive systems are being put forward as efficacious and efficient solutions for many applications whereby the same system can be harnessed to meet time-varying requirements and constraints including speed performance, power, and quality of service. In general, adaptiveness is defined as a systems ability to manage its resources effectively and efficiently in order to meet time varying internal or external demands, hence providing flexibility at a relatively lower cost. While it has traditionally been a central demand for applications such as space missions and robotics, it is now a growing demand for many a more mainstream applications such as multi-core processing, mobile communications and mobile computing. The aim of this Special Section of IEEE Transactions on Computers is to present the latest developments in the area of adaptive hardware and systems, be it at the physical, architectural, software or system level. This includes original contributions into novel physical enabling technologies e.g. adaptive circuits and architectures; novel tools and algorithms for adaptive system design e.g. adaptation-aware compilers, adaptive data processing and communications; and novel applications of adaptive hardware and systems e.g. intelligent agent machines. Topics to be covered in this Special Section include, but are not limited to: x Adaptive circuits and configurable IP cores x Embryonic hardware, morphogenesis x Evolvable, reconfigurable and morphable hardware x Built-in tuneable structures and automated tuning x Built-in self-test and self-repair x Learning and evolutionary algorithms for adaptive hardware x Search and optimization algorithms for adaptive hardware x On-chip learning and adaptation x Hardware implementations of optimization engines x Algorithms for exploring design space of adaptive hardware x Adaptive computing, security and cryptography, DSP, communications, and control x Adaptive sensing x Adaptive wired and wireless networks Submitted articles must not have been previously published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere.
