Introduction
Powerpath is EMC Multi pathing Product works with both active active array like DMX/VMAX as well as active passive array like Clariion. Below diagram explains the layer at which Powerpath is present on host.

Other than providing normal failover functionality. EMC Powerpath can balance the load across two HBAs with different load balancing policy. Recommended policy for EMC VMAX and DMX is Symmopt and claropt.

Note: - Load balancing will not work if you have not installed valid license and you can face problem with performance.

Installation Procedure on UNIX

Prerequisite 1) A khadamati ticket number raised by storage team to install software and run emcgrab. 2) A valid Powerpath license. You can locate the license in below specified file \\cbqhome\CBQIT_SHARE\EMCSoftware\Powerpath\pplicense.txt 3) Analysis of EMC grabs from Storage team. EMC grab can be found at below share. \\cbqhome\CBQIT_SHARE\EMCSoftware\EMCGrabs\

Installation on Solaris 1) Copy latest Powerpath installation \\cbqhome\CBQIT_SHARE\EMCSoftware\Powerpath\unix To /tmp on Solaris server. 2) Login as a root and #cd /tmp. Type gunzip <package name> to unzip the installation package. Where <package name> is the package name, as shown in 3) Type tar -xvf <package name> to untar the installation package. 4) where <package name> is the package name, as shown in 5) Type pkgadd d . to install the package. 6) You see one of the following prompts: On SPARC hosts: The following packages are available: 1 EMCpower EMC PowerPath (Sparc) 5.3.x_bxxx Select package(s) you wish to process (or 'all' to Process all packages). (Default: all) [?,??,q]: On x86 hosts: The following packages are available: 1 EMCpower EMC PowerPath (i386) 5.3.x_bxxx Select package(s) you wish to process (or 'all' to Process all packages). (Default: all) [?,??,q]: Type 1 and press Enter.

7) You are prompted for the directory where the PowerPath Program files will be installed: Note: PowerPath installs its files in /basedir/EMCpower; the installation Process creates the EMCpower subdirectory. Make a note of the name And location of the PowerPath base directory for future reference. Enter package base directory (default: /opt): Press Enter to accept the default base directory (/opt), or type the Path to an alternate base directory and press Enter. 8) You will see the following prompt: This package contains scripts which will be executed With super-user permission during the process of Installing this package. Do you want to continue with the installation of <EMCpower> [y, n,?] Enter y and press Enter. 9) The screen displays information about the installation ending With: ------------------------------------------------------* EMCpower Installation: * * Installation is successful. * * Please REBOOT the host to complete the remaining steps * If you have a license key card, register now. * * License registration is NOT required to manage the * Clariion AX series array. -----------------------------------------------------Installation of <EMCpower> was successful. 10) Type q and press Enter.

[n] 12) Type y and press Enter. Output similar to the following appears: Enter the registration key(s) for your product(s), One per line, pressing Enter after each key. After typing all keys, press Enter again. Key (Enter if done): 13) Type the PowerPath registration key and press Enter. You can Also add keys for other technologies, such as PowerPath Migration Enabler or PowerPath Encryption with RSA. If you typed a valid key, output similar to the following appears: 1 key(s) successfully added. Key successfully installed. Key (Enter if done). 16) When you have finished typing keys, press Enter. You will see the Following output if you typed one key: 1 key(s) successfully registered.

Note: Registration process is same as applying license to Powerpath. Better to reboot the host Once installation is finished its mandatory in Solaris 8,9 but not in 10.

Installation on HP-UX
1) Copy latest Powerpath installation \\cbqhome\CBQIT_SHARE\EMCSoftware\Powerpath\unix To /tmp on HP-UX server. 2) Unzip the installation package. For HP-UX 11i v1, type: gunzip /tmp/EMCPower.HPUX.5.1.x.GA.bxxx.tar.gz For HP-UX 11i v2 or 11i v3, type: gunzip /tmp/EMCPower.HPUX.PI.5.1.x.GA.bxxx.tar.gz Where SPx is the service pack number and bxxx represents the Build number for the release. 3) Install the software:: Installing PowerPath 19 I nIf you are performing a fresh installation, include the x ask=true Option, which initiates the license key registration process as Shown in steps 4) To install or upgrade PowerPath on HP-UX 11i v1 swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x mount_all_filesystems=false -s /tmp/EMCPower.HPUX.5.1.x.GA.bxxx.tar EMCpower 5) To install or upgrade PowerPath on HP-UX 11i v2 or 11i v3 swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x mount_all_filesystems=false -s /tmp/EMCPower.HPUX.PI.5.1.x.GA.bxxx.tar EMCpower Where SPx is the service pack number and bxxx represents the Build number for the release. 6) For registration Log in as root. Installation on LINUX 1) Copy latest Powerpath installation \\cbqhome\CBQIT_SHARE\EMCSoftware\Powerpath\unix To /tmp on Linux server. 2) Untar the PowerPath archive. Type: tar -xzf EMCpower.LINUX-5.3.x.xx.xx-<build>.tar.gz 3) Installing PowerPath To install PowerPath software: Log in as root. Install PowerPath. Type: rpm i EMCpower.LINUX-5.3.x.xx.xx-<build>.<package name>.rpm 4) Run emcpreg -install.Output similar to the following appears: =========== EMC PowerPath Registration =========== Do you have a new registration key or keys to enter? [n] Type y. Output similar to the following appears: Enter the registration key(s) for your product(s), one per line, pressing Enter after each key. After typing all keys, press Enter again. Key (Enter if done): 5) Enter the 24-character alphanumeric sequence found on the License Key Card delivered with the PowerPath media kit, and Press Enter. Installing PowerPath 27 Installing PowerPath on a Linux host 6) If you type a valid registration key, output similar to the Following appears: 1 Key(s) successfully added. Key successfully installed: 7) If you enter an invalid registration key, the screen displays an Error message and prompts you to enter a valid key. 8) Press Enter. Output similar to the following appears. 1 key(s) successfully registered. 9) Type /etc/init.d/PowerPath start to start PowerPath. file from location

Post installation procedure

Once SAN devices are presented to host below steps need to executed on Host 1) Login as root. 2) Scan host with their native command devfsadm, ioscan etc 3) Run command powermt config. 4) Execute command powermt set policy=so dev=all for VMax and powermt set policy=co dev=all for clariion 5) Execute command powermt save 6) Execute command powermt display dev=all and provide output to storage team for analysis

Note: - Post installation procedure is applicable for both UNIX and windows server

Installation on windows
1) To install PowerPath with the default interactive prompts. \\cbqhome\CBQIT_SHARE\EMCSoftware\Powerpath\windows 2) Double-click the PowerPath executable file, or, click Start and Select Run. In the Run window, browse to or enter the name of the PowerPath installation program: <drive>:\<PowerPath_pkg_name> 3) Click OK. 4) On the Choose Setup Language screen, select the language for This installation from the list and click OK. Localized versions of the PowerPath installer are available in Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese. 5) Click Install to install Visual C++ 8.0 run-time components. Visual C++ 8.0 is a prerequisite to PowerPath installation. 6) In the setup wizard welcome window, click next. 2 Installing PowerPath 7) On the Clariion AX-series screen, select Yes if the host is Connected exclusively Clariion AX series arrays. Otherwise, Click No. Click Next. 8) Type your name and organization on the Customer Information Screen and click next. Click Next to install PowerPath in the default directory (Recommended). ! CAUTION Do not specify the Windows System directory for your system (Indicated by the %SYSTEMROOT% environment variable). PowerPath will not function correctly if it is installed in this Directory. 9) On the Setup Type dialog box, select the appropriate install type As follows:

10) Typical InstallInstalls PowerPath multipathing for Symmetrix and Clariion arrays; if you are upgrading, Features present in your current configuration are selected and Installed by default. 11) Custom Installallows you to select features for installation. Features include Migration Enabler, Encryption with RSA, and support for Celerra, Invista and third-party arrays. Click the arrow and select one of the following from the Drop-down menu: - This feature will be installed on local hard drive - This feature, and all sub features, will be installed on the local hard drive 12) Complete InstallInstalls all PowerPath features and Components, including Migration Enabler, Encryption with RSA, and components to support EMC and third-party arrays. Optionally, click Space to view the required and available space Needed to install selected features. Click next once you have selected the install type and features. 13. In the Ready to Install the Program dialog box, click Install. If there is no license in the registry, the EMC Licensing Tool Appears. Installation procedures 25 Installing PowerPath When prompted by the EMC Licensing Tool, type your 24-digit registration number in the License Key field, and then Click Add. Note: When upgrading PowerPath, the existing license key is saved and No input is required. To enable Migration Enabler, PowerPath Encryption with RSA, or Additional array support, enter the license key or keys. b. Click OK. 14. In the Install Shield Wizard Completed dialog box, click Finish. 15. In the setup wizard, click Yes to reboot now or No to reboot later. Note: - Windows host need mandatory reboot to detect power path drivers
