Progress reports to be submitted at the end of every semester by masters and PhD candidates. Do not extend the form beyond 5 pages, excluding appendices. Use font size 11pt. Note: The last page must contain only the signed declarations of the student, the Principal Supervisor and Research Group Leader (if applicable), since it has to be scanned and submitted together with the rest of the form as a single PDF and uploaded to the Moodle-based FSTE Admin Portal by the due date.

Start date: 20 02 - 12 End date: 20 02 - 13 Duration of project: 1 year 5. Summary of Progress.1 Research proposal and budget has been approved by the FSTE. Have completed the literature review. Acquired the standard methods that would be used for carrying out the physio-chemical tests on biodiesel. A site visit from where the samples will be collected from was done with the DOE All chemicals have been ordered through IAS. (To refund from budget) Have received hands-on training on the use of FTIR and ICP-OES. Trial runs of FAME analysis has been carried out on B100. 6. Summary of expenditure with respect to agreed budget. Currently only $208.00 has been used for the purchase of a hard drive. Chemicals have been ordered through IAS and hence the budget money will be deposited directly from the research funds as per the quotations. 7. Describe any challenges or difficulties you have identified with your project and explain how you will overcome them. My whole project is based on testing physio-chemical properties of biodiesel and it requires specialised equipments. The major challenge for me is getting all the instruments and the required chemicals on time to finish my bench work. I am working together with the IAS stuff to have all the instruments and chemicals by end of July, 2012. 8. Comments by supervisory team.
