Mounting Instructions for

Push-Fit Fittings, One-Piece 1. Intended use and product description

The Hawle push-fit fittings for PE/PVC pipes are designed for buried pipeline construction in the field of drinking water supply or waste water up to a max. operating pressure of 16 bar. They can be either connected to valves or to pipelines. Due to its initial tension the big-volume O-ring of resilient rubber tightly seals even out-of-round pipes. The plastic pipe is held by the grip ring and, due to the regular distribution of the holding forces, no notch stress is transmitted to the pipe. When the pipe is exposed to tension the grip ring is pulled into the tapered chamber, thus increasing the tensile strength of this connection. The connection is flexible; if required, the fitting can be dismantled by means of extractors (please exchange grip rings after dismantling). For PE/PE-X pipes the fitting is used with an interlocked grip ring and for PVC pipes with a corundum grip ring. (Please specify the kind of pipe on your order.) For pipes with a diameter-to-wall thickness ratio higher than SDR 11, for fittings larger than d 75 and for installation in conduits we recommend the use of support liners! The push-fit fittings are made of GG 25 / GGG 40 (fluidized bed epoxy powder coated), or alternatively of POM. Please observe the applicable standards and codes, the regulations for the prevention of accidents and the regulations of the professional associations. Installation shall be performed by appropriately trained personnel only. Numerous practical examples of corrosion have shown that different materials should rather not be allowed to get in contact (danger of contact corrosion).

2. Installation
1 2 3

Use pipe end without notches or scores on the surface. Cut the pipe straight and chamfer it without burrs (chamfering tool Order No. 598). For pipes with a very slick surface (e.g. PE-X pipes) we recommend roughening the pipe end only in the area of the grip ring normal to the pipe axis!

The pipe and the fitting must be clean and free from lubricants. Mark the inserting length at the pipe. Push on the push-fit fitting completely by twisting and rocking it. Use only clear water or Hawle mounting spray (no grease or soap) for mounting aid!

Check tensile strength and tightness by way of pressure testing.

3. Dismantling: 1 2

Relieve the pipe fitting or pipe in mounting direction: (short jerk) !

Push in extractors (Order No. 601) completely. Pull out tube by twisting it.

4. Exchange of grip ring

If the fitting is used again, exchange the grip ring. Check the O-ring sealing and exchange it, too, if necessary. Deform the grip ring as depicted in the figure and press it into the fitting. Make sure it fits tightly in the direction of pull.

5. Pressure testing Please perform a pressure test after installation applying a max. test pressure of 24 bar. Please observe the code of DVGW for the performance of pressure tests, as well as the relevant safety precautions!
