While passing through a large field. I was stopped Heaven seemed open to my view, and I saw distinctly and clearly that instead of our High Priest coming

out of the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary to this earth on the tenth day of the seventh month, at the end of the 2300 days, He, for the first time, entered on the day into the second apartment of that sanctuary, and that He had a work to perform in the most holy place before coming to the earth RH, June 23, 1921.

The Biblical Basis for the sanctuary doctrine: Between 1849-1905 one finds more than 400 articles in The Present Truth and The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald on the subject of the sanctuary. Three writers emerge as spokesmen for the church on this doctrine: J.N. Andrews / James White / Uriah Smith They authored almost 65 percent of the articles on the sanctuary.

J.N. Andrews
The view that they (SDAs) have to present of the Sanctuary is the great central doctrine of their system; for it inseparably connects all the points of their faith, and presents the subject as one grand whole.
RH, Oct. 18, 1864

Uriah Smith The subject of the sanctuary is one which should specially engage the attention of S.D. Adventists. It is a subject peculiar to this people. Every one of our people should therefore make it a point of first importance to become thoroughly conversant with this subject. RH, Feb. 20, 1883.

James White The present truth (that Christ was now ministering in the Most Holy place) has found Him, to the joy of their (the Advent believers) hearts. We have witnessed the flowing of tears have witnessed the flowing of some such, as the literal Sanctuary in heaven has been pointed out, and the literal Jesus shown to be standing before the mercy seat (that is over the Ark of the Ten Commandments) still pleading His blood for the errors of His people. And we have heard them express great joy that they have found Jesus RH, Feb. 17, 1852

James White
We not only believe in a literal Jesus, who is a Minister of the Sanctuary, but we also believe that the Sanctuary is literal. And more, when John says that he saw one like the Son of man in the midst of the seven candlesticks John had a view of another part of the Sanctuary... He says, The temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple the ARK OF HIS TESTAMENT. Rev. 11:19. This being an event to take place under the sounding of the seventh angel, it could be fulfilled at no other time than at the end of the 2300 days. The Most Holy was then opened for our Great High Priest to enter to make atonement for the cleansing of the Sanctuary RH, June 9, 1851.

Between 1844 -1851 Ellen White had 11 visions focusing on the sanctuary doctrine

The subject of the sanctuary was the key It opened to view a complete system of truth, connected and harmonious.

It is the central pillar that sustains the structure of our position

Letter 126, 1897, p. 4. {4MR 244}

The scripture which above all others had been both the foundation and the central pillar of the advent faith was the declaration: "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Daniel 8:14 {GC 409.1}

Summary:
The sanctuary is the main focus of the Bible. The Pentateuch / feasts / prophets / Psalms / Acts / Hebrews / The Gospel of John / Revelation - all focus on the sanctuary. The sanctuary was focused on by William Miller and then the early pioneers. Ellen White received 11 visions verifying the appropriateness of this priority. The Adventist churches sanctuary doctrine is its unique contribution to theology.

I Would Be Like Jesus

Text - James Rowe Music - Bentley D. Ackley 1912

Earthly pleasures vainly call me; I would be like Jesus; Nothing worldly shall enthrall me; I would be like Jesus. Be like Jesus, this my song, In the home and in the throng; Be like Jesus, all day long! I would be like Jesus.

He has broken every fetter, I would be like Jesus; That my soul may serve Him better, I would be like Jesus. Be like Jesus, this my song, In the home and in the throng; Be like Jesus, all day long! I would be like Jesus.
