FRONT of HOUSE ASSISTANT MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION


Purpose: To support and assist the Front of House Manager ensure prompt, friendly, courteous customer service, accurate cash handling, while meeting department goals for labor expense and cash accountability. Status: Reports to Front of House Manager Supervises Changemakers Pay Level III Responsibilities: I. CASHIER DEPARTMENT A. Ensure excellent customer service provided to all shoppers, through training and coaching of cashiers. B. Ensure accuracy and security of all cash received through front end, by upholding money-handling procedures and giving feedback to cashiers on their drawers. D. Schedule coverage of cashier shifts by regular cashiers and back-up from other departments. Maintain schedule of trades of coverage, find coverage for approved vacation time, when cashiers call in sick. Post schedules two weeks in advance. E. Learn to troubleshoot POS system and work with POS coordinator to ensure prompt correction of pricing and scanning problems. F. Implement and maintain cashier training system. Maintain cashier training manual. G. Ensure cashiers are aware of price changes, specials, and all changes in store policies and procedures affecting cashiering. H. Coordinate tasks and projects for cashiers when there are no customers to check out. I. Assist bookkeeping in collecting on bad checks as needed. J. Ensure adequate level of front-end supplies (register tape, pens, sacks, etc.) at registers. K. Oversee cashiers to ensure front-end, bathrooms and outdoor seating area are maintained in clean, orderly condition during shifts. L. Maintain and update communication channels that are effective and utilized for the front end staff and make sure all new information, policies, etc., that front end staff needs is sent out through these channels in a timely manner. M. Owner services: maintain the owner database, track equity, oversee signup cards, Food For All grants and discount administration. II. MANAGER ON DUTY A. Work regular MOD shifts, (see MOD job description.) PERSONNEL MANAGEMENTfor Changemakers: A. Assist Front of House Manager interview and hire qualified applicants following established policy. B. Implement on-the-job training. C. Conduct performance evaluations for Changemakers as assigned. D. Schedule hours for department staff within budget. E. Participate in meeting planning and execution for department as assigned by Front of House manager. F. Ensure department staff are informed of storewide meetings, store sales goals and policy changes. GENERAL MANAGEMENT A. Perform other tasks assigned by Front of House Manager. B. Attend all Front of House and MOD meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS Supervision experience--hiring, training, evaluating. Experience implementing systems and procedures. Experience serving the public. Ability to handle multiple demands. Calmness under pressure. Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality. Communications skills: good listening, clear instructions. Familiarity with natural foods. Attention to detail, accuracy.
