15 IN KILLEEN, TX. Killeen, TX (October 15, 2011)- On Saturday, October 15, Homes for Our Troops are proud to host Army SFC Charles Armsteads Volunteer Day. The event will take place at 8 am at 174 Owens Court, in Killeen, TX. The new home will provide SFC Charles Armstead and his family the freedom and independence that he bravely defended for us during his time of service for our country. Army SFC Charles Armstead was on his third deployment in 2009 when he suffered serious injuries that included a hemipelvectomy; the loss of his right leg up to his pelvis, one of the rarest of lower extremity amputations. SFC Armstead was shot in the stomach by an Iraqi insurgent which caused internal injuries, shattered his right hip, and also caused extensive nerve and spinal damage. When asked if there was anything he would like to say to those who have made this specially adapted home possible SFC Armstead stated, "I would like to thank everyone for their support. The assistance from Homes for Our Troops will give me back my independence... I will be able to get around my home without assistanceit will be a life-changing experience for both me and my family" Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization that builds specially adapted homes for our severely injured veterans at NO COST to the veterans they serve. We are strongly committed to helping those troops who have selflessly given to our country and returned home with severe injuries in combat since September 11, 2001.
