TOP-LEVEL DOMAINS
A Top-Level Domain (TLD) is the part of the domain name located to the right of the dot (.). The most common TLD in use today is .COM, closely followed by .NET and .ORG. There are several other popular top-level domains, including .BIZ, .INFO, .NAME, .WS and .MOBI. Top-level domains have certain guidelines attached, but are generally available to any registrant, anywhere in the world. Exceptions are restricted TLDs (rTLDs)which include .BIZ and .NAMEthat require the registrant to represent a certain type of entity, or to belong to a certain community. For example, the .NAME TLD is available strictly to individuals. A top-level domain can also be of geographic significance and only available to registrants in the locale defined by the TLD. These are called country-code TLDs (ccTLDs) and include such top-level domains as .US (United States), .EU (Europe), .TV (Tuvalu), .CC (Cocos Islands), .DE (Germany), .JP (Japan), .BE (Belgium), .UK (United Kingdom), .NZ (New Zealand) and .CN (China). Tip: If the .COM you want to register is already taken, you can check to see if its available with an alternate TLD. You may also want to consider registering all or some of the more common TLDs of the same domain name in order to protect your brand, your site or yourself from someone else with your brand or name in mind. To find out which TLDs we currently offer, or for more information on registering domain names, please visit our Web site at www.GoDaddy.com. Visit today and you can get a 1-year, new domain name, transfer or renewal for only $1.99* with each and every new, non-domain product you buyno limit!

Chapter 1 - Domain Name Basics Once you complete registration, how you use your new domain name is up to you. Here are a few of the most common options: Get a personalized email address. An email account can be a great way to put your domain to use, and gives you a personalized address that friends, family and business contacts will easily remember and associate directly with you. Put your Web site on the Internet. If your site design is complete, you will need to acquire a hosting account to upload your site on the Internet. If you have not built your Web site, there are several easy and affordable options for you to quickly put together a professional, quality site (see Chapter 2Building a Web Site). Launch your own blog. Establish your online presence by creating a blog. All Go Daddy domain names come with free, easy-to use blogging tools to let you take advantage of this popular format, without additional software or experience. Forward domain names that are similar to your primary domain name. The more domain names you register, the better. Youll prevent others from registering a similar domain name to yours. What to do with all these names? Forward them to your main domain name! Turn your parked domain into cash! Its easy with CashParking. Whether you have one domain or a growing portfolio, CashParking can turn those domains into a cash generator! Each time someone clicks on advertising that generates revenue on your parked pages, you share in the revenue. Sell a domain name for a profit. Domain names can be a great investment. Visit The Go Daddy Domain Name Aftermarket (www.TDNAM.com) when the time comes to buy, sell or find a previously registered domain name. Wait. Maybe you havent decided what to do with your new domain name. Theres no rush. You can leave it parked with Go Daddy for the length of your registration.

Chapter 1 - Domain Name Basics There is also a professional Transfer Concierge available to assist you personally, 24/7, in the transfer process. Best of all, any time remaining on your existing registration transfers with your domain, plus you receive a FREE one-year extension. Call a Transfer Concierge anytime! 1-480-505-8866 Domain name transfers may only be initiated once acceptance of the transfer agreement is recorded, payment is made, and the administrative contact has responded positively giving permission to transfer the domain name. Your transfer is risk-free. If it fails to go through for any reason at all, Go Daddy will refund your fee, no questions asked. Follow these easy steps to ensure a smooth and timely transfer: Step 1: Purchase a transfer from our Web site by visiting www.GoDaddy.com. Step 2: Advise the administrative contact of your domain that the name is being transferred. Go Daddy will email your administrative contact by the next business day to request transfer approval. Step 3: When this acceptance is received, Go Daddy will send a transfer request to the Registry and then the Registry will email your current registrar. Step 4: Most likely, your current registrar will send your administrative contact an email asking for your approval of the transfer to Go Daddy. Please respond as directed. Step 5: Your current registrar will send an acceptance or rejection notice to the Registry and the Registry will email Go Daddy a notice of the acceptance or rejection. Step 6: Go Daddy will send you an email informing you that the transfer is complete or has failed. After Go Daddy has notified you that the transfer is complete, log in to your account at www.GoDaddy.com/MyAccount and verify the contact information for your domain. Note: You are responsible for updating the administrative contacts email identified in the previous registrars WhoIs database. Tip: Some registrars lock domain names to prevent unauthorized transfers. Your domain name must be unlocked before the transfer can be completed. You can usually unlock your domain name by logging into your account at your current registrar, or by contacting their Customer Service department. Visit this URL to view your domain in the WhoIs database: http://who.GoDaddy.com To retrieve your login information, visit us at https://mya.GoDaddy.com and click the Forgot Your Password? link.

BRAND IDENTITY
Ever heard the story about the Web entrepreneur who built a booming business on his .COM, only to find a competitor making money off his identity by registering the .NET version of the entrepreneurs domain name? Unfortunately, its not just a story. This technique of buying up domains that are similar to existing business domain names, then demanding extraordinary fees to sell them, is called cyber-squatting. Although there are laws to protect those with a legitimate claim to a particular domain name, it can be cheaper to buy the domain name than to sue the cybersquatter. To avoid this, many companies register multiple domain names containing their primary name. So in addition to registering yourpersonaldomainname.COM, they also register yourpersonaldomainname.INFO, yourpersonaldomainname.BIZ, yourpersonaldomainname.MOBI and so on. By taking related domain names out of circulation, they can be sure no one else will be able to infringe on their online brand. And, of course, keep these domain names for their own future use.

ADVERTISING ONLINE
Although search engine optimization can go a long way toward promoting a Web site, the only way to guarantee a high search engine ranking is to join a pay-perclick advertising program. While pay-per-click can be a costly solution, Web visibility is guaranteed for those willing to pay for it. Pay-per-click is usually based on advertiser bidding, where the advertisers bid on the highest ranking for a given search phrase. The highest bidder gains the highest ranking; the second-highest bidder gains the second-highest ranking; and so on. The advertisers are then billed the bid amount each time a visitor clicks to the site via the paid-inclusion providers search engine listing. Although bidding is the most common way to determine the per-click cost, some payper-click providers charge a flat click-through fee. Pay-per click programs are offered by search engines like Google Yahoo and Windows Live Search, all of which , provide listings for a number of leading search engines, directories and Web portals. In search engines, pay-per-click listings generally show up either as Sponsored Listings or as regular search results. In some cases, the listing will mention the perclick cost to the advertiser. Traffic Blazer introduces users to the top paid placement search engines like Google, Yahoo, & Windows Live Search. Joining these programs will add your business to the search results of the Internets top search engines, directories and portals. For more information, visit www.GoDaddy.com/TrafficBlazer.

Known as The Animal Whisperer Colleen Paige found her calling, love and , passion for animals at an early age. At 18, she was faced with eviction and the task of having 24 hours to find a home for Spike, her handsome German Shepherd. Colleen vowed to do whatever she could to prevent this from ever happening again to anyonedog or human. Colleen now spreads her message as an international animal trainer/behaviorist, TV personality and author.
