Urticaria is a skin disorder which is popularly known as Sheeta Pitta in Ayurved a.

Reasons for Urticaria: Intestinal worms, exposure to cold air, repeated bath wit h cold water, psychic reasons are few reasons because of which patients may suff er from Urticaria. This can be treated as a kind of allergy affecting skin. Symptoms of Urticaria: Initially patient will experience below symptoms before g etting reddish patches on the body of the patient. Elevated Thirst Tastelessness Heaviness in the body Redness in the eye. Afterwards there can be itching and pain in particular places in the skin along with vomiting(vomiting may not be there in some cases).This usually occurs in co ld season after a cold attack.In some of the eruptions on the skin, there will b e elevated edges and depression in the center which might indicate towards diges tive disorder. Ayurvedic Treatment of Urticaria:Turmeric(Curcuma longa) which is popularly know n as Haridra in Ayurveda is a very effective medicine for Urticaria condition. Y ou can use it in food items and give it to the patient. This is a mandatory ingr edient for Indian cooking. Turmeric can also be taken with milk,sugar and honey. Ayurvedic medicines like Arogyavardhini Rasa, Suthashekara Rasa, Kamadhugarasa a re recommended by doctors to treat Urticaria. Above medicnes can be taken with h oney. Triphala tablets can be taken at night before going to bed to help a clear bowel . Even it is seen that buuter milk is an excellent home remedy for Urticaria. If patient diet on butter milk alone with out any medicines for 1-3 days Urticaria can be treated. Mustard oil can be used externally on the affected parts. Dite: Patients are advised to avoid any kind of sour, salty and pungent food. Al l kind of bitter vegetables are helpful in treating Urticaria. Plenty of fresh b uttermilk is recommended. Rock salt mixed with mustard oil can be applied on the patient body and take a s un bath for some time. Hot water bath is advised afterwards. Don t expose the pati ent to cold air. Green gram power can be used instead of soap. ========== Causes of Urticaria : (1) Digestive disorders- It may result from digestive diso rders like mechanical irritation in the digestive tract or toxemia. (2) Drugs li ke aspirin, penicillin, quinine. (3) Certain food often cause urticaria in susce ptible individuals. These include strawberries, tomatoes, cucumber, oatmeal, whe at, nuts, fish, eggs, chocolate, cheeze, butter. (4) Bites of bedbugs, wasps, be es, mosquitoes, flies. (5) Emotional excitement. (6) Viral infection. (7) Vaccin es and blood transfusions. (8) Synthetic products such as deodorant, perfume and talcum powder, cosmetic products, animal derivatives, and similar synthetic sub stances may cause Urticaria.

Types of Urticaria : Acute Urticaria : It last for 6 weeks or less. Chronic Urticaria : It last more than 6 weeks. Home remedies for Urticaria : Salt : About 12 grams of salt should be dissolved in water and taken by patient. The throat should be tickled to induce vomiting. This will help in curing erupt ion. Rose water and vinegar : When there is a severe itching on the eruption, abut 35 ml rose water mix with 25 ml of vinegar and applied locally to the affected are a. This will give immediate relief. Mint : 7 gm of mint and 25 gm of brown sugar should be boiled together in about

175 ml of water and drunk. This will relieve the itching. Turmeric : Patient should take 2 tsp of turmeric powder mixed with a cup of wate r daily. Rauwolfia : 1 gm of powdered root can be taken with a cup of water daily. 3 gm of root powder of Arni should be taken with 12 gm of pure ghee twice daily. For local application, prepare a paste from turmeric, seeds of chakramarda and s esame, kooth and massage over the affected portions. Once or twice a day. Application of calamine lotion is workable up to certain extend in Urticaria. Take a tub, filled 1/2 with luke warm water and add 1/2 cup of cornstarch with 1 /2 cup of backing soda. A person suffering from urticaria will have to soak the body in to this at least once a day. Use the pulp of Aloe or a cream containing Aloe on the affected area. One can have nattle tea. Add honey or lemon for flavor. Nattle are considered ha ving property to heal urticaria. Other treatment for Urticaria : Warm water enema. Exposure to fresh air and sunlight. Avoid exposure to cold and cold water. Hot epsom salts bath : This bath is prepared by dissolving 1 kg of commercial ep som salts in an ordinary bath of hot water,taken three times a week, at least fo r 10-20 min. Diet for Urticaria : All fruits diet : The patient should take three meals a day of fresh juicy fruit s such as oranges, apples, pineapples, grapes, pears, peaches, papayas. Well balanced food consisting of nuts, seeds, grains, vegetables and fruits. The emphasis should be on fresh fruits and raw vegetables salads. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, all fresh foods, refined food which are difficult to digest. Water and lemon intake : A glass of water containing the juice of half a lemon m ay be taken one hour before each meal and also between meals. Raktmokshan (blood-letting) : Raktmokshan is an Ayurveda method used to draw out a certain amount of toxic blood from the body. This helps in detoxifying the bl ood, thus helping mainly in various chronic skin disease. Often leech is used to suck out the impure blood from the affected area.
