SUBJECT INTRODUCTION
Management Information System has become vital part of the both technology and management in the present world. There are different concepts of MIS. Based on the variety of use MIS is classified into various branches of management. It is the application of Technology into management. This text provides a general overview of Management information Systems and its uses in organization. This text comprises of 15 units as mentioned below: Unit 1: The introduction to MIS, the evolution of MIS and its impact, MIS role characteristics and its functions, classification and relationships, managers view of structure of information system and the software and hardware requirements for the use of MIS. Unit 2: Different types of MIS and its concepts, the different concepts of organization management, the technical implementation issues and the behavioral factors. Unit 3: The fundamentals of strategic management information systems, the driving force information technology in the strategic activities, value chain and IT and how IT influences organization goals. Unit 4: The basic concepts of business engineering process, its importance in MIS, the improvement of the process, the object oriented methodology, the current focus of BPR like data mining and data warehousing. Unit 5: The planning and development of Information system, system analysis, SDLC and system design. Unit 6: Ascertaining the class of information, determining the information requirement, management aspects of quality information, the steps in developing the MIS, the process model for development. Unit 7: MIS at organizational level, strategic and operational level planning and Enterprise resources planning.

Unit 8: The new trends in MIS like, Decision Support System, Artificial intelligence, neural networks, Expert systems, the comparison of DSS and Expert systems and the business applications of these trends. Unit 9: How Managing the E-enterprise, Organisation of Business in an E-enterprise, the components of E-Enterprise like, E-business, E-commerce, E-communication and E-collaboration. Unit 10: the concepts of decision making, the process of decision making, decision analysis, the behavioral concepts in decision making and the relation of MIS and decision making. Unit 11: Philosophy of modeling, DSS as the deterministic system, market research methods, ratio analysis for financial assessment, the different science models and the concepts of knowledge management. Unit 12: Introduction to computer networks, basic terminologies of networks, the intranet and extranet. Unit 13: Evolution of information system functions, CIO and his role and challenges faced by CIO. Unit 14: The concept of DBMS, types of database users, DBMS functions, advantages, disadvantages and the comparison of file system and DBMS and design issues of DBMS. Unit 15: Introduction to security and ethical issues, control issues in management, security hazards and technical solution for privacy protection.
