CHRIST UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF ENGINEERING VII SEMESTER-BTECH 2012-2013 COURSE HANDOUT Date: 18/05/2012 In addition to prescribed syllabus for

all courses appended to the timetable this portion gives further specific details regarding the course. Course No : EC731 Course Title : Digital Communication Faculty : Sreekala K Email : sreekala.k@christuniversity.in 1. Course Description: This course introduces the basic concepts of Digital Communication in baseband and pass band domains and give an exposure to error control coding techniques. It also includes an introduction to spread spectrum modulation schemes. 2. Scope and Objective: Aim of the course is to study pulse modulation and discuss the process of sampling, quantization and coding that are fundamental to the digital transmission of analog signals, and transmission of pulse amplitude modulated signals in their baseband form. Transmission of digitally modulated wave over a band pass channel is also included. It helps to learn error control coding which encompasses techniques for the encoding and decoding of digital data streams for their reliable transmission over noisy channels. 3. Text Book: T1.
