Project Guideline for MCA 6th Sem.

Students of DDE GJU

Distribution of marks : Thesis / Project Viva-Voce Examination including seminar / presentation / Demonstration 100 100

* Marks will be awarded on the basis of Viva-Voce examination conducted in the presence of two examiners. Thesis/Project Report will be submitted in triplicate (Hard Bound in green color) with proper certification by the supervisor concerned who may be a person with five years working experience and must have Master's degree in relevant field or a regular teacher working in Govt/Semi-Govt. Institution/University/Engineering College. Students are advised to come prepared for presentation/demonstration of their Thesis/Project at the time of their final viva-voce examination. Project is an integral and important component in the last semester of MCA 6th semester and passing the MCA Project is mandatory for all students. A students planning for Project Report should consult it thoroughly with Project Guide. There may be the case that students are not able to get some allocated project from Industry / Organizations. Keeping in mind the necessity and importance of the project, the following guidelines are hereby enlisted for all the students:-

Applications Areas and Tools: Platform Used: Microsoft Windows Family, Microsoft Windows Network OS Family, Unix, Linux, Sun Solaris, X-Windows. Old MS-Dos, PC-Dos, DR-Dos regretted. Front End: Developer 2000, Power Builder, Visual C++, Visual Basic, InterDev Languages: C, C++, Sun Java, VB Script, Java Script, ASP, CGI-Perl, Cobol, FORTRAN Back End : Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, Ingress, MS-Access or any RDBMS (dBase, FoxBASE, FoxPro and related packages cant be used for the project). Students are not advised for Projects implemented with Visual Basic as Front End and Microsoft Access as Back End or Applications created in FoxPro. Internet Tools: Students are highly motivated to implement various web tool in their Project belonging to HTML, DHTML, Active-X, Sun Java, VB Script, Java Script, ASP, CGI-Perl, RMI, CORBA, SWING, XML etc.

Selection of Project: Each student will be doing the project independently. There will no group of the student doing a single project at a time. But, its possible that a group of student is doing different modules of the

same project. In such cases, the student is required to do 3-5 modules of the large project. The project could be an industry project where the student can go to the industry and work over there or the student can do the in-house project at study centre of university. The selection of the project can be done in consultation with the faculty of the study centre. Guide for the Project: Each student will be working under a Project Guide for the project to be done. The guide could be the person under whose supervision the student is doing the project in the industry or can be the faculty at the Study Centre under whose guidance the student is doing the project at the Study Centre. Guide should have five years of working experience and Master's Degree in relevant field. Submission of Project: Submission of Project should reach this office atleast one month prior to start of term end examinations. The project report should accompany various supporting documents as described in below paragraphs. There is no need for any synopsis to be submitted for the project chosen. The student can directly start working on the project selected after due permission from Project Guide / Study Centre Coordinator. The student is required to submit three hard copies of the project report hardly bound in GREEN color. Student is also required to submit two softcopies on CD or Floppy (full source code in working condition). Along with this, student should also keep the soft copy of the project and the project report ready for the viva-voce and presentation if required by the Examiner. Formatting of Project: The whole project report should be nicely composed and presented. Please refer to marks distribution at top. Students should use only A4 / Letter (8.27 x 11.69 inches) size paper only. Students should leave at-least 3.00 mm margin from all edges of paper. The project report should be nicely typed in good word processor and should avoid spellings and grammatical mistakes. Students should use one side of paper for printing. The project should be Hardbound in Green Color. Double spacing should be preferred. Alongwith the project report contents and source code, students are required to submit following documents bound in beginning of Project Report. Cover Page - Attractive and appealing cover page containing the Project Title, program details, Student & Guide details, date of submission etc. Letter of Authentication - To be submitted by students declaring that the Project Report is the original work of student and no reward had been attained for same project ever before. Students are advised not to COPY the project report from other students. Authorization from Organization / Study Centre where such Project have been implemented With certificate showing the student name, project name with future recommendations of organization if any. Certificate from Project Guide - Certificate from the Project Guide certifying the project work done under his/her guidance alongwith course, student, project details complete in all respects. Guide's Bio-Data - Detailed Bio-Data of Guide must accompany the Project Report. The Bio-Data should be properly typed and duly signed by the Project Guide. Bio-Data should contain detailed academic qualification and experience of Guide.

Particulars of Student - Project Report's first page should contain the details pertaining to course, project title, student information alongwith enrollment number, father's name, address, telephone, e-mail (if have), guide information, date of submission etc.

Draft of Project Report The size of the project report can be approximately 150-200 pages, which include the following details: Core Project Report : (a) Title of the project (b) Introduction (c) Certificate from the Study Centre (d) Certificate from Organization (if its live project) (e) Contents (f) Acknowledgment (g) Student Profile (h) Bio-data of the project guide (i) Platform used (j) Front & Back end used (k) Project Analysis (l) Feasibility study & cost-benefit analysis (m) Project Design (n) Table structure (o) DFDs, Data Dictionary, Pert Chart etc. (p) Coding (q) Form Design (r) Testing mechanisms used (s) Implementation mechanisms (t) Future scope of the project (u) Bibliography Appendices: Software Requirement Specifications Source Code User Manual In along with it, if the student feels to add on any other topics as per the demand of the project or want to include the functionalities as per the SDLC or the Software Engineering model used, that can be done and included in the Project Report. The project report must include all the components as per the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle). It is highly recommended to follow the approaches of Software Engineering methodology. Design documents should be reviewed properly. Testing should have been taken at various levels followed by acceptance test based on SRS and user manual. Students are advised to implant and present the alternative methods and techniques reviewed during the Project phases. Project should not be close copy or resemblance of commercial / freely available software from Internet or market. Students should avoid concept introduction of various SE / SAD terminologies.
