MEMBERSHIP CERTIFICATION PROCESS 1. Coverage: This pertains to nurse practitioners interested to go into the specialty of nephrology nursing. 1.1. Membership: There are 2 types of membership in RENAP. 1.1.1. Active Membership must be actively engaged in Nephrology Nursing with full voting powers in the organization. 1.1.1.1. The following requirement shall be complied with to be an active member: 1.1.1.1.1. Certificate of Employment in a Nephrology Nursing Unit or facility 1.1.1.1.2. Certificate of Training in Nephrology Nursing (minimum of 6 weeks training program) 1.1.1.1.3. Current PNA Membership 1.1.1.1.4. Current IV Therapy Certification 1.1.1.1.5. Passing Mark in the RENAP Certifying Examination 1.1.2. Associate Membership Any interested nurse practitioner / nursing student who is not yet into the specialty but has plans of getting into it and has no voting powers in the organization. 1.1.2.1. Documentary Requirements 1.1.2.1.1. Current PNA membership (registered nurses only) 1.1.2.1.2. Certificate of Enrollment in a Nursing School / College / University (for nursing students) 1.1.2.1.3. Current IV Therapy Certification 2. Fees 2.1. RENAP Membership (for both Active and Associate Members) 2.2. Membership Certification Examination (for Active Members only) Process 3.1. The individual shall submit all documents required for initial screening by the Membership Committee. 3.2. The individual shall undergo a personal interview by the Board Members to ascertain basic Nephrology Nursing knowledge and skills and subsequently recommended to the Selection and Accreditation Committee. 3.3. The individual shall pay the necessary dues. 3.4. The individual shall take the examination. 3.4.1. The individual must be able to get a 75% mark to pass the examination. 3.4.2. Upon passing the examination, the individual shall be accorded full membership privileges and benefits and certified as renal nurse. 3.4.3. Should the individual fail to pass the examination; applicant will be allowed to retake the examination only after presenting 12 CEUs relevant to Nephrology Practice. 3.4.4. The passing mark for the retake is 80%. 3.5. The individual shall submit additional requirements (research work and CEUs) if considering certification by PRC as Renal Nurse Clinician.

3.5.1. The individuals membership and certification is good for 1 & 3 years respectively and shall be renewed with the following requirements: 3.5.1.1. Membership (Annual) 3.5.1.1.1. Certificate of Attendance to Continuing Education Programs / Updates (at least 20 contact hours / year) 3.5.1.2. Certification (3 years) 3.5.1.2.1. Certificate of Attendance to Continuing Education Programs / Updates (at least 20 contact hours / year) 3.5.1.2.2. Certificate of Employment in a Nephrology Nursing unit / facility 3.5.1.2.3. Postgraduate units 3.5.1.2.4. Participation in any research work (local or internationally published) or any CQI programs where the individual is involved or part of 4. Additional Requirements for PRC Accreditation 4.1.1. Clinician 1 4.1.1.1. SKA demonstrates skill competency & able to plan comprehensive Nursing Care plans (PPCR guidelines) 4.1.1.2. Advanced skill enhancement (Critical Care), Strengthened independent function / practice, Leadership / Management 4.1.1.3. 9-12 Masteral Units 4.1.1.4. 2 years nephrology nursing experience in hospital based or stand alone units 4.1.1.5. Related positions: Charge Nurse, Head Nurse 4.1.2. Clinician 2 4.1.2.1. SKA able to relate / confer / coordinate with physicians & other members of the health team on a specific & appropriate nrsg. Mgt. 4.1.2.2. Introduction to Research (Critical Care), Devt of Clinical Pathway / Practice Guidelines 4.1.2.3. 30 Masteral Units 4.1.2.4. 5 years nephrology nursing experience in hospital based or stand alone units 4.1.2.5. Related postions: Supervisor, Clinical Instructor 4.1.3. Clinical Nurse Specialist 4.1.3.1. SKA able to apply & implement innovations based on experiences / researches / studies in nursing care management 4.1.3.2. Research studies & meta-analysis (utilization), Development of new techniques / approaches 4.1.3.3. Masters Degree in Nursing or any equivalent degree 4.1.3.4. 5-8years nephrology nursing experience in hospital based or stand alone units 4.1.3.5. Related positions: Chief Nurse, Clinical Manager
