PROFILE

 Administers medications by observing the seven rights ( right patient, right drug, right dose, right route, right time, right
documentation and right approach ), and carries out treatment and procedures promptly and accurately such as I.V. insertion,
nebulization, catheterization, NGT insertion. Administering drugs - Oral, sublingual, intravenous, intradermal, subcutaneous,
intramuscular, intra tracheal, intracardiac. Administering drugs and fluids via infusion pumps.

 Documents and reviews all carried out orders.


 Instructs and explains to patients and their relatives preparation for specific procedures and treatments such as NPO, low fat supper,
etc…
 Endorses admitted patients to the floor nurses with accuracy and comprehensiveness for continuity of care.
 Secures consents and assists doctors in minor surgical and diagnostic procedures including emergency deliveries.
 Makes supplies like operating sponge (OS), cotton balls, etc. for use.
 Makes daily reports of all admitted patients and submits it to the night duty supervisor.
 Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the unit in coordination with the housekeepers.
 Sees to it that all equipments, supplies and other items in the unit are in good condition and ready for use at all times.
 Provides for and supervises the administration of medications and treatment ordered by the medical staff to all patients who come
for consultation and admission.
 Sees that the physician’s orders are promptly carried out and properly implemented.
 Utilizes all the opportunities for student nurses and other affiliates through orientations and lectures.
 Motivates personnel to actively participate in all the activities of the nursing service department.
 Carries out administrative procedures in conformity with hospital policies and procedures such as unpaid bills, waivers and other
problems that may arise during shifts.
 Responds immediately to the emergency codes by proceeding at once to the area with the emergency kit

 Care of the patient on ventilator:

-Set the ventilator parameters according to the patient’s respiratory status and constant monitoring of the patient.

• Emergency patient care:

Resuscitating during cardiac and respiratory arrest.


Assisting and performing CPR.

Assisting in endo-tracheal intubation.

• Monitoring fluid-electrolyte balance - Intravenous canalization, administering intravenous fluids, monitoring and maintaining
adequate record of intake and output sending blood samples for investigation and evaluating the lab-values.

• Monitoring blood glucose values - Bedside blood glucose are monitored with use of glucometer.

• Hourly maintaining a bypass chart of chest tube drainage, Ion trope flow rate and concentration, urine output, IV fluids, heart rate,
respiratory rate, right atrial pressure, left atrial pressure, arterial blood pressure, central venous pressure, peripheral temperature, oral
and rectal temperature.

• Care of dangerous drugs and their records

• Doing admission, discharge and transfer of patient.

• Monitoring Glasgow coma scale - The level of consciousness is assessed by using Glasgow coma scale. Pupillary response to light
also monitored changes are daily recorded and reported.
• Meeting nutritional and elimination needs:

Inserting nasogastric tube.


Giving nasogastric feed.

Administration of enema, suppositories.


Urinary catheterization.

Bladder training by periodic clamping and releasing.


Giving urinary antiseptics and bladder wash for catheterized patients.
• Assessing physical, psychological and psychosocial needs of the client. Collection of personal, social, medical and general data by
interviewing formally and informally during various nurse client interactions, observations, review of records, diagnostic tests etc.

• Preparing the patient for various investigations. Such as MRI, Angiography, CT Scan, Doppler studies.
• Sample collection for various investigations like: Hemogram, liver function test, renal function test, blood and urine, cultural and
sensitivity, routine microscopy, urea creatinine levels, serum albumin, cardiac enzyme level, etc.
